The accused murderer has been held pretrial at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., since his arrest in December 2024. It is the same facility where Sean "Diddy" Combs has been held since 2024.

Yesterday I was watching a short video of a small city in England.

They also argued that police did not have a warrant to search the backpack, violating the 27-year-old's rights, papers filed in Manhattan federal court on Saturday said.

I believe the police had probable cause and perhaps permission from LM to search his backpack.
Either of those would be more than adequate to search without a warrant.
His defence is going to throw all kinds of mud at the wall to see what sticks.
Giving one side of an argument without the other side is just silly until you’re in court. MOO

@NuttMegg I agree I would not convict on terrorism.
I don't actually think LM had an altruistic reason for this killing. I have suspected from the beginning that LM wanted suicide by cop. I don't think he ever expected to walk away alive. He wanted to be done with his physical and mental pain and was too cowardly to kill himself.
I know that area and what it looks like outside that hotel entrance at that time of day. LOTS of activity and really not an ideal place to shoot someone unless you want to get caught or killed by a cop or a "good" guy with a gun. He is a smart guy so surely he knew that.
So if his escape was disjointed and he kept the gun etc - I sense it was bc he had no real plan for "afterwards". Was any of his "manifesto" written before the event - iirc correctly it was all afterward.
From reading MSM it seems he had alot of dissatisfaction with a lot of things. And alot of isolation pain and rage. Instead of seeking help he lashes out and kills a guy who had really nothing to do with his pain. For profit medical had nothing to do with his botched operation or even his condition that I know of.
Luigi made a choice to have an operation on his spine that does not have a high success rate. He did not he research that? Two degrees in record time from an ivy league school and he does not know his odds going into that?
He was perhaps desperate to try anything and when that made things worse I think he wanted "out".

@Arkay Totally agree I'd follow the facts of the case if on the jury.
The "display " was over the top reprehensible, but that is a totally separate issue.
I believe, Luigi killed a man in cold blood - that's what this trial is about.

Broad jury base. Not everyone is political. They can seat a jury just fine. He's entitled to a jury of his peers, who will take an oath to be impartial, withhold judgment until they've reviewed all and only the admissible evidence and testimony, and render a verdict, following the instructions provided to them by the Court. He'll get that.
If was a man of any kind of honor, he would have used the justice system in the same way it's being fairly given him -- and objected, if he truly cared, to this CEO and all of United HC, by proper channels. Like a civil suit. Let BT and UHC defend and answer for themselves. That is how it's done in a civilized society.
No civility, no valor in shooting a man in the back or at all.

Agree, but sadly LM went looking for a victim who "checked off all the boxes." It was never about United Health Care or Brian Thompson, it could have been anyone and any sector's CEO that checked off all his boxes.

I can recognize Mangione is a killer while at the same time also recognize that this has been made political from the jump before these particular lawyers came on board iirc.
Fair is fair.
Lets start with the ridiculous for theater "perp" walk Eric Adams and his minions orchestrated.
His lawyers are not pulling details or quotes out of thin air. WIthout statements made there would be no reason for his lawyers to make this filing.
Having said that - I think they can seat a jury who can rise above the noise.
