Some of those Executive Orders aren't worth the paper they're written on. It's the first time I've ever seen a POTUS use them to stage drama.

Comparing Trump now to the Trump of 4 years ago, I really wonder about the state of his mental / emotional / cognitive health. His increasingly erratic behavior and rigid, illogical rants seem like some form or stage of dementia or the side effect of some medication, etc. I'm not a health care professional, but something is really wrong with him. JMO

We know Elon Musk is on regular ketamine therapy and it has some very serious side effects, some of which he may be displaying.

I think Trump is on some meds that, combined with his cognitive decline, are exposing early stage dementia. He would be truly frightened about this and lashing out at everyone, especially as he made such a point of exposing Biden't decline.

Absolutely! He has triggered a recession, caused unemployment, scared people so bad that they're afraid to disagree with him or to even point out the consequences of his actions, attacked allies, threatened invasion of Commonwealth, NATO and other countries, and tanked the NYSE.

All of this is based on his greed for foreign assets - something he could purchase without difficulty.

As far as I'm concerned it's just his unchecked aggression from controlling all levels of government, as well as pandering to Putin. How much of Trump's current rhetoric is borrowed from Putin's book? I believe he's trying to normalize Putin's actions. Just like when Republicans started saying they were going to impeach people, to normalize the fact that Trump was impeached, twice.

President Trump’s doubling of tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum “cannot in any way be justified and are yet another betrayal by the President of the long friendship between Canada and the United States,” Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, wrote on social media. Poilievre urged the Canadian government to retaliate by imposing identical tariffs. The U.S. imports more than three times the amount of steel from Canada than it exports there.
Update from Ian Austen

This will affect me personally as my husband is a commercial contractor and materials are about to become ridiculously expensive thanks to this Peeing match Trump has started.

I'm curious - what is the purpose of meeting with "business leaders", and what businesses are they? Shouldn't he be meeting with his government to plan next moves, hear ideas, debate solutions?

In any conflict, commons sense dictates that de-escalation is the best option. Is the USA government interested in the best option, or is the government looking at Canada with greedy eyes and scheming to escalate with the dream of owning Canadians?

Stop sending everything to Canada or we're going to bankrupt you or seize your company assets and put you out of business. Because: 'we are the victims' and this is a war [that he forgets he started]) IMO.

Funny Trump beleves that the USofA should be the only nation in the world to have business' producing items. The only one entitled to have a workforce etc.

But, the facts of the matter are, no one says we have to sell our goods to the USofA. They are not 'entitled' to our business sales. Likewise, they are not 'entitled' to Europe's business sales. Business' produce goods and services and they sell them to customers. Full stop. No one has the 'right' to be that business' customer. Indeed the USofA is not 'entitled' to have all the bussiness' in the world relocate to the USofA as he has called for.

The Donald has clearly stated that "if you want to sell in the USofA, then you must produce in the USofA". What he doesn't understand is that business' will not 'cut their own throats'. If all the business' relocated to the USofA, then the consumers in those other areas would have no jobs - because *workforce* - to procure any of those goods not being made exclusivly in the US.

Why the heck The Donald thinks that business' would willingly cut their throats to serve 400 millon customers in the US at the expense of

Europe's 749 million paying customers,
Canada's 40 million customers, and
AUNZ's combined 33 million customers.

makes zero sense. And that's just those locations.

Together we are strong. Trade with each other instead of the US as apparently, they don't need any of us anyway. United we must stand.

Just wait until US agriculture goes into a steep decline due to the lack of unskilled labor. Those "illegals" who picked your tomatoes or potatoes, or worked in your citrus groves or grain fields.

Does he think young adults in the US are going to go out to the back-breaking work in the cotton fields of Arizona for less than minimum wages?

Does he have to drive all small US restaurants out of business because of the cost of eggs, produce, meat?

Looks like Canadians are using their investments and savings to avoid US investments in the $1.6 Trillion USD Maple 8 Pension fund.

"US President Donald Trump’s back-and-forth tariff threats are galvanizing an “invest in Canada” movement that’s prodding pensions to keep more of their cash at home.

The country’s biggest pensions, known as the Maple Eight, oversee roughly C$2.3 trillion ($1.6 trillion), about a quarter of which is invested in Canada, according to Bloomberg calculations. Many Canadian politicians and business people aim to make that portion grow much larger — putting further pressure on the country’s pension model.

For decades, Canada’s revolutionary pension model has won worldwide acclaim for its independent governance, in-house management and sophisticated staff that can spot investments that will pay off for workers in the long run. The well-heeled executives of its top pension managers have scoured the globe looking for these lucrative private bets and setting an example for other nations."

Canadian tariffs are much more targeted than Trump's. For eg, why should we bother putting tariffs on US steel and aluminum...?

His tariffs are foolish, eg driving up the price Americans pay for aluminum, will just keep it cheaper for cars to continue to be produced in Canada - not only tariff-free metals but also much lower dollar.

In Alaska, it's impossible to find youngish Americans, or older ones for that matter, to work in restaurants, retail stores, any of the seasonal work needed in the state to bridge those months May to September. Not to say these posts are filled by illegals, rather it's Romanians, Hungarians, Taiwanese other countries. There are programs to get these foreigners in for the season, with bed and board included. These restaurant jobs involve very high tips because the food itself is expensive. Kids go home well compensated, come back year after year.

I can just see how other industries are faced with the lack of Americans who want to work in fields or meat processing factories and are forced to hire illegals. So we get to shop at whole foods.

There has always been steep taxes on anything sent to Canada from the United States, VAT. It is too expensive for me to send my cousin a gift that I wrap, cheaper to have it sent directly from Amazon to Canada.

People from Canada are always traveling across the border to shop in the United States. And to also get medical care.

I doubt that this will be as dramatic as everyone seems to think.

If the tariffs are not dramatic, how about the boycotts?

Canada

Sweden

France

Across Northern Europe

Mexico

Whoa. Reality hits.

I was looking at the package of lovely Campari tomatoes that I buy at US Costco weekly. I was thinking I would find out they were grown in Mexico, or maybe the US.

They are grown in hothouses in BC CANADA !!!!

Wow. Norweigan company will not sell fuel to US military vessels.

That's a very serious turn of events there.

It's kind of funny that the Swedes are using a U.S. platform to organize a boycott of U.S. goods. Rather ironic, imo.

A steep decline?

Trump stated they don't need anything from Canada. Meanwhile:

Canadian Potash Critical to the Stability of US Farmers

The disappearance of 85% of the US requirements of an "irreplaceable component", currently provided by Canada, to fertilizers used by US agriculture would do more than adversely affect prices. If one can't make the very fertilizer they require to produce crops, you don't really need any labour at all to come out to pick sparse-growing crops ... or crops that just aren't there. Those fertilizers are even more critical to US farming today because of the extreme drought conditions being experienced in vast, and ever increasing, areas of the US where farming occurs and where water shortages already verge on the edge of 'the great dustbowl' of the 1930s.

Absolutely shameful of Trump. But hey - perhaps get some chickens for the backyard as he suggested. Unreal.

IMO
