It’s NYC. The only thing that would cause folks to take a second look about that outfit if if the person licked the handrail in the subway
Getthefax, I've wanted to say this for a long time. I can't think of much that would stand out in NYC. It's, well, NYC. It's pretty much known for being the place where one can, and does, see anything at any time. It's really the thing that makes it unique in the world. If one wants to don nothing but pantyhose and walk down the street, go for it, but don't think nobody else is doing it. If you want to dress in black from head to toe, with two holes cut out of the full hood for the eyes, go for it. But don't think no one else is doing it.

If I saw this guy, in any of the photos that we've seen, there's just absolutely nothing that would have stood out. If I'd seen the photos on TV late on, I'm sure I wouldn't recognize him, simply for that fact.

The reward keeps going up! I think this says a lot..... They know who the suspect is at this point.... they know someone out there knows him. So, they keep raising the reward enticing people to come forward....

yep, kinda weird. Just sitting there not hidden.
I don't think it's weird. He dropped the backpack to get rid of it. He didn't take the time to hide it because there was no reason. His primary goal was to cover distance.

And he was right. By the time it was found, he's long gone.

Edited to add: I mean he didn't take the time to hide it by covering it. He "hid" it simply by its location. It's not out in the open, but it was simply dropped there, imo.

Yes, it's easily found on social media or the internet. Not linking it because I don't want to watch, but I've almost accidentally watched a few times!

I saw something a few days ago that the first shot may have been lower than he intended because that gun fires more downward than one would expect. JMO, I have never shot a gun so I would not know :-)
I think it is getting more difficult to find the uncensored version as it seems to be getting deleted. Now that I have watched it, it looks like that leg shot caused some extra panic in BT.

Is it a standard that in situations like these we aren’t told about victim’s whereabouts prior? BT got to Lux on Monday for a wed conference.
I would be surprised he wasn’t watched on Monday and Tuesday.
Just wondering why there’s no leaks on what his Monday afternoon/evening and Tuesday looked like. Was he followed?
And if we hear his killer stayed at Lux that one unaccounted night, honestly I wouldn’t be surprised bc this is such an intriguing case and everything out of a Grisham novel.

NJ, like most states, embeds holograms, etc., to make it easier to spot fake IDs, so this guy must have had a fairly convincing one. Did he make it himself? If someone made it for him, they're obviously laying low.
Stole someone else’s Jersey ID?

It sounds like the East Coast equivalent of Venice Beach. Or San Francisco.

That smile reminds me of pictures I've seen of a number of political activists of the selfie generation, who smile their nicest smiles in booking photos as if they're delighted to have been arrested. They know it annoys LE & others.

At least for the ID he used at the hostel, it was reported it didn't match anyone's actual ID. So, not stolen.

I don't know that he didn't have other ID, though.

The killer could have shot BT coming out of the Lux that morning. Would have been less complicated because he wouldn’t have to worry about the route BT took or which door he entered.
Waiting to shoot him as he entered into the conference hotel makes much more of a statement.

People think that the guy in the two bottom photos might not be the same, I disagree - but if I was going to entertain the thought of two men, the one from Starbucks looks different to me. I can see in the top right photo that his nose does have that bulbous appearance, but his skin appears less olive to me. The hands are very similar, but my husband's hands could just as easily pass for the same.

The thing I cannot wrap my head around is how someone took so much time to carefully plan this entire plot, but they seemingly didn't have a clear plan for the backpack? If these two men are the same, and they apparently are, why didn't he just put the gray backpack inside the black backpack when he was in the park? Ditching the backpack so haphazardly feels out of place, unless it's a decoy of some sort.

If reporting is correct we know that the shooter was seen in Starbucks and ordered at least water and two bars of some kind, maybe coffee. Three minutes after that he’s seen on video walking towards the crime scene and appearing to be talking on the phone. Nothing in his hands. I wonder if he thought he had a little more time. He got there about 5 mins before BT. Cutting it close? Maybe he thought BT would be arriving a little bit later than he did?

Tips seems like a perfect use case for AI in investigations. How many departments would love to have custom AI engines that help weed out the lulus and highlight the really useful ones (at least for a first pass)?
Pretty sure Delphi PD wish they'd have had some free, unbiased help there... MOO.

Unfortunately, AI isn't infallible.

Authorities have the name of Brian Thompson's suspected killer: NYC Mayor Adams

By Georgia Worrell and Tina Moore
Authorities have the name of the suspect who assassinated United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson and are closing in, Mayor Adams said Saturday.

“The net is tightening,” the mayor told reporters at a Police Athletic League holiday party in Harlem.

They don't look the same to me either unless they altered the color in Photoshop, lightened it, or the fluorescent lights in Starbucks played a part. There are way too many young men in Seattle who look just like this guy. Dress exactly the same!

If he did, in fact, simply go home, he may have been one of the Peoples Action Institute protestors that picketed the company this past summer, and just took it to the next level... I'm sure LE have scoured those databases and are continuing to cross check. I still think he's out of the country, because while this is one helluva high profile murder, an international manhunt for a guy who killed one person is likely to begin to die down eventually if he can buy enough time.

UnitedHealthcare CEO murder comes amid insurance coverage controversies
I am leaning toward the same possibility, that he is a radicalized extremist from the group you mention or some other similar type group. He believes in whatever cause they are promoting, believes it enough to assassinate someone and thinks that justifies the murder. And if this is the case, then he likely seeks notoriety either for himself or for whatever cause he believes in.

This article is confusing - they say they have the name, but then there is this part:

“We don’t want to release that now,” the mayor said when asked if police have the killer’s name. “If you do, you are basically giving a tip to the person we are seeking and we do not want to give him an upper hand at all. Let him continue to believe he can hide behind the mask. We revealed his face. We’re going to reveal who he is and we’re going to bring him to justice.”
