NY - UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson fatally shot in Midtown. #12 *Arrest*

I thought they were talking about Thompson's mother?
The statement posted was confusing because Brian Thompson's mother is the victim.

However, LM's mother can be seen as a victim too. She is the one that made the statement (linked below).

Edited: my statement

State is asking for some reciprocal discovery by Dec 24th

Defense said they will be challenging their certificate of compliance..

Karen Agnifilo raised an alleged statement attributed to Mangione’s mother-specifically, a claim that she had said “that is something she could see him doing,” referring to the murder. Agnifilo argued that this statement has never been corrected on the record and should be removed because it is highly prejudicial and, she said, was never made by the mother.

Agnifilo added that Kathleen Mangione actually stated, “Luigi has not made any suicidal statements and has not been a risk to himself or others,” making it clear that the earlier characterization was the opposite of what she had said.

I am actually rather speechless. If this is actually happened that is...really bad!

The mother of Luigi Mangione reportedly told authorities that she "could see him" being behind the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Defense obviously spoke to Luigi Mangione's mother and discovered this statement actually never happened. I am a little shocked by the lack of alarm here.

Think they ARE referring to Brian Thompson mother.

Using her age of 77, he was 50 when he was assassinated?

Mother of LM won’t be 77.

Court should provide the court dates IMO.

I thought they were talking about Thompson's mother?
Thank you. I deleted my post.

There were references to both mothers (LM's mother regarding her statement about whether she "could see LM doing something like that" and BT's mother regarding something about trial scheduling, I think). I confusedly conflated the two. Apologies!

There is a statement made by Luigi Mangione's defense team. Can anyone please link to it from an approved source? I am not sure how to link it in the forum as per the guidelines.

Edit: Here is a link to a video I am seeing on Twitter with the defense. If this is not allowed, mods, please remove and I will keep looking for a video that is from an accepted source.

I recall her statement from a year ago. It stayed with me because of being such a strange comment to make about your own child.

Luigi Mangione's mother had told detectives before her son's arrest that she could "see him" fatally shooting the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, Brian Thompson.

"They had a conversation where she didn't indicate that it was her son in the photograph, but she said it may be something she can see him doing," Kenny said. "That information was going to be passed along to the detectives the next morning, but fortunately, we apprehended him before we could act on that."

@conlin_lauren

BREAKING statement obtained by @JOHalloranTV of @WJACTV in Altoona, PA. Blair County DA, Pete Weeks:"There appears to be confusion with the media because New York law is different than Pennsylvania law. My office has argued in filed public documents and continues to assert that Altoona Police Officers lawfully arrested Mr. Mangione for crimes he allegedly committed in Pennsylvania in the presence of the officers. Because of his arrest, he and his property were then subject to a legal warrantless search incident to arrest allowed under Pennsylvania law and his property was then subject to an additional lawful inventory search as well."

Karen Agnifilo spoke to the press after the suppression hearings concluded, addressing an incorrect statement attributed to Mangione’s mother that the defense has asked to be removed from the record. She also discussed her inability to question the lead case detective after the state chose not to call him at the last minute (though I believe the judge noted in court that the defense could have called the detective themselves). Judge Carro is expected to issue a decision on May 18.

In defense of the defense, lol, new sources do copy other news stories from time to time, but I dont know.

Posting another source concerning LM's mother's statement.

According to defense as reported by Fox News:
"There is no such statement. It was never made. In fact, what Mrs. Mangione said was that she could never see her son being a risk to himself or others."

News outlets last year reported what LEO claimed Luigi Mangione's mother said. You are correct that news sources will refer to each other, but it appears the source of this claim (that the mother said she could see her son killing Brian Thompson) may have come from LEO. Another possability is that whichever news outlet reported this info first may have made it up.
