How can one tell apart a random businessman in a suit from an executive?
Could have seen where he left the bottle on video. Maybe it was near the dropped phone and not in a trash can with other water bottles.

Dang so there really hasn’t been much info leaked/reported today. Each day it gets a little bit more interesting.

Now on the 3rd day...NYC overnight 32 degrees....close to freezing cold! He is skinny, ectomorph body type (tall skinny thinker?)...they don't fair well in cold weather.
SBM. Was the perp's attire weather appropriate for that day? What are the chances that he comes from a cold climate?

I hope the suspect is just in hiding and hasn't killed himself. I can't remember the case, but in the last couple years there was a huge manhunt for a suspect and when they finally found him, he had already killed himself.

This is starting to appear like a hit masterminded by an elite libertarian hack group. It does not seem like a personal hit, but a corporate or systemic level hit. Witty might be next.
The gunman appears foreign and very refined in mannerisms, maybe French, he is probably out of the country by now.
refined!!! that was the adjective I was looking for (and I could not find in my mind at that precise moment) yesterday when I wrote about getting dancer & pianist vibes from the killer because of his hands and gait.

I never mentioned it to anyone other than my husband, but I also thought that the guy at Starbucks and the guy at the Hostel looked like two different people.

I was looking mainly at the eye shape. The noses also look different. Everyone is saying the same thing about Brian Thompson assassin photos

Just my opinion, but I think the assassin is long gone from NYC.

Just goes to show you we can't trust the news sources out there.

They are rushing to get the latest news from un-named sources and the information is either inaccurate or misunderstood by the media.
Whilst I agree with the sentiment, in fairness on this one MSM never reported that it was definitely connected. They reported it as investigative lead. Which has now been concluded as not related.

So will LE send the dna sample to 23 me for genealogy testing.
I dont think 23 and me uses their database for forensic genetic genealogy.

They would likely run it thru codis, and possibly gedmatch if codis doesnt produce a hit

I also work for a similar sized entity. It is very unusual for a person of his position to be alone anywhere. Not even as a security concern but there is a lot of prep and multitasking going on and there is always some sort of entourage. Our CEO doesn't even walk down the hall in our own office by himself for very far.

The problem I have with the timing is that Mr. Thompson would not have known exactly where he would be to high precision early that morning. Even if this were an inside job, catching him as he walked in would still have been nearly impossible to coordinate and having him be alone is just so weird I can't even convey to you how unusual that is.

To me this will prove to be some planning and considerable luck. The perp knew someone from UNH would be walking in and waited until he saw someone he either recognized, or that looked like a business guy.

BT was just in the wrong place at the wrong time to be the victim.
Anyone familiar with investor meetings know the elite show up early to meet and greet, chit chat, hand shaking, coffee, breakfast snacks.

Have we confirmed a security team traveled with BT? If so, it is odd, unless the team was waiting to accompany the entire group. I don't think he felt threatened.

Moo....

Yes. They never said it was in fact the gun, and I found it incredibly dubious to begin with. He came from south of the city, and he'd have to be a Connecticut resident in order to purchase that. It just didn't fit.

There are plenty of suits walking around in Manhattan but the bullet casing words tell us this was targeted towards a top dog at UHC. Just because someone in a suit is walking towards the hotel where the investor conference is, the killer couldn’t assume that person is a top dog at UHC. It could have been an investor too. So this clearly means that a) he knew it was Thompson and that is who he is after. b) he knew what Thompson was wearing and at what exact minute he would show up there. We know he wasn’t physically stalking Thompson so either someone else gave him that info or he had some kind of phone hack on Thompson to be able to track him remotely. JMO
Could the perp have had an informant among the hotel staff or another guest? The former is not likely if he was from out of state.

I have the same question- how on earth, several hours later, in NYC, do you pull out that water bottle from the garbage with any level of certainty. Even if the arriving police officers were prescient enough to gather every garbage bag as soon as they arrived and sealed them up.
Yeah, the whole "picking up evidence associated with the crime" thing seems crazy to me. This is....Manhattan. I can imagine the number of items lying on any given street. Yet, they seem to think they have picked up just such items.

Amazing!

I want to see more evidence it was specifically targeted to BT vs any executive of UNH. BT may have just been the first executive looking person who walked into range. I am not saying it wasn't targeted to BT, I just haven't seen the evidence he was targeted.
If we follow the lawsuits lead, which of course is just speculation, there are only handful of executives implicated, himself included. His part is actually relatively low compared to others who were named. $15m vs $102m like one of the other executives.

After The City of Hollywood Firefighters Pension Fund lawsuit was filed in May, three more were filed in Minnesota between July - August. Two of them were consolidated and terminated, while a third is still active.

Given the lower amount of his involvement, it’s reasonable to think that he was perhaps cooperating, as a motive.

As far as direct evidence from the scene we have nothing so far. But, the perp spent a lot of time casing out the scene and acted upon one person only. We haven’t heard yet how many others were seen coming and going that morning but from the actions it seems targeted.

Did anyone at the Hostel where he stayed (desk clerk, roommates?) say if he had any accent?

Lots of Southerners, from deep Texas, work on not speaking with the Southern accent when out of their area of living. It seems that the trend is to lose it even in school.
My husband grew up in South Carolina, and has no accent at all. He worked to neutralize it because of his jobs. He didn't want anyone to get a "preconceived" notion of who he was, to include his level of "intelligence."

When we lived in New York, my coworkers thought I was the one with a "Southern" accent. They introduced another employee who had a strong Georgia accent to me and said that I sounded just like her.

I grew up outside of Baltimore and had more of a "Baltimore" or "Philly" accent. When I worked for a major telecommunications company in Alabama, they thought that I was a "damn" Yankee!!

So, bottom line, I wouldn't rely on a perceived accent of the assassin. Even Canadians sound American except for a few telltale words!

I’m curious if he was on his own while traveling. Was he at the hotel with other coworkers, friends, or guests? Has anyone heard anything about it?

SBM. Was the perp's attire weather appropriate for that day? What are the chances that he comes from a cold climate?
Maybe he prepared ahead with the weather forecast/average temperatures etc. and brought the necessary gear, or did someone else provide him the items? Seems he may have had/has local help. MOO

but those masks don't blink or move your mouth when you talk, dude. they're for fooling quick passersby and cameras on the street, not for actual human interaction.
Exactly right. However thin they are, they cover your mouth and eyes. They're not following anyone who's close up and face to face.

Okay, this is not my area of interest, so: What database is it that utilizes DNA from crime scenes and then "builds a family tree around it" (my words) using the DNA data? Like with the Golden Gate killer? And would they do this in this scenario?

BINGO!

The knowledge of his exact movements that morning is crucial to carrying out the shooting - he assumed his position SIX minutes before BT walked by! After his leisurely Starbucks stop 30 min prior. There are only two options:

1 - The shooter is in communication with one of the people you have listed above - family, assistant, friends, coworkers, security etc.

OR

2 - This is some spy movie, CIA style professional hitman getting his information from a cyberattack or hacked devices.

And based on the cute smiles to the hostel worker, the Starbies stop 30 minutes before the shooting and sleeping in a hostel a few feet from others, I just don't think this guy is a pro :)
I don't think he's a pro either.
