remember not to conflate “professional” and “hitman”…I think we all see this wouldn’t be an experienced professional, however his dumb actions don’t mean he wasn't a hired hitman
Someone on CNN joked earlier "this must have been one of those Craigslist hitmen."

There's really no such thing as a "professional hitman." Not in this day and age in America.

<SBM>

On November 29, he checked out of the hostel for one night and then checked back in on November 30, as CNN previously reported."

He checked out of the hostel for one night.

I wonder why?
It could be something very simple like the hostel was already fully booked on that Friday night.

It's not confirmed. They were investigating that possibility, but we haven't heard anything firm. The longer it goes on, the less likely I think it's going to pan out. This guy came from somewhere south, and he couldn't buy a gun in CT unless he was a resident (other requirements too).

Lots of cameras on MetroNorth and all of their platforms. If he had gone to CT, chances are there would be lots of footage of him.

My theory is he was not the original killer who was suppose to be there. Someone else was hired to be the middle guy but then delegated it to the guy on the video. JMO

No one has any justification to be angry at this victim over some deranged victimization fantasy. Anger that "he" turned down claims? How about some gratitude for all that "he" paid out.

BT was a dad, a son, a brother and a friend. If anyone tried to make him into a symbol of some abstract grievance (not sure I buy that anyway) they are a worthless terrorist.
IMO
I think people are feeling that way because of the allegations that they used an ineffective ai system to handle claims, which, in their minds, is something the ceo would know about.

Once again, he did not deserve to die.

Some sort of ''military reconnaissance''? to check the area, position of CCTV, getaways, potential challenges to complete the mission, etc. Just my own speculation.
Sure, but would all that take 10 days?

No wonder the perp had to stay at a hostel!

To stay in a hotel room in central NYC for that amount of time would cost thousands of dollars, and I'm guessing he didn't have that kind of money.

NYPD former Chief of Dept on CNN now - says from the footage he believes the gunman has fired guns, including that particular gun before so is experienced with them, but his stance/aim doesn’t show that he’s professional. He said he made mistakes e.g the gun fired downwards which gunman didn’t account for and that’s likely why he hit BT’s leg first.

Interesting:

"Police believe the gunman arrived in New York City on November 24, 10 days before the shooting, a law enforcement official told CNN. He arrived at the Port Authority bus terminal in Manhattan and then went to the hostel. After that he appeared to move around the city.

On November 29, he checked out of the hostel for one night and then checked back in on November 30, as CNN previously reported."

He checked out of the hostel for one night.

I wonder why?

And where did he stay then?!

Also, arriving TEN days before the shooting is a crazy amount of time. Even to buy a gun and an e-bike, doesn't take that long.

And how many people can go missing for nearly 2 weeks?! Does the perp not work? Is he a student?

Maybe the hostel has a rule that you can only stay there for 5 nights in a row.

I think lots of people could "go missing" for 2 weeks. Maybe his family/friends are used to him "traveling."

Yeah I've been thinking maybe someone wanted to be rid of this victim for whatever individual reason & went online on hire an incompetent hitman who owns a fancy gun but no gloves ... jmo

Maximum length of stay is 21 days per calendar year.

Pictures show the face of a man police believe killed UnitedHealthcare CEO

Are both of these pictures from the same place/time? Wonder why the first picture doesn't seem to show the backpack on his shoulder?

Could be that he was not so skilled. But, if the bullet markings conjecture is correct, I would think he wanted to cause pain and have the chance to be face to face with this guy before he fired the final shot. If the reason for the killing was anger about denials of claims, he might have wanted the guy to know pain and fear. JMHO.

The motive could be extreme anger at an insurance company decision but the writing on the bullets seems a little too on the nose for me. I won't be surprised if that was done as a diversion to make authorities think that was the motive when it was actually something else.

But this was over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Maybe the perp doesn't have any family who would miss him?

Or he told them a pack of lies about why he'd be away from home for 2 weeks?

Interesting theory. Could be!

So he came to the city on a bus and boarded the bus somewhere south of the city -- where did he get the e-bike? Did he bring it on the bus? Or did he purchase it in NYC or borrow it from someone? When did he purchase the gun in CT and how did he get to the gun store (assuming the suspect was one who purchased the gun)? When and where did he obtain the fake NJ ID?

The fact that he stayed in the hostel for a few days after arriving, then checked out, then check back in to the same hostel the next day is interesting. Where did he spend that night he checked out of the hostel? Why did he end up checking back in? IIRC earlier reports said LE checked out at least one other hostel in the UWS and another property in the West 90s -- did he spend that night in a different hostel in the city? Someone else's apartment? Did he leave the city?

ETA: I think where the suspect went and what he did during that 'missing' night will be key

Maybe he went to CT to buy his gun that day away ... I know there was some talk about the gun maybe being sold in CT but was that settled??

Surely, with all the media publicity and photos, this guy has to be recognized by now. Family, relatives, friends, acquaintances, heck even the corner store where he buys his beers, the bar he hung out at, his former school or place of work etc.
He's not a ghost.
Unless he's not from this country I suppose.
