They often do not disclose before arrest in high profile cases.

I think if they are circulating a picture and asking anyone that knows who he is to contact them, it would lend credence to them not having a name. JMO

He looks like a women? Maybe a ex girlfriend mad at him.

YES. Why people say it jammed is beyond me. This person expected that sort of action from the weapon. Single action is probably what keeps that particular weapon legal in the states where it can be purchased…
The reports from MSM quote the cops saying it jammed. MOO

I don't think they would have traced it to a gun store if that was the case. Apparently they have record of where it was purchased. How else would they have know it was from CT?

They know a gun like that was purchased in CT. They haven't said it was purchased there by the subject.

Still following this case quickly when I have a chance.

So if they traced the gun to a sale in Connecticut, does that mean they found the gun?

Okay, thank you! My mistake, I couldn't read the article posted in The Times.

Have any reporters, LE or media outlets mentioned what, If anything was found on surveillance videos from Lux hotel BT was staying at in the days prior and that morning was recorded.

Seems to me that would be top of LE list for a targeted murder and I haven’t heard anyone mention what they have or haven’t discovered from this.

There has never been a case like this where there has been a "foreign mercenary" involved. That's movie stuff.

I know lots of people around this guy's age that have no social media presence. He might have one though, and we just don't know yet. Those images were only released a few hours ago.
If they don’t have anyone coming forward by end of day today, I think it is safe to say no one in the USA knows him. We should know quite soon. Even if his immediate family and friends don’t want to give him up, someone in the extended circle will recognize him if he is from here.

Someone will recognize him, I'm sure of it.

wait so if the gun is designed to fire a nearly silent shot on its own, why would he need to use a suppressor?
It’s the suppressor … they say it’s veterinary use, no loud bang to scare the other horses at the racetrack …. That’s so can tell customers about all the features & silent firing without seeming like it’s to kill humans. It’s most quiet when it directly against target skin …. Apparently.
It’s truly assassins gun.

Personally, I think he's from the general area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut). We have etched bullet casings, and likely, a vintage gun. This strikes me as some sort of fantasy that he was carrying out. I believe he's from here, and still is here, just not in NY anymore.
I agree it’s likely a fantasy playing out, but I am going to go long here and say I think this may be connected to the ransomware attack earlier this year.

I think this because it smells a little bit like a modern-nerd-vigilante thing (hard to believe, but there are groups like Anonymous etc out there, and they may be evolving). I’m not sure, but the guy seems young and full of bravado, and would possibly want to share this with other similar enthusiasts for vigilante types of what they think of as “justice.”

I can’t make sense of a local staying overnight at a hostel. I also dont think the gun will turn out to be truly vintage/old.

I don’t think he is a foreign mercenary, per se, but someone whose orientation in the world is “global citizen” because of connections through the internet rather than in person.

We’ll see. I know, it’s a little bit of movie stuff… but it’s what I’m toying with at the moment.

Could still be a guy hired from the dark web just to do a job, but that seems less likely.

All MOO

If he is from here, how has he not been identified via social media? Can’t think of a single middle class or upper middle class Gen Z who has no social media presence. My bet is still on a foreign mercenary.
What do you consider a "foreign mercenary"...?

Dzokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Bomber was a US Citizen.

Many "Americans" have been born overseas.

Fake ID used from New Jersey to check into hostel. Again no surprises.
I am betting that the gun purchase will reveal his true identity.

Even if the employee did not catch the fake ID, the "big brain" computer supporting the background checks may have algorithims to catch fake or suspect IDs:

- ID number does not exist, or does not pertain to the issue year for the state.
- ID number just "appeared" with no evidence of previous issuances etc.
- He has "ID", but no social security number in the computer.

I don't think he's very local, as the hostel would be unnecessary. But he needed a base in which to plan this out, and a place in which to launch his attack from. He had to be in the city so he could go out and do this early that morning. That would be necessary even if he was from a different part of New York, or another state altogether.

I think we'll have answers soon.

A foreign mercenary = someone fresh off the boat so to speak. That didn’t grow up here.
