Wow, he made no effort to hide the bag (assuming that this is his bag, which it appears to be). It looks to me like he just tossed it over the side of one of the biking or walking paths based in the Ramble just below the 79th St Transverse based on the ~2.5-3 foot wall of Manhattan schist topped with granite shown in the picture.
I really think that what he had just done hit him, and he wasn’t thinking clearly.

It’s one thing to game this all out in your head, but another thing entirely to carry it out.

I still question why he was on the phone right before he went over there.
Agreed.
That would hopefully answer so many questions.
Omo.

The idea floated this is "revenge" on a big bad insurance company, the words on the bullets, etc. is all by design and a red herring.

This is much deeper than that.
This was my thought yesterday but now idk. The lead detective said they think he acted alone so I kind of feel like I’m back to having no confidence as to what the motive was

Also that bit he left on top of the trash bags, he kind of put it right at the top, not behind, under, or in between the bags. Is he trolling the police?

Well, if I were a young, white guy, I would not be wearing a face mask, a hoodie or carrying an expensive backpack. I also would not be wearing expensive shoes. I can well imagine that everyone everywhere is on the lookout for this guy.

Maybe, people his age don't watch the news or pay attention to articles about things like this. Hopefully, someone has put his face on TikTok. Isn't that where the younger generation gets its news nowadays?

JMO.
There is no way they are related but this post looks exactly like it came out of the Scott Ratigan thread.

The person of interest in the footage has had multiple different theories created about two pairs of shoes, exact change of same attire, and exact change of backpack.

Why leave it there in the open? Of all the places you could have discarded something somewhere. Wouldn't you be able to trash it and it might not be found?
I don't think he cared if the backpack was found or not. He wanted to ditch it to distance himself from it immediately after the crime, but he knew by the time it was found in the park, he'd be long gone.

I hope the backpack is useful to LE but I don't think the assassin is worried about it.

Flat-out wrong. New York City still has large numbers of mask-wearers and I see scores of them on a daily basis, on sidewalks, in public transit, stores, movie theatres, museums, etc. They're not a majority, but there are still enough mask-wearers out there to be easily noticeable and no one I know finds the practice "suspicious."

I live in Florida and I don't see many people wearing masks. One or two here and there, usually older women or men. Guess mask wearing is different in every state.

Not against this but what is your thought on the purpose of leaving the battery behind?
The only thing I can think of is maybe he figured LE would be looking for an e-bike so by removing the battery he thought could make it look more like a ‘normal’ bike, making it slightly more difficult for witnesses/LE to ID the bike he presumably abandoned as the same one depicted in CCTV immediately after the shooting. My guess is that he did this in the hope that any fingerprints/DNA evidence he left on the bike would be gone by the time LE made the connection.

I've been thinking about why leave the battery also, can't really think of why or what else the heavy object he ditched would be.
I think he was seen pedaling the bike after he exited the park (rather than relying on battery power?) in the video of him rounding the corner past the garbage truck, sans backpack. Maybe he tossed the battery then too? MOO

Suspect scoped the area before attack - police

The NYPD has said this evening that the suspect went directly to the vicinity of the midtown Hilton hotel - where Thompson was fatally shot earlier this week - shortly after he arrived in New York on 24 November.

He spent about 30 minutes in the area before taking a cab to a hostel on the Upper West Side where he checked in, Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said in a briefing.

Police have him leaving the hostel early on Wednesday morning, the day of the shooting, where he is again seen walking in the vicinity of the Hilton and stopping at a nearby Starbucks.

After the shooting, police last have him at 7:04 local time at 86th street and Amsterdam, where he takes a cab to the port authority bus terminal. They believe he took a bus from there but do not know which one.

Police have so far not found the bike he used the day of the shooting.

Police also said he had two roommates at the hostel who he did not know, and he kept his mask on around them the entire time.

They believe the gunman acted alone. They also do not believe that Thompson was targeted over anything related to his personal life.

I do! All the time, especially when it’s 23 degrees out. Way less suspicious post-Covid. In NYC no one notices masks or cares much these days.
Truth, I live in Pennsyltucky and routinely see folks in masks out in public

DBM someone else already posted

If he entered Central Park on Central Drive, the Carousel is right on the way and not at all far from the site of the attack.

I'll bet LE is going to be able to trace him walking that route in the days prior to the day of the murder and scoping out the area.

It looks like he did try to hide it a little, behind a short wall with leaves that have collected there.

Same with the water bottle, wrappers and phone. I've wondered about this. It's not just one item as though it's a mistake, but several.

Not against this but what is your thought on the purpose of leaving the battery behind?
a. it is heavy
b. it can catch on fire
c. done with it

Well, yeah. Given the politics that many people attach to wearing masks I’m not surprised at all to hear there’s a massive difference in mask-wearing between NYC and Florida, lol
