NY - UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson fatally shot in Midtown. #4

Maybe a lot of CCTV footage gets wiped after a week or something? So he entered NYC at a time prior that this arrival footage was unavailable? All speculation I don’t know how long the average cctv footage is held.

None of us know how long it is kept for and for good reason. My wondering is about what he (the killer) was thinking because his planning on the front end and back end seems to be very effective.

Why top internet sleuths refuse to solve UnitedHealthcare CEO’s murder

Why top internet sleuths refuse to solve UnitedHealthcare CEO’s murder

Maybe they’re frustrated with their own experience of claims denied etc.? Just a guess.

“It’s not your traditional check in, check out. It’s the kind of thing where if you don’t show up at a certain time, they automatically just check you out,” Kenny said. “We don’t believe that he went someplace else. It’s more of an administrative checkout.

From CNN timeline.
@ElizaKate had asked for this article and I couldn’t find it. Thought I was going crazy. So thank you!

... Plus, if the suspect was American I would think they would have found him by now, wouldn't you?
With the amount of resources being deployed he should absolutely have been found by now. With the amount of evidence left and video surveillance he could have been found in 48hrs if this were a common perp. NYC has been transformed to tackle terrorism since 9/11. This is a high profile case and on an operational level, is a very bad look for the public image of the security state that has been set up by NYPD. It didn’t stop or solve this in a timely manner. One can tell the strain by how the mayor is reacting. This isn’t a typical case or perp at all IMO.

I am curious about the “Delay, Deny, Defend” book that has been at topic of this case. Does anyone know how popular this book really was? I had never heard of it, not that that means much. It was written in 2010, almost 25 years ago. Seems a strange manifesto for the perp to hang their hat on to me? This is my complete speculation but I feel like it would have been most on the radar of people working in the insurance industry, rather than the general public.

And likely someone older than the perp we’ve seen. I haven’t read it but my first reaction is that a book 25 years old is very out of date for the healthcare industry, technology, society, politics in general. Again adds to questioning of motive, background, actors behind this situation.
I worked for United Healthcare from 2013 to 2021 as an RN Case Manager. I had never heard of that book until it was mentioned in the news about this case. No one I worked with ever mentioned it either.

If they have an idea who this perp is, then yes, the DNA on the backpack and the water bottle will finish him, most likely.

If it has to go to IGG, that's a longer bet and depends a lot on his background. If he knows that some of his relatives are the type to submit to open databases, he would be better off skipping the country ASAP. He needs to avoid that cheek swab.

I get the feeling that this is a man who values outsmarting LE and is treating each day at large as a bonus to having completed his main goal (revenge). That makes him a bit of Tom Ripley character.

I showed his picture to some students and they said there was nothing memorable about him and they doubted they could remember that "average face." One asked if it was Bryan Kohberger and said he resembles him. While some people are excellent at storing databases of faces, most people aren't.

He can rely on a hoodie and a scarf to mask a lot of what is distinctive about him. He's probably not going to be smiling in public so frequently.

I too believe he went "back home" (where ever that is) and will wait this out. I predict he's something of a loner, but does have family somewhere (but they are unlikely to turn him in). He will likely change his hair and grow facial hair. As time passes, the average Joe Public will not remember or recognize him - but LE will be looking for him.

If he was able to leave the country before the entire story broke, that would make this a very well-planned assassination indeed. I am assuming that JFK no longer has luggage lockers, but I too have pondered whether he had another backpack stashed out in the park, not far from where he dropped the first one. I also ponder if he masked his fingerprints (easy enough to do).

IMO
Also, I think the nonsmiling photo of him looks very different from the smiling one and I’m wondering how different he actually looks in real life. Those security cameras can distort features quite a bit. One example is the woman who mowed down and elderly man while she was on a motor scooter in LA:

Well, whether it was an "administrative check-out" or he physically checked himself out......where was he?

Not sure what an administrative check out actually is. Of he booked for 10 nights and paid for 10 nights, I'm note sure why the hostel would check him out?

Forgive me if this was linked previously I didn’t see it on here. Two families of deceased people were suing UHC for their use of software that uses AI to deny claims. IMO murder is not justified. I’m just simply linking potentially relevant datapoints.

Pretty shady. And, in the article the accusation is that it was only the AI software that determined, ignoring doctors and not in good faith at all. Company seems to have large reversal on denial of care. IF I recall correctly, the AI software use was initiated under the leadership of Mr. Thompson.

From the above cited article:
"This is an example of how AI is being utilized not to help people but to line the pockets of corporations and their shareholders," Clarkson said.
When these coverage denials are appealed to federal administrative law judges, about 90% are reversed, the complaint said, demonstrating the "blatant inaccuracy" of the algorithm. Only a tiny fraction of patients appeal the denials at all, Clarkson said."

“All of a sudden, I am fired up again,” said Tim Anderson, describing how his wife, Mary, had to deal with UnitedHealthcare coverage denials before she died from Lou Gehrig’s disease, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, in 2022.

Anderson said they couldn’t get coverage for machines to help his wife breathe or talk — toward the end, she communicated by blinking when he showed her pictures. The family had to rely on donations from a local ALS group, he said.

“The business model for insurance is don’t pay,” said Anderson, 67, of Centerville, Ohio.

UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting opens floodgates of Americans venting insurance frustrations

He is the CEO. With the enormous amount of influence United Health has, it in many ways kind of makes him a pawn which might be unpopular to say. He worked there for 20+ years to get to that role. He was a loyal, good employee. The more unsavory figures work in the background. His part of the insider trading allegations is small compared to his associates. That makes me raise a brow that he could have been targeted to make a deal to take down others. There is much more going on than just the sale of stocks when you read into it.
This article has some more:
Interesting.

I wonder if the shooting was done by a competitor in the market. Change Healthcare provides neutral services but is now owned by United Health and introduces conflict of interest.

It's very eye opening and anger inducing

Or, the internet personalities know that this is a polarizing topic and will not help their bottom line. The online public can be brutal if they are against you.

Could just be a system they have since most of their clients are heavy travelers/on the move. As for where he was, that’s one of the many remaining questions - where was he up until the 3rd

If this was some quickly planned shooting or something, I'd be concerned about that. This was painstaking, and took an incredible amount of planning, and 10 tedious days on the ground.

So I don't suddenly see some pivot from a guy like that, to a spree killer.
I originally thought we might have one here. A serial killer who sees himself as some sort of “Dexter” vigilante justice type (I can hear the groans from here!)…

But I continue to think there is a group behind this, someone from overseas, and we may see other similar types of attacks on the wealthy/powerful.
