I hope that this comment will be further pursued. It seems striking that the shooter must have known the exact movements and timing of BT that morning. I have not heard this mentioned in media reports either.
I like to believe he was hacked. Or was tracked by spyware of some sort?

Yes!!! Even without security there is always a bevy of people who meet and walk over together. Never ever are people at his level alone. This is a guy who ran a multi-multi billion dollar business. There is something that needs attention at 6am that people will be hounding him about.
Yup, my company is a meet in the lobby and walk on over group. What are the odds that he was alone-did he always go super-early, by himself? Was he set up somehow? What time was breakfast supposed to start? It really did seem super-early for him to be out on the street.

Yes anti establishment sentiment.
I'm leaning toward some anarchist or activist group like Antifa or Anonymous. They are loaded with smart but brainwashed individuals. The planning and execution indicates that this was not a solo job, but the guy made so many mistakes that I doubt he was a professional hit man. I don't think a pro would leave so much potential DNA evidence unless he was planning to leave the country before being caught. According to the LE expert in a video posted earlier, his handling of the weapon indicates that he wasn't familiar with a noise suppressor's affect on the gun.
(Just my opinions)

CNN: NYPD believes the suspect has left the city.

Medical examiner is testing DNA evidence from a water bottle and cellphone.

They were probably able to track him using cameras after he left the park, further than we currently know. Seems to me it would be quite difficult to get off camera and disappear without reappearing on another camera. I am curious to know how that happened and if there was a plan for escaping the cameras and making the bike vanish too. They could have recovered the bike and not released that info.

No, he's saying doing a hit in downtown Manhattan like this is specifically a lot more risky than in just about any other area, thus making it less likely that it is a professional hitman just doing a job for some cash.
Not to be nitpicky, but this wasn't downtown Manhattan. It was midtown, which is a different area. I know it sounds like it doesn't matter, but they are two different parts of the city.

Police believe person of interest in CEO shooting has left New York City

From CNN's Elise Hammond
Investigators have a “reason to believe” the person of interest in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO has left New York City, according to police commissioner Jessica Tisch.

She told CNN’s Shimon Prokupecz that police released photos of the person not wearing a mask on Thursday because they want a “wider audience to see the picture outside of New York City.”

This is the first interview with top police officials since the shooting happened.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said officers are conducting a “very very extensive video canvas.” They are reviewing footage from around the Hilton hotel, where the shooting occurred, to uptown Manhattan.

He said the suspected gunman rode on a bike from the shooting scene to Central Park. The person then exited the park around 77th Street, still with the bike, Kenny said. Footage later shows him walking at 86th Street and Columbus Avenue, according to Kenny, before he gets in a cab that takes him to a Port Authority bus center near 178th Street and Broadway.

“Those buses are interstate buses. That’s why we believe he may have left New York City,” he said, adding that police are working to figure out which bus the person may have gotten on.

This post has been updated with additional details from Kenny.

The inbound bus originated in Atlanta but it was not immediately clear where the suspected boarded. However, sources said he was spotted on board in Washington D.C., so he boarded there or somewhere between DC and Atlanta.

This seems to confirm the NYT's reporting that the suspect is believed to have exited the park around 60th Street. If the suspect ditched the bag in the park right near the Center Drive entrance, LE should be able to find it as it is a pretty small area to search. If they don't find the backpack, my guess would be that either an unwitting passerby who has not followed the news about the shooting picked it up or the backpack was intentionally handed off to a third-party.
Really surprised they are just now finding this out and searching that particular area.

I know, which I tried to convey by saying I'm not trying to be nitpicky....but errors can be repeated and in this case, it could eventually snowball into discussions based on incorrect info. But, welcome to Websleuths. Glad to have newcomers.

Your theory makes a lot of sense.

Yeah much smaller area to search than previously thought with the W 86th exit!

I would assume they knew this yesterday, but are just releasing this info today.

BINGO!

The knowledge of his exact movements that morning is crucial to carrying out the shooting - he assumed his position SIX minutes before BT walked by! After his leisurely Starbucks stop 30 min prior. There are only two options:

1 - The shooter is in communication with one of the people you have listed above - family, assistant, friends, coworkers, security etc.

OR

2 - This is some spy movie, CIA style professional hitman getting his information from a cyberattack or hacked devices.

And based on the cute smiles to the hostel worker, the Starbies stop 30 minutes before the shooting and sleeping in a hostel a few feet from others, I just don't think this guy is a pro :)
Maybe the lookalike guy who showed his face was staking out the hotel and let him know.
I hope that this comment will be further pursued. It seems striking that the shooter must have known the exact movements and timing of BT that morning. I have not heard this mentioned in media reports either.
Could he have paid a hotel employee to let him know got off the elevator in his hotel?
