I was curious how the polling question was worded, here it is plus a decent graph. Scroll down some in the link, there were several questions unrelated to this murder.

JMO, I think it represented to him corporate greed and possibly that UHC was well on its way to becoming a healthcare monopoly.

I favor the corporate greed theory over the other one. Again, JMO and speculation.
wonder if it was always intended to be left in the backpack or if that was just what happened when he fled

Ain't that the truth. He didn't release the manifesto, and he didn't even call it that, what was it, 2-3 paragraphs? Also, he's never said that he did it because of his back, unless I missed that. And, he used a home made weapon that couldn't shoot 2 bullets in a row.

These other young men with their war weapons kill so many little kids. Yet the official response seems to be "we need more mental health services", not "these school shooters are terrorists"!

School shooters are a totally different group. IMHO. Question remains who is more dangerous (IMHO, the terrorists because their ideas that may be attractive to masses), but school shooters are hated losers. Not so with terrorists. If school shooters show "poor self esteem and hatred of others whom they often see personally", terrorists have "fluctuating self-esteem" and view others as "the faceless mass with the potential to be manipulated." These two groups don't merge. Shooters are egotistical, suicidal, angry and kill others for attention and a name in Wikipedia. Terrorists are not at all egotistical and in principle, are not suicidal, merely ready to die and kill for the idea.

This being said, one can be killed by a shooter, but also spared if he knows the person or is somehow amused. Terrorists might be vegetarians and super nice people, yet they ultimately don't care about you, to them you are not a person but a vehicle for their ideas, and their body count is very different.

I'd compare terrorists with prophets, martyrs or people like Torquemada. The study of "anarchists" that I have read compared them with vegans ("two popular movements".) I think that the authors viewed anarchists primitively but here is an interesting fact, both groups scored high on altruism.

The powers that be will ensure LM is made an example out of with these charges. We can't have the ultra-wealthy concerned about their safety or wellbeing. Only normal, everyday people are allowed to have those fears.

At the end of the day, LM has no one to blame but himself. He decided to take another person's life when that was not his choice to make.

Wow. Last sentence.

NEW: Missing persons report: Nov. 18, missing persons report was filed. San Francisco Police reached out to NYPD and told them Mangione resembled the suspect. NYPD was in the process of vetting the tip, including reaching out to Mangione's mother. Mom told officers about the murder: "it might be something I could see him doing."

Wow, that's huge. Maybe LM wasn't the 'perfect golden child' that has been portrayed. I wonder if he exhibited signs of questionable behavior while growing up?

That is why I call it FakeBook. People post what they want the world to see, which is often the complete opposite of what is really going on.

If LM’s mom has not heard from him in 6 months, yet felt that “this was something he might do”, does that mean that she saw something in him always that could lead to this? Or did she see a change?

It's not UHC who would offer a plea deal- it's the state of New York. I don't see a reason to "make it go away". The state of New York has already gotten the bad publicity because it happened there and he escaped NY for 5 days. They have no obligation to offer him a plea deal, nor to accept on he might offer. Plea deals are usually offered when it's a weak case. I don't think the healthcare industry will be impacted long-term by this one-off whacko, even if there is some public support for him.
If he wanted to be a "sympathetic defendant", he'd have had a much better case if he had actually had United Healthcare and he or a loved one had actually been denied coverage by them. He was able to obtain back surgery from whoever was his healthcare provider.
Whacko or not, I really wish this case is the tipping point that brings down the healthcare ‘industry’.

My guess is that she saw him sliding down hill...at some point before he went incognito.

If she had been a strong influence in his life, and he had more often listened to her wisdom..... and now was fighting her, and then disappears... She saw something coming.

If you have an insurance horror story or want to discuss the general health insurance crises we have a thread in our Jury Room. CLICK HERE

Just a PS on Trish's message.

If you have not followed some of the solved cases and the overall mission of Othram, the partner in this 525 project.... I do encourage people to find out more.
I just think Othram's work is amazing. And I feel it is such a great partnership WS has with them.
Many very smart WSers add much to the conversation!

I am waiting to see what she actually said, in response to what exact question.

Something is off about LE releasing such a damaging report.
Not damaging to him, I don't care about that, but particularly vindictive towards the mother, as though they were punishing her, maybe for not giving them something.
Anyway, just would like to see who said it about her, and what the exact question was.
if this has been explained, could someone tell me where to look?

Is this the whole thing?

"They had a conversation where she didn't indicate that it was her son in the photograph, but she said it might be something that she could see him doing,' NYPD Chief of Police Joseph Kenny said at a news conference on Tuesday."

I concur that the drop of that phrase is interesting and unique.

Upon recognizing the suspect, the police officer called the FBI and provided the bureau with Mangione's name - prompting New York officers working alongside the FBI's task force to call Kathleen.

'They had a conversation where she didn't indicate that it was her son in the photograph, but she said it might be something that she could see him doing,' NYPD Chief of Police Joseph Kenny said at a news conference on Tuesday.

He noted that the conversation happened 'very late' on December 7, and the information was passed on to New York City cops the next morning - but he wasn't arrested until December 9, while he was eating at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Kind of off topic, but it’s interesting that no long term significant other of LM’s has come forward - in fact, I’ve seen people see they matched with him on dating apps, but no one seems to have met up with him. Maybe his back injury was already preventing intimacy and he was using the apps to, in a way, affirm that he’s attractive / dateable? Or maybe he wasn’t interested in dating, just travel and tech. Either way, kind of strange to me for a seemingly smart, handsome, kind guy (at least before December 2024…).

Even if the back injury got worse with time, you’d expect someone to have dated him for a bit. Maybe any significant other or ex is a bit more sympathetic than his other ‘friends’ and don’t want to come forward. It definitely gives Ted Kazynski vibes.

Wowzers!!

I wonder how many potential mass shooters will pick up on the fact that if they take out a lot of old rich white men at once, the general public will give them the attention and adoration they crave?

TrueAnon just released a pretty comprehensive episode on the shooting I enjoyed.

All IMO/MOO
I agree with you but if I dated him not sure that I would want my face plastered everywhere either.

If she did say something that implicated him, in her mind, it would have been closely guarded by LE for a future trial. My suspicion is that she was referring to the monopoly money or the bike riding, or staying in hostels, creating something with the 3 D printer. What that LE guy said is same as the mayor seeking importance that first day by saying they had a name but of course he couldn't release it.

Speaks volumes- imo.

The Baltimore millionaire, however, put a special condition in her will to cut off any heirs who had been charged with “heinous” or “violent” crimes, which could leave Luigi, 26, high and dry for allegedly gunning down Brian Thompson, a father of two.
