Doesn’t this constitute as conflict of interest? If the jury has to be unbiased, I wonder why the same cannot be expected of the judge.

One would like to think that would be the case, however here in this case absolutely nothing would surprise me now. They've really shown their very worst sides imo, I mean look at Jessica Tisch too, conflicts of interest all over the place, but no doubt the judge will simply state "I'll be good" and everyone will be expected to just take it.

I'm not sure if we know if LM was too lonely or always stayed alone at this point. LM seemed to have a large circle of friends to varying degrees, and it's ultimately his own decision to be engaged socially or not.

Here in my part of England we have mates and friends... Mates are people you know, are somewhat comfortable with on a surface level and serve a sort of social need like we can hang out with them and whatnot, but they aren't friends. It very much seems from what we know about LM that he had loads of mates but no friends. He seemingly bounced around mate groups wherever he was; school, college, travelling and on the surface didn't seem short on companionship, though there have been zero reports from what would be classed as actual friends. Like if I suddenly popped up in the news like this, sure you would have mates speak out some, but I know for a fact that my friends would do something to defend me (even if I was guilty) and you would be able to tell the difference between who was a mate and who was a friend. I honestly believe he doesn't have adulthood friends and whatever childhood friends that he may have had are long past. I find it super interesting and it speaks a lot to his psychology. That old saying "in a room full of people yet completely alone" and that's what I believe he was, all alone with way too many thoughts in his head. I hope that as time goes on we learn more about his background on a deeper level as always in every case, there are lessons to be learnt for the future.

His behavior seemed different on the walk into the courtroom, than him sitting next to his attorney while she spoke. Less of the “tic-like” behavior, no lip biting or bobbing once he was in the chair. A lot of blinking in the beginning, but that was it. The walk in may have been reaction to the cameras and the fanfare.

Can only speak for myself but I earn around 1/3 of that in UK equivalent, like him I am unmarried, rent an apartment in a decent area, I drive a fairly nice car, but also take 3 luxury holidays a year. He is very comfortably off on those earnings he had imho

The ACA made it illegal to charge more to a policyholder due to a pre-existing condition. If he had insurance through his job, rather than him being on his parent’s plan until age 26, he could have continued under COBRA when he was terminated, at 102% of the plan costs to the company. If TrueCar had dissolved, it would have been a different story. Then he could have gotten it through “Obamacare” aka ACA. Rates are on a sliding scale based on income. There are a lot of plans to choose from. If he went without any health insurance for more than 63 days, pre-existing conditions can be excluded for a period of time. He’s a smart boy, I imagine he could have done the research on all of that. I’m still skeptical about his back, and if his actions were due to his experience with the health insurance industry, or if it checked a lot of his radical thinking boxes.

One can potentially suppress them when attention is needed. I think Eisenreich, the famous baseball player, was a good example. Anyhow, an article in NBC “can having Tourette’s syndrome make you superior athlete?” is very interesting. Seems that people like Tim Howard, a soccer player, can totally suppress it during the game, when concentration is needed, but later the condition comes back with a vengeance.

If they do abandon him, then some things are more clear, IMHO. How can you call people who expect nothing but a perfect child and drop him when he’s less than that?

Personally I believe that there will be a lot going on that we don't know about and I'm glad of that. I reckon his family will be in a state of shock right now as not only are they dealing with their loved one being apprehended for murder, they're also dealing with the sheer circus that's surrounding it. They're watching their loved one shackled to bits being paraded by 50 armed to the back teeth guards and the mayor of NY spitting out the word terrorist... Not only that, they're watching their beloved family member being thirsted over by millions of people, seeing his face on pictures of Jesus and the like! You can only imagine how scared they are to even answer their phones right now. Take the family members of someone accused of murder and fly it to the moon, because that is what the Mangione's are currently going through.
I don't see their silence and absence in court as a tell that they've "abandoned" him or anything of the sort, I fully believe that they're loving and supporting him in the best way that they can right now and that's behind the curtains.

Someone pointed out the matching jumpers of LM and Mrs Agnifilo earlier and I'll be honest here, I think it's very impactful. I don't see it as a cutesy matchy match, I see it as a unity. It's two days before Christmas and there you have LM and Mrs A in their burgundy jumpers and Mr A at the side with the matching burgundy tie, like a family unit so to speak, again especially at Christmas. That's what I got from it anyway, and before anybody comes at me about BT's family this Christmas, my heart is with his children and I wish them all of the love possible but that doesn't mean that I can't respect a damn good defense lawyer who is showing that she cares about her client and his wellbeing.

As a single guy with no kids that sort of money would be decent, can only go by UK media but it was reported here that he was paying around £2500 a month in rent, even if he lived the high life in Hawaii it wouldn’t make massive dent. I have no doubt his family are contributing but he was independently in the Top 1% of earners imho

I agree that it was a decent salary for a single person, but nowhere near what kind of money he would have to be making to afford an attorney like he has now.

Luigi Mangione gets a lot of sympathy for people because of underlying issue with health insurance. Some see him as a hero, while others see him as a criminal. Some criminals do not attract a lot of vitriol and do not become public enemies, like Mangione. Some criminals get a lot of vitriol and are public enemies. OJ Simpson, Timothy McVeigh, Osama bin Laden, Lori Drew, Casey Anthony, Jerry Sandusky, Rebecca Grossman, Alyssa Shepherd, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, and Jose Ibarra come to mind.
