Does anyone recall when the reports of BT’s murder first hit the news? The fake bomb threats were received by the Maple Grove Police Department at 7pm on Wednesday evening by email, threatening two residences. His own and the one his wife lives in. They called it a swatting incident. Wondering whether it could have been folks on the internet cheering on the events, a group tied to murderer, <modsnip>

We can hold two thoughts at once. We can collectively agree that insurance needs to change in this country and at the same time NOT condone assassination as the way to do it.

Be careful what you cheer for (and ask who is leading the cheers).

Whew, finally caught up.

Lots of interesting comments.

Completely agree with this post.

Once we start justifying murder we are on a terrible path, IMO.

I also completely agree that insurance companies have ruined lives with what seem like capricious reasons to deny lifesaving treatment. I went through that years ago when my twin sister had breast cancer when we were 31 (thank God she did survive).

Again though, I don’t know what the answer is except an enormous turnaround in health insurance policy. I see Blue Cross has pulled back from this insane plan of only paying for a partial amount of anesthesia.

But again, IMO, people everywhere cheering for a murderer is closer to us losing our humanity altogether.

He’s not Robin Hood. He’s a killer.

96% of the population is actually rooting for him- I am not surprised people are not lining up for $10K.

Social media posts are 25:1 in favor of what he did. Not endorsing, just reporting.
I don't think that 96% of the population has posted their views about this and I haven't seen a trusted survey. Depending on your searches, you might not be aware of the number of postings that condemn the murder. Many haven't directly challenged the postings of the disgusting "supporters" so it would be hard to tell where the silent majority stands. I know many that are disappointed by the postings but haven't challenged them and have not made separate postings of their opinions.

I respectfully disagree. I don't think his executive assistant would be traveling with him to this. They typically would work out of the home office (in MN).

I also disagree that his schedule would be easy to find OR well publicized. It's possible they might be able to find a meeting agenda to show what time he was speaking that day, but not detailed info if he flew in the night before or morning of or what hotel he was staying in.

If I went online and tried to find the schedules of Fortune 500 CEOs I'm pretty sure I would come up empty handed, or it would be very, very high level, not enough to plan a murder on.

Which leaves us with the option that someone "hacked" into BT or his assistant's devices, which I just think is unlikely. I cannot think of another websleuth murder where that every happened - it sounds like something out a CIA spy movie :).

Which then leads me back to my original theory, someone who knew his personal schedule, was in contact with the shooter - either someone he worked with, socialized with or had his phone on their Life 360 plan. It's just the simplest explanation.
I was an Executive Assistant for many years at a well known company in MN, I recently retired. I traveled routinely every time the Executive did, this is a standard practice. As far as his business schedule, it was in a previous post that his schedule was publicized, I don’t believe the full meeting/travel schedules would be shared for obvious reasons. Many companies have their own corporate jets for travel, but sometimes flying commercial is needed due to plane maintenance etc. Someone in his inner circle could be involved or it could be someone else who had contact with others from the company/venue or someone at the hotel etc. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and sharing them is helpful to look at things differently from another persons perspective.

Looking forward to reading all the details.
I, too, am looking forward to seeing where he was apprehended and what he has to say - if its even him and not an accomplice.

I haven’t been following social media over this, but my understanding from other posts is that a lot of people are obsessing over it and the health insurance industry and the DoJ case and all that stuff. In other words, this is front page news. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.
One of the articles posted recently state that they're overwhelmed with tips coming it. So it may already be sitting there waiting for them.

Personally, I think a southern accent would stand out more in the city than a foreign accent. I wish we could hear from a witness about his voice! FWIW, I don't think he's from the south, even if he arrived in the city "from the south."

jmopinion

totally agree...... I just feel that LE DOES KNOW if there was a foreign accent. I keep thinking they don't want us to know?? I almost hope, we find out the hostel worker says he sounds like any other homegrown Jersey boy....... I would feel better.

the fake DL being from Jersey kind of gives me vibes that he isn't American. A New Jersey resident staying at a hostel in NYC is a little weird and not really common. (i'm sure i'll get a ton of messages of people now saying they've done it or know people who have, lol :p).

