This is pretty sick: this is the kind of world we are living in now!!!!
I'm disappointed but not at all surprised that people are finding justification in murder for the so-called greater good.

Ugly. My opinion.

Or maybe for ID purposes at check in. Hotels ask for this, wouldn't a hostel?
That’s what I’m thinking, as well.

I still prefer to wear a Covid mask at the airport and I always have to remove it at the point where you show your ID and the camera takes your picture.

I presume this suspect had an altered ID but with his face on it, and maybe had to remove the mask for what the hostel expected to be accurate identification.

A hostel seems like a pretty smart move, whether he arrived from another country to do this “job” or whether he lives in NY. If he’s lives here he would not have wanted to chance the NYPD tracing him back to his own place.

It’s also one of the more economical ways to stay here for a little while. Air B&B has rules here about not renting for fewer than 30 days.

This guy strikes me as a combination of smart and stupid, but in any case I believe the NYPD is smarter.

If he’s left the country though, once they are certain of his identity I suppose it will go to Interpol?

Investigators are looking into the purchase of a gun that resembles the weapon used in the shooting, according to two officials briefed on the investigation. The purchase was made in Connecticut, the officials said, and investigators are trying to determine whether the buyer of the gun could be the suspect.
UnitedHealthcare CEO Shooting Live Updates: Police Release Photos of Suspect in Killing of Brian Thompson
How do they know this already? Is anyone else surprised at how much LE can know in such a short period of time?

There must be hundreds of cameras alone within the vacinity of the hotel. I'm just stunned at how much is actually known so far.

IF this guy has left the country, imagine the work and time it would take to study surveillance video at the three airports, and who's to know this guy didn't take a bus or train to another city's airport.
Probably has a falsified passport too. The Danish hostel guest said the hostel required passport ID.

But he may also be blended into the NYC population for all we know or Chicago or wherever, who knows.
I wonder if the hostel requires a photo ID to check in. Since the guest interviewed was from another country he used his passport.

Im wondering if the model of the gun was rather uncommon. If a supressor was used, im wondering if that item was purchased with the gun.

The combination of items purchased may have set off a red flag

I suggested a weapon earlier because the one he has looks odd and the way he racked it looked weird.

I think it will be extremely difficult to solve this or actually arrest someone. Considering that United Healthcare denied insurance claims at twice the industry average, causing many to rack up large medical bills or miss out on life-saving or life-improving treatment, there are suspects aplenty. I personally know someone who had to fight for almost a year to get basic postnatal care covered. Not to mention the insider trading BT was allegedly accused of. There are so many people who could have been involved or hired hit men. And many of these people are those could have experienced deaths of loved ones, chronic pain/suffering themselves, or went hugely into debt who now feel they have nothing to live for. As the CEO, BT would be accountable to that and if you were someone who suffered because of him, I’m sure your anger would increase seeing United’s record profits and BT’s huge salary.

Perp seems confident he won’t be caught or doesn’t care if he is (nothing to live for).

No This Could Not Be What He Used. That's Very Hard To Get A Hold Of. They Used That For World War 2 In The British War. It Is Believed That It Might Have Been A Long Suppressed Pistol. Unknown Of What Kind.

Trust me, I'm right there with you. I got torn apart on another site for saying I was pretty disgusted with people celebrating someone else's murder. Even if I loathe a person and everything they stand for, there should be a hard line drawn there.

Maybe NYPD has seen a similar weapons before and they were connected to CT?

idk
LE has a name for this guy (may not be his real name). Maybe they found a record of the gun purchase under the name the shooter used to register at the hostel.

Maybe it's as simple as the CT gun store owner recognized the shooter from photos.

Adams, a former NYPD captain - “In all of my years of law enforcement, I have never seen a silencer before and so that was really something that was shocking to us all

Some people advised in prior thread that there are extra 'measures' for want of a better word to go through in order to obtain a suppressor. Guessing LE may have decided to try and track the origin of the suppressor first rather than just the gun as it would be a smaller pool of evidence to work through.

I'm not convinced it was obtained through trackable means though personally. That said, the shooter seems to have made some very dumb moves so maybe it will turn out to just be another dumb move. JMO.

Accomplice or no accomplice, the gunman had no way of knowing what time the CEO would be coming to the Hilton, so to be on the safe side, the gunman planned to get to the Hilton early, just in case the CEO would opt to arrive at the hotel early. For all the gunman knew, there was a very good chance that the CEO would be arriving at maybe something like 7:45 or 8am, a time when West 54th street would be teeming with workers arriving to work. Was the gunman prepared in his mind to do an assassination in the middle of a very busy street ? That would have been super dangerous for the gunman, as bystanders could get involved in trying to catch him !!! He ended up being super lucky that the CEO ended up showing up early, as the streets were still empty then. If the CEO happened to arrive at a later time, like 8am, the gunman would have put himself into a very difficult assassination plan.

Lots of possibilities on this one. Maybe a hit on healthcare, maybe insider trading connection, maybe something else with a bit of misdirection thrown in. I will wait-it seems like an arrest will come quickly.

Silencers/ supressors are illegal in NY. They appear to be in a gray area in Connecticut

This! Or the weapon was recognized and the gun store owner called it in. JMO

The thing that most people do not understand about insurance coverage through an employer is that it's actually the employer who decides on what coverage to purchase from a health insurance provider. People like to play the blame game with insurance companies when, in fact, it's the employer that ultimately decides the level of coverage they are willing to offer their employees. The insurance companies just provide the level of service they are paid for.

Silencers are only illegal in 8 states...that leaves 42 where you can buy one.
