Interesting. My attorney brain interpreted that as depose, as in a deposition. That's why I was asking earlier. But your interpretation makes sense. If it was "deny, defend, depose" then I would think they mean litigation.

I believe intentional. VERY intentional.

It’s a gun designed to put down sick animals (irony/message/motive)…
It also disassembles into many, many pieces. We watched the shooter begin to disassemble it immediately after the shooting as he was preparing to stash it.

My guess is those gun parts are long soread between NYC and Washington DC, where (MOO) I’d bet he boarded a flight out of the country.

Yikes. I hope not because touch DNA might target the person who found it. The finder would have been better off taking it to the police station in that case.

I find it extremely hard to believe that any professional would take the risk of doing this in midtown manhattan.

And anyone high profiled enough to afford this wouldn’t hire anyone to do this in midtown. Again, too much risk and puts your freedom on the line.

This could have been done in Minnesota at a traffic light.

Ooooh! I just had a crazy idea! What if BT hired his own killer?!? Wants to preserve his legacy, maintain his wealth for his family, knows he’s going down. Could explain the no security, bright blue jacket, impeccable timing, well-funded assassin who had plenty of time to plan this out.

And no, not sure I believe this one either, but this case is driving me nuts, clearly, haha.

I definitely have thought this from day one. Hitman even went to Starbucks and wasn't worried about missing BT walking out of hotel.

I’d kind of call in the shot to the head though, if it were me, and skip the calf and back ones :/

The killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson could be a "disgruntled" employee or client of the health insurance giant, the NYPD's top detective said Friday.

Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny revealed investigators' thinking on the still-unidentified gunman's motive during a huddle with reporters.

"Our thought on it is obviously it could possibly be a disgruntled employee or disgruntled client," he said.

The potential that the killer bore a grudge against UnitedHealthcare -- which attracted hate and controversy even before the shocking murder for denying claims -- and its chief executive, Thompson, casts his apparent meticulousness in planning, carrying out and escaping consequences for his shocking crime in an even darker light.

The masked gunman not only appears have meticulously planned his shocking hit on Thompson, 50, outside a Midtown Hilton hotel, but also took great pains to conceal his identity, Kenny said.

The suspect said nothing to his roommates during his days-long stay at an Upper West Side hostel, Kenny said.

He even kept his mask on while eating, the chief said.

Sources have said the sole image showing the suspect's face only came about because he was flirting with a receptionist at the hostel.

A disgruntled employee or a client of UHC would not have access to the itinerary of the CEO down to the minute, and over 10 days in advance.

The ponds are literally only a few feet deep. The reservoir is deep, but there is a popular running track plus a fence around the water.

I doubt he threw anything in the water.

Maybe not, but he did have many days to prepare, which could have included tampering with the fence to create a spot to throw something into the reservoir.

Finally caught up here! I tend to stay away for the first few days of these type investigations since there is so much conjecture that passes for "news" these days. Very happy to hear they have recovered the gray backpack, this feels like a great step.

Well- I have been wrong on everything about this case so far.

Didn't think it was going to prove to be well planned- boy was it
Thought they would catch him by the end of the day- didn't
Thought he would be local to the region and get caught using his EZpass or Commuter card- not it

I do think they will get him sooner rather than later.

So dialing the wheel of possibilities... they will get him today.

This has been my thought all along. Very well organized, loopholes exploited perfectly, with searing messages. Just wild

Killer believes that someone very close to him (maybe himself) was wronged by UHC, and perhaps BT in particular. It could be a denied claim, cancelled insurance, wrongful termination (or, something else employment related). Those words he chose for the casings he left at the scene scream lawsuit to me. Why bother with any type of silencer in this plan? He had to know there would be other people on the street in the morning in NYC. Maybe it was for less immediate attention, but I think he may have planned to catch BT one-on-one indoors. This may have been plan B. I think he was so determined to do this that he didn't care if he was killed in the act. He took a big chance, and I agree with everyone that posted about this being very planned out.

If he wanted to send a message, he couldn’t have picked a better place and way to do it.

That’s why I think that’s the motive, as opposed to some personal grudge or hired hit or something.

This is something straight out of a movie, as assassination type killings just don’t happen with any regularity. They certainly don’t happen on camera, using a suppressed weapon.

They also don’t include bullet casings with cryptic words written on them.

As much as it’s captured the public’s imagination in that regard, it’s also been successful in putting a discussion of the health insurance industry at the forefront.

I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