Sure there are cities in NJ that are 1-3ish hours away from NYC, but the most populous ones are really not far from NYC at all. Typically, a NJ resident needing to go into NYC for either work or pleasure would make a day trip, or they'd just get a hotel. Very common to know people in NY that you would just stay with as well.

it just strikes me as...weird...and possibly not all that familiar with American culture. if i was a criminal staying in a hostel in NYC with a fake ID, i would choose a state farther away like Georgia, Illinois, etc. People who live on the east coast (even as far away as DC) generally don't utilize hostels when they go to NYC

this article claims that fake IDs are often produced overseas by criminal organizations--

The investigation has been moving along in a smart fashion. Before we were even aware of the separation, my husband and I leaned towards this being a hit from a close family member.

I believe the investor meeting was announced, but the actual location was not. If so, it had to be someone intimately aware of BT's movements and know if he normally hired security.

BT was out and about with not a fear in the world. If he had received any kind of credible threat, you can be assured that he would express his concerns to the company, and there would be no hesitation to hire protection.

My husband and are leaning towards the items found were most likely red herrings.

I never saw the situation between the desk clerk and the assassin as flirting. I saw the guy making a joke about having to show his face to match up with his ID at check-in.

We even thought the words on the bullets left at the scene conveniently pointed towards a disgruntled UHC patient.

I bet that BT has a copy of that book ("Delay Deny Defend") and may have even discussed it with family members. I know that I would have. Plus, the book was written in 2010. At this time, BT and his wife were still together.

I feel certain the police know BT's personal situation and have discovered if he has a girlfriend and what is going on in MN. Unless BT is totally secretive, much can be discovered.

This article mentions that BT kept a low public profile. UnitedHealthcare CEO kept a low public profile. Then he was shot to death in New York

My husband doesn't really talk about any problems, especially work related, with me. So, BT could have kept most to himself (unless he has a girlfriend who knows what is going on).

I of course could be totally wrong with my speculation, but I am glad that the police are focusing in MN now and working to eliminate his inner circle.

"...Start with the inner circle..." New footage of 'assassin' offers hint as cops hunt for CEO's killer

Same impression I had- these may not be pictures of the same person. Early info is often wrong after all.

possibly, but i also think that it could just be camera quality. in the 2 photos from the hostel, the jacket looks black in one of them but almost green-ish in the other. but we know those set of photos is the same person.

Revised timeline and map:

Brian Thompson Killing - Google My Maps

Note: I geolocated the footage of the suspect on the phone which was obtained by CNN and found it was filmed from a west-facing security camera at a parking lot on W 54th Street. Suspect was walking eastbound on the north side of the street towards 6th Avenue.
View attachment 549646View attachment 549648

Photo on left is a screen grab from the CCTV video obtained by CNN; photo on right is from Google Maps

Updated Timeline (as of 10:30am EST, Dec. 6)
Sunday, November 24
- Around 9pm: Suspect arrives at Port Authority Bus Terminal on a Greyhound bus originating in Atlanta around 9pm, although police have yet to determine where exactly he boarded the bus. He then checks in to the HI NYC Hostel at Amsterdam Avenue and 104th Street.

Friday, November 29
- Suspect checks out of the HI NYC Hostel.

Saturday, November 30
- Suspect takes an Uber back to the HI NYC Hostel and rebooks a room using a fake NJ ID.

Monday, December 2
- Brian Thompson arrives in NYC and stays at The Luxury Collection Midtown Hotel on 54th Street.

Wednesday, December 4
- AM: Gunman is seen on surveillance video on the Upper West Side carrying what appears to be a battery for an electric bike

- AM: Suspect checks out of the HI NYC Hostel.

