IMO I would be shocked if he waited for the bus to Philly or Boston, he was probably at the bus station by 8am at the latest — I just don’t see him loitering in the bus station (which IIRC has a police station/booth inside it) for 2+ hours. MOO but I think he got on a bus to NJ and then started navigating to wherever he is now.

I keep thinking his accomplice was inside Brian’s hotel. And that’s who the suspect was talking to on the phone. Someone in the lobby, who notified him with a code word the second he saw Brian leaving the lobby. Which is how the suspect had it timed perfectly.

I’ve thought all along that he had an accomplice, likely inside the hotel, because, especially, the timing of killer’s arrival and BT leaving hotel was very close, and because he was captured on camera talking (or appearing to talk) on the phone minutes beforehand. Also, how would he know that BT was sans security that morning. Certainly, it’s possible he made an educated guess if he’d been surveilling him for the last 24 hours or so, who knows?

The big problem I see with the scenario of an accomplice (especially one at the hotel) at this point is: Wouldn’t they know exactly who the accomplice is by now? Maybe they do and haven’t told us, but the way this investigation is going, I’d think we would know. Hotels have cameras everywhere, and I’d think the whole accomplice idea is something LE would want to rule out early on. I’d think camera/video footage and employees would have been scrutinized very early on. I could be wrong, though.

If he wanted to send a message, he couldn’t have picked a better place and way to do it.

That’s why I think that’s the motive, as opposed to some personal grudge or hired hit or something.

This is something straight out of a movie, as assassination type killings just don’t happen with any regularity. They certainly don’t happen on camera, using a suppressed weapon.

They also don’t include bullet casings with cryptic words written on them.

As much as it’s captured the public’s imagination in that regard, it’s also been successful in putting a discussion of the health insurance industry at the forefront.

I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

Yes. And I think because it's such a rare type of murder, and an attack on the system, if you will, they're going to solve it relatively quickly. Or die trying.

Wow. I have not thought about the killer possibly knowing that Thompson would be walking alone 10 days ahead of time. And that he would not have security with him.

There is no way an angry customer or disgruntled employee had access to his calendar. Whomever wanted this guy dead had inside info to know all that.

If it took them over two days to find his backpack in Central Park then I can see how he has easily stayed two (or ten) steps ahead of them in his escape.

It was like finding a needle in a haystack. I’m glad they stuck with it and expanded the search area today.

It was the updated version. Can still be bought in pieces, but seems less likely. This guy had a ton of money. He possibly shipped it in pieces to avoid detection and collected them here in the US, avoiding detection…

The traceability if he bought it new would be a concern. Still kind of a rare gun so finding something like it stolen could be difficult. But anything is possible. JMO

This is super interesting!! I was just wondering if someone could plot the routes and times from that station now we know what time he went in there. I wonder how many possibilities there are (if local buses are more regular) and just how many hours of CCTV footage at all those exits there will be!

IMO he would’ve wanted to get on any bus going in any direction to buy some distance to regroup and get on the right track. I’d be surprised if this part wasn’t meticulously planned too like the rest seems to be JMO.

Yeah he could have just took a local bus to somewhere like Newark and then picked up that same Greyhound that left GW at 1:23 pm but got out of the city a lot earlier.

New York police officers on Friday found a backpack in Central Park that they believe was carried by the man who fatally shot the UnitedHealthcare chief executive Brian Thompson, according to two law enforcement officials familiar with the investigation.

Crime scene technicians photographed and collected evidence in the undergrowth late Friday afternoon as they searched for the distinctive bag the gunman had worn early Wednesday morning. They were also searching for the weapon he used: a pistol that appeared to be fitted with a silencer.

One official said that the contents of the backpack for now remain unknown, and it would be taken directly to a crime lab.

The technicians entered a wooded area in the southern end of the park to photograph and collect evidence, including what appeared to be clothing and a heavy object, placing them into bags as street lamps and Christmas lights flickered on throughout the park.

It was unclear if the items were connected to the gunman, but the location was along what might have been a potential escape route as he cycled through Central Park after the shooting early Wednesday morning.

Or was instructed to by whoever hired him. It didn’t seem personal to the killer at all. He was just the executioner.

I firmly believe this is a revenge murder. The suspect is young, I’m thinking he has a close family member who lost their life due to denial of medical care. He is deeply hurt emotionally and angry over their death.

Working in HC, I’ve seen the emotional side when an insurance says NO. It’s devastating. We’ve all seen the crowd source funding for kids in desperate, life threatening need of unapproved care. It’s changes a person.

All my opinion …
