@Uebey

Mangione's lawyer Karen Agnifilo just BLASTED Mayor Eric Adams for "the biggest stage perp walk I have ever seen in my career.""What was the NYC mayor doing at this? ... Frankly, your honor, the mayor should know more than anyone of the presumption of innocence."

Agnifilo brings up the NYC mayor's ongoing federal corruption/bribery case."Frankly, I submit that he was trying to detract from those issues by making a spectacle of Mr. Mangione."

Mangione’s next scheduled court date for his federal case is Jan. 18.

Unfortunately tend to agree with the counsel’s position that the heavily marshaled and publicized ‘perp walk’ tended to make a spectacle of their client. And I also IMO have no need for that sort of publicity.

On the counterpoint though, IIUC and from much cited in this case, wasn’t their client attempting to make a spectacle of the state of the healthcare industry or something along those lines? MOO

He apparently paid $200 a year for a certain ‘tier’ of membership that allowed for these calls. I’ll try to find an approved source that mentions it, but you can go to Gurwinders subscriptions and see the options.

Edited to add- Gurwinder just posted a blog post himself mentioning the tier price: The Riddle of Luigi Mangione

Well, $ 200 a year is inexpensive, but boy, you don’t need to follow Gurwinder to be introduced to stoicism, lol.

This is what I think. LM probably went through a lot of STEM classes and when he started reading “normal” books, it was too much too soon and in too lonely a life. People usually introduce themselves to reading and they can start from forward to backward, or vice versa, but he was just too lonely to process it. He always stayed alone, that is what I see as a problem. Any sober view on the issues discussed would have helped him, even totally opposite.

But isn't the law and it's people meant to be servers of fair and impartial justice, not players in a game of tit for tat on behalf of a private healthcare insurance company :/

I wonder if LM's family is paying the fees for his prison consultant or if LM has the funds to cover these costs. By now he will have certainly used up his $8,000 U.S. funds that he had when he was arrested, and not sure if that money is held by LE as evidence or if he now has access to it.

Several options come to mind:

1. LM has the funds to cover these costs (attorney fees and prison consultant)
2. LM's parents are covering the costs of attorney fees and prison consultant
3. LM's attorney is representing him pro bono or at reduced rate and also covering the costs of prison consultant

I haven't seen in the news whether or not the same prison consultant may be working with Sean Combs, but if he is working with Combs, then perhaps LM's attorney's legal firm (Agnifilo Intrater LLP) has him on retainer.

Certainly Combs can afford it, but LM?

IMO, it’s all what would expect.
LM lawyer complaining about everything, got to earn her paycheck, “fighting hard for her client.”
LM trying to look like just a “boy out of short pants” because you know, he’s “not guilty”

It’s a bit predictable and boring …. until the trial.

The job he was doing with TrueCar pays around $200k a year plus he will have got a pay off package too, not short of money himself

Mix of 1 and 2

He looked super nervous while walking to the court room.
Also, the looks he was giving his attorney. He looked 100 % engaged (aware of cameras).

And the outfits!

After taxes that isn't a lot of money and it seems that he lived the good life in Hawaii and wonder if he saved much of his salary. We don't know if he got a severance package with the layoffs, I know in the public sector it is usually around three months of severance for layoff or just three months notice in some states. But he was in the private sector, so not sure.

Also, he travelled abroad and may have used any savings or severance pay for that trip. Nothing has been reported yet to confirm if he had any significant cash savings or funds, so I still think it is possible that his family are paying for the legal fees, etc. I also doubt that LM would have found his current attorney on his own, so I think his family was involved in researching and interviewing an attorney and selecting one and it had to be done very quickly following his arrest.

In any event, I think at some point we will know. For now, all just speculation on my part.

The Post is already referring to him as Court Jester, “grinning Mangione yuks it up in court”. Yes there are photos of him smiling.

200k is a ridiculous amount of money for what, a few years of experience? It tracks with elite Silicon Valley salaries.

He was by all accounts an up and coming s/w engineer. Looks like he became anti-tech for some reason.

Honestly this wouldn't surprise me :(

Doesn’t this constitute as conflict of interest? If the jury has to be unbiased, I wonder why the same cannot be expected of the judge.

When I saw that, I thought the opposite. One of those friends said he was making "lawyer money". 200k is really nothing for SF, and I think Hawaii is off the charts expensive. (I'm sure someone will correct me if not). If he was paying 2-4k for rent, (have seen both) that's 25k-48k just for a roof & bed.

As a single guy with no kids that sort of money would be decent, can only go by UK media but it was reported here that he was paying around £2500 a month in rent, even if he lived the high life in Hawaii it wouldn’t make massive dent. I have no doubt his family are contributing but he was independently in the Top 1% of earners imho

Can only speak for myself but I earn around 1/3 of that in UK equivalent, like him I am unmarried, rent an apartment in a decent area, I drive a fairly nice car, but also take 3 luxury holidays a year. He is very comfortably off on those earnings he had imho

I like to ponder the mental conflicts LM must be experiencing at this point. The high from committing the murder is long gone. He wrote a document stating his beliefs and why this action supported those beliefs. He was willing to take action based on his passionate beliefs. But then he gets caught and is now in jail and facing trial and potentially years in prison. He has to plead not guilty.

As an intelligent person, how will he reconcile needing to avoid prison against the beliefs he was willing to murder for? I don't know if he would enjoy having his mental health brought into the argument as to why he should not go to prison. It seems the only avenue he has is to attribute all of this (the beliefs, the planning, the murder) to a warped mindset he developed due to physical pain and other factors. In that case, he can't be anyone's hero because he would be essentially denouncing the belief system, attributing it to a disturbed mind.

I wonder what he spends his days thinking about most at this point.

Nothing more to say about LM other than he has his head up high and looks like he thinks he is important.
Ugh.

Ugh is right.

I’m amazed that a seasoned politician and former NYC cop (which the mayor is, for all his flaws) would not recognize that these perp walks are adding to LM’s budding legendary status.

What’s the next picture going to be? Red carpet, tuxedo, maybe some Crown Jewels on loan from King Charles III?

Please, Mayor Adams, enough with giving this guy the status of surrounding him like El Chapo or a Mafia kingpin.

It’s my opinion that LM is feasting on his notoriety and his booming fan club. They are playing into his ego by encircling him with a huge entourage wherever he goes.

He’s not important. He’s a lowlife sleaze like all other murderers.