- Around 5am: Suspect is seen on CCTV near the Frederick Douglass Houses, a housing project situated between 100th and 104th streets between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues.

- AM: Suspect is captured on CCTV entering Central Park near the Frederick Douglass Houses.

- 6:15am: Gunman is captured on surveillance camera exiting the 57th Street F train stop

- 6:17am: Gunman purchases a water bottle and two power bars at the Starbucks at 56th Street and 6th Avenue

- 6:19am: Suspect seen on CCTV walking near a deli on 55th Street and is seen stopping by a pile on trash on the sidewalk.

- Around 6:30am: Suspect seen on the phone while walking eastbound on 54th Street past a parking lot (Note: location of video was not provided by CNN, I geolocated it to a parking lot at 137 W. 54th St)

- 6:39am: Gunman arrives on foot outside one of the side entrances on 54th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues

- 6:44am: Thompson is shot on 54th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, outside one of the side entrances to the Hilton

- 6:46am: Police respond to a 911 call reporting that someone had been shot in front of the Hilton located on 6th Avenue between 53rd and 54th streets.

- 6:48am: Officers arrive on scene outside Hilton

- 6:48am: Gunman is seen riding a bike on Center Drive in Central Park

- Before 7am: Suspect is captured on CCTV riding westbound on 84th Street after exiting Central Park. He is no longer wearing the backpack.

- 7:12am: Thompson is pronounced dead at Mount Sinai West, 58th Street and 10th Avenue
Based on the geolocated CCTV footage, which places the suspect walking east on 54th Street at 6:29am, it makes me rethink the killer's walking route prior to the murder. Initially I assumed the suspect walked straight down 6th Avenue from the Starbucks and then turned west onto 54th Street and headed to the side door. However, the deli and parking lot footage makes me believe he either a) looped around the block using 7th Avenue or b) cut over to 54th St using the Ziegfield alley before spending time pacing back and forth on 54th Street.

We know for a fact he exited the 57th Street F train stop at 6:15am, then walks south and stops at Starbucks at 6:17. Then he is caught on CCTV outside a deli walking westbound on 55th Street towards 7th Avenue at 6:19am. 10 minutes later, the suspect is walking eastbound on 54th Street towards 6th Avenue.

Since the 6 1/2 Avenue pedestrian plaza would have been closed at the time (it opens at 8am), the suspect must have walked over to 7th Avenue and then looped around the block. Alternatively, he may have taken the Ziegfield alley and then walked westbound on 54th Street before turning around and heading back east toward 6th Avenue, but IMO the more likely route would be the first one (I suspect if the suspect was caught on camera at the parking garage more than once that would have been shown in the video provided to CNN).

CVS and other health care companies are scrubbing social media of top executive pictures.

IMO - this is a smart move.

BT's death has definitely shed light on the anger many people have bubbling just under the surface in America for health insurance and providers.

lol, always double check your sources, people. fake news is rampant nowadays.

Moo.. probably used in large animal practice. Cattle, horses?
Large animal when you are slaughtering, not euthanizing. A gun called/claimed to be used for "veterinarian" purposes, doesn't mean an actual vet is going to bring that specific gun and shoot the sick or injured animal that needs to be euthanized. No special gun is needed, no vet is needed. MOO

I cannot imagine in this day and age that he could pay cash for an ebike for 2 weeks.. Is that even possible?

And if not, how could he possibly conceal his digital identity?
It certainly is possible, as I mentioned upthread. There are numerous ebike rental establishments in NYC that lease bikes to "deliveristas"(or whomever else might want one) on a weekly, monthly, or longer basis. There are even lease-to-own deals available, and the advertisements for some of these places even specify that no SSN, bank card, or background check is necessary.
It's also quite possible that the suspect acquired the bike on the grey market...

And I obviously don't know for sure but-

He could have been using fake everything for two weeks, including a stolen phone and ID.
