Luigi Mangione, the man accused of gunning down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has waived extradition and expects to be returned to New York as soon as Thursday, his attorney said Wednesday.

According to his friend, Luigi was "making lawyer money" coding for TrueCar ... a telling statement because Mangione reportedly stopped working for them months before going to Thailand.

He told our source he had $6 million in the bank, all of it coming from his family. Talking about his family seemed to be a sore subject, according to the friend, so he didn't press Luigi on it.

Summaries of the books mentioned in that article:

1. “The Secret Agent” by Joseph Conrad: This novel explores themes of terrorism, espionage, and political corruption in late 19th-century London. It follows Adolf Verloc, a double agent tasked with orchestrating a bombing to provoke public outrage, which leads to tragic consequences.

2. “Confessions of an Economic Hitman” by John Perkins: This memoir reveals the author’s work as an economic consultant who manipulated developing countries into crippling debt, ensuring political and economic control by the U.S. through unethical practices. It critiques global economic exploitation and imperialism.

if you google images for "Luigi Mangione tee shirts", you will see products that seem to be marketed to young teens with hearts and sayings like, "I can fix him", "But Daddy I love him".

Sad IMO. I might have to forgo doing such a search. :(

And as post #934 above indicates….. since it seems the suspect has about $6 million dollars or thereabouts at his hand, maybe all those supposed efforts to fund his defense could instead be used for the victim and victim’s family of this IMO senseless slaying. MOO

The victim in this particular case doesn't need the money either. Also, the money is earmarked, but most of these groups have clauses that allow the money to go to another defendant in case the specific defendant doesn't need it.

These tee shirts might explain why young people are so supportive of him.

Interesting @Friday Fan ….. that IMO seems even worse. So funds for one purpose could be used cross purpose or for a different initiative? SMH. And any displeasure is not directed at you. MOO

Someone suggested it go to pay for kids who need medical aid and can't afford it or to Anyone who needs it.
100k+ won't go far, by the sounds of it. If you watch Sicko back in 2007, they wanted 60K to reattach the tip of a finger.

But help how? Money won’t bring him back, and he had a hefty salary.

This is exactly what the shooter was standing up against and what most people are against - health insurers need to step up, not Joe Shmoe.

Respectfully, I do not know. And I made no reference to anyone’s salary. Aside from the slaying suspect’s professed wealth.

Sadly IMO the perceived absence of what appears to be compassion or empathy in this case is troubling. Empathy and compassion for a slain CEO within the health care industry. MOO

I agree, It's almost like people think BT was the sole decision-maker. I get the rage at the system, but only one person paid the price for it. That's not change. Frankly, I don't even think there is hope for change if everyone takes a cut, Who's investing? Look at the bigger picture. That UHC conference that was posted for 2023 felt like a big sales pitch.

A LinkedIn page that matches Mangione’s name and photo says he taught AI courses to high schoolers at Stanford’s summer camp in 2019. A spokesperson for Stanford confirmed his employment between May and September of 2019. His most recent employer is listed as Santa Monica-based TrueCar

Use the funds to pay for his life long incarceration … pay his own room & board.

If true, he has the funds to pay for his legal fees.

Wonder if when receiving that money (if true) is when he cut ties with everyone.

Murderablia shouldn't be profitable.

DM talking heads still offering theories that he did not act alone. I figured it would be easy for him to find out conference details and attendees, but was it luck that he was right there in the proper place when Brian Thompson made his way over?

TrueCar and UH have one thing in common here:
Both are currently under shareholder related investigation.

His grandmother died in March 2023, same time Mangione lost his job (June 2023) and embarked on a year of travel. I doubt he personally inherited that amount of money, but maybe he expected it.
