Where will those vehicle be sold?I fail to see how preventing vehicles made in Canada from being sold in the US will punish Canada.
And it is clear that under threat of actual cut off "with a smile" over the next few years, the reliance on Canadian electricity will be ended. The real reason why the Ontario PM backed down...not surprising.

Today, United States Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Premier of Ontario Doug Ford had a productive conversation about the economic relationship between the United States and Canada. Secretary Lutnick agreed to officially meet with Premier Ford in Washington on Thursday, March 13 alongside the United States Trade Representative to discuss a renewed USMCA ahead of the April 2 reciprocal tariff deadline. In response, Ontario agreed to suspend its 25 per cent surcharge on exports of electricity to Michigan, New York and Minnesota."
I just watched a bit on the CBC about how all over northern Maine (the part that sticks up into QC) doesn't even receive US power. They're on our power grid. And it is clear that under threat of actual cut off "with a smile" over the next few years, the reliance on Canadian electricity will be ended.
Laughing at a publication .I'm not sure what exactly is funny about the idea of a trade war that negatively impacts both economies and could put thousands of people out of their homes and jobs. People with families and children and lives. There are already farmers who have been severely impacted by this.
Even if Ford did reach out, so what? This isn't an arm-wrestling contest or some game, this is real life. I'm glad you find it all very amusing though.
I think it is safe to say that is going to change.I just watched a bit on the CBC about how all over northern Maine (the part that sticks up into QC) doesn't even receive US power. They're on our power grid.
Propaganda is far reaching.1) We did not appoint a new PM. The current one announced he was stepping down and Mark Carney won a months long leadership race that saw a higher voter turnout than any other in recent history.
2) Mark Carney is not currently the PM
3) WEF reference says all I need to know about you. Good day.
Linked upthread - in response to the "olive branch" (per Ford's statement), there is a pause on the surcharge.IMO, the threatened aluminum tariffs would target Quebec and that's why Ford cancelled.
Quebec sells power too, but they didn't apply the surcharge.
IMO, the provinces agreed not to take actions that would threaten another's province's resources.
I wish all the testosterone-fuelled snarling and lashing of tails would stop. <modsnip>
You nailed it!Some of those Executive Orders aren't worth the paper they're written on. It's the first time I've ever seen a POTUS use them to stage drama.
Comparing Trump now to the Trump of 4 years ago, I really wonder about the state of his mental / emotional / cognitive health. His increasingly erratic behavior and rigid, illogical rants seem like some form or stage of dementia or the side effect of some medication, etc. I'm not a health care professional, but something is really wrong with him. I just read this after posting. You said it much better than me. Maybe I should just hush! I think Elon Musk is going to be his worst mistake with JD a close 2nd.We know Elon Musk is on regular ketamine therapy and it has some very serious side effects, some of which he may be displaying.
I think Trump is on some meds that, combined with his cognitive decline, are exposing early stage dementia. He would be truly frightened about this and lashing out at everyone, especially as he made such a point of exposing Biden't decline.
Howard LutnickWho is this US trade representative? I find it hard to believe an unnamed representative will be there to make any decisions.
Who is it?
If you're referring to the meeting with Ford Thursday, he's meeting secretary Lutnick.Who is this US trade representative? I find it hard to believe an unnamed representative will be there to make any decisions.

I think they are asking for the name of the United States Trade Representative who is also said to be planning to attend. If you're referring to the meeting with Ford Thursday, he's meeting secretary Lutnick.
