I still see something Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern in the face, but it just occurred to me that maybe, just maybe, the nose was broken in a street fight or boxing, and he either didn't have the time to fix it, or maybe even opts for the "brutal" look? He likes good things and if I were to guess, he takes good care of himself, so perhaps it is even intentional.

Was gonna say some Latinos also have this look. Not too many do, but sometimes the genes come together and they end up with Mediterranean/ME type features.

Well, I guess I won't be staying in a hotel in Manhattan any time soon.

I was shocked to see how much that hostel costs now. I stayed there around 2003. IIRC it was about $35/night. Very basic accommodations. Not much privacy. Dormitory-style rooms, common areas, and bathrooms. Not a good place to hide out but apparently, he just blended in with the other guests.

it’ll be under $50 a night in January.

It’s just a crazy time of year, rates are ridiculous for everywhere.

Both, the suspect and the victim, were seen on their phones prior to the shooting.
BT’s jacket is a lighter blue than most C-suites use. Very recognizable, especially if you’re alerted to it and the street was scarce with people.

I am sticking with my theory of foreign hitman hired by someone local in the USA who wanted Thompson out of the way.
- Starting point Atlanta - could have arrived at Atlanta airport from abroad
- looks Slavic/Eastern European
- looks and moves like a dancer/fine arts person (more common for males in that culture)
- familiar with dark web and crypto currency. Big hacker community.
- used a world war 2 gun (or replica) that hasn’t been traced so far. Russia was a big part of WW2.
- emotionless when committing the crime so this was not personal to him. He was just doing a job.
- no social media presence
- no one has stepped up so far saying they know him which is surprising if he was raised here.

Hopefully he is still in the US and they apprehend him soon.

Trust me, he doesn't look neither Slavic nor Eastern European. You think "Slavic" because areas where Southern Slavs lived were under the Ottoman Empire, so there is a huge Turkish admixture there, but it is not a Slavic look

. I think he is not a typical Slav because he has pretty dense facial hair growth. Dense and dark. For this reason, I don't think he is Mexican, either (although some parts of Mexico are becoming a huge melting pot.)

- I doubt that anyone would need to bring a gun into US, lol. Why? It is like traveling with own pot to the US.

Now, he might have been raised in one of immigrant communities from the Postsoviet place, but even so, I feel he is probably raised in the US.

It makes almost no sense to import a sole killer from abroad now. Expensive and actually, can be easier traced to the customer. I am not in that area but think that para-casinos human trafficking can have some mafia involvement, but these are usually groups.

As to, "no one stepped", if it was a statement, consider that he has already made it. No need in manifestos with our modern echo chambers. I think he may be affiliated with a group, but the group is not interested in advertising the emergence of a new planned activity. We can guess what they want.

If the plan is terror (not sure yet), then it is not a political protest. Very interesting. It is economical protest. Insurance companies are monopolies. People whose protests don't target ideology, but the way the economy is run have to minimally understand this economy. They are usually younger. I am not even sure if it is anti-capitalist protest. It is the protest against how the monopolies are run, "make them better." "Improve them." He didn't write "free healthcare" on the bullets. He actually was protesting against the denials.

(If it was his plan. Could be perfectly personal, after all.)

Thank you SO much for posting this! I’m constantly telling people exactly what you wrote. They just want to blame the insurance company.
And if it’s a Medicare/Medicaid plan, they have to follow CMS guidelines for coverage. UHC isn’t just making up rules and guidelines willy nilly for what is and isn’t covered

C Suite is the term for the group of corporate "Chief" (C) positions. Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, etc.

I agree regarding the “unknown” CEO. He has such a typical name - Brian Thompson. He looks ordinary. He was staying in a Marriott. His house and his wife’s house are both relatively modest (they are big, but barely qualifying under the “McMansion” category). This is not a flashy, uber wealthy CEO. He’s not even at the top of the corporate pyramid.

I have such a hard time with him being a target for some kind of political message.

I think that whoever is most likely to benefit from his absence is most likely behind it. Could be someone who was concerned about possible criminal charges, could be someone who would be set to inherit something, could be someone who wanted his position.

I’m not really sure, but it just seems to me that the person behind this has some kind of personal motivation, outside of their parent being denied coverage.

If it was a disgruntled customer, I’d expect them to roll up into headquarters and open fire.

If one is looking to make a statement about a company or an industry, going after a CEO is likely the right target. Regardless of how many people knew this man’s name 48 hours ago, they all know not only his name but his insider trading and shady company practices now. That alone is a massive “win” for the shooter (even if it wasn’t his motive).

Providing she had strong enough English fluency to identify accented English. That can be hard if English is not her first language.

For example, I have been told that I speak fluent Spanish (learned fluency). But... I often need more than a passing conversation to be able to identify a particular Spanish accent.

Even then, I can only identify the most distinct national / regional accents when spoken by people with heavy accents. For example, thick Caribbean, Argentinian, "winey" Mexican, "Spanish Spanish" due to vosotros verb conjugations etc).

Other than that, "Spanish is Spanish" to me. An educated Mexican accent sounds identical to me as an educated Columbian accent. Native speakers may well be able to note differences.

I'm thinking that might be a reason he stayed at the hostel (among other reasons as well). Most guests are likely not native English speakers, but any conversations are likely in English as the common language. Like you said, it can be hard to identify accents in a language not your own. (Though someone will probably say it's not hard, so there you go.)

And, he might from USA, or if not, have an American accent.

I am leaning toward someone from overseas, but that opinion is subject to quick change at any moment.

Yet there was a massive $22 million ransomware attack on the company in February, and there’s a pending DOJ investigation for insider trading…

And the shooting happened right outside an investors conference that sold out the NYC Midtown Hilton.

True, but it would've attracted huge attention had he kept his neck scarf up covering his face!
He may have even been denied entry to the hostel.

His back was against the wall with it. Best to lower the scarf briefly and hope the CCTV isn't working.

I am remembering how uncomfortable i felt wearing masks during covid, especially after a couple of hours. Imagine wearing one 24 hours a day for days (i am thinking he slept in the mask so his roommates did not see his face).
