Suspect could be ‘disgruntled’ employee or client, police say
Police are coming closer to identifying the motive behind the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

“It could possibly be a disgruntled employee or a disgruntled client,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said.

Investigators say the suspect has likely left New York City.

Ratigan's case, Thompson's case, or both?

We have ran into this a million times, but usually speculated the perp is a woman when a woman is murdered by a strange figure on CCTV.

The Florence Salon murders, Missy Bevers, Liz B, Lane Bryant massacre, lots of others.
Well, I have only dabbled in those cases and haven’t studied them intently as I have been doing with this one.. but those latest specific photos make it look like the perp has some extra junk in the trunk.

I’ll go find the pics and attach here.

Does anyone know what Starbucks he used?

This article is confusing - they say they have the name, but then there is this part:

“We don’t want to release that now,” the mayor said when asked if police have the killer’s name. “If you do, you are basically giving a tip to the person we are seeking and we do not want to give him an upper hand at all. Let him continue to believe he can hide behind the mask. We revealed his face. We’re going to reveal who he is and we’re going to bring him to justice.”
They don’t wanna spook him.

He might take more drastic measures to evade capture, like taking his own life.

A few posters have mentioned this, and it makes really good sense to me. Maybe he is growing his facial hair back now. Maybe he's groomed his eyebrows and dyed his hair. He'll be caught eventually, and he's not as clever as he thinks he is. MOO
I like this idea but wouldn't it be somewhat more noticeable for the people in his environment? X always wears a beard and shaved it off coincidentally exactly when the murder was happening and then grew it back? Maybe he isn't around people as often so the change and regrowth would have gone unnoticed

Authorities have the name of Brian Thompson's suspected killer: NYC Mayor Adams

By Georgia Worrell and Tina Moore
Authorities have the name of the suspect who assassinated United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson and are closing in, Mayor Adams said Saturday.

“The net is tightening,” the mayor told reporters at a Police Athletic League holiday party in Harlem.

We're not going to release the name because we don't want to give a tip to the person we are seeking. Surely just stating you know their name gives a tip to the person you are seeking haha.

Nevertheless good news...

Is the info that is out there just stale right now, or am I not able to find it amidst the amount of media reporting on the backpack, "flirting" and GW Port Authority themes:

*number of bullets that struck BT and cause of death (was it 3 or more, and if so, location of the 3rd and subsequent)
*the woman who scurried out of the way as witness
*did the hostel staffer/roommates report foreign accent?
*any significance to the Douglass Houses sighting, or just passing from point A to point B past the park
*has any stills/footage AFTER the last Central Park sighting been released publicly?

Not sure is this good etiquette to ask/expect answers but I haven't found that in the threads recently..

I think this describes a lot of us here!

So, whenever I get going on some utterly silly, long-winded ramble, I appreciate those who politely roll their eyes in silence and scroll on by…
But wait! Some of us read those and appreciate them!

Replying to myself - there is also the bridge just south of the carousel where pedestrians walk under it and bikes go over it. I can't picture if there is a wall like this though - maybe? I still think it's just inside the park. If so, he shed it FAST. Well, either way, it was fast.

I don't know about that wall. Seems it was found in the park a bit south of 65th street -- not too far from where he was riding up Center Drive. Map with red circle from the NY Post: https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/12/94893464.jpg?quality=75&strip=all

Probably unpopular opinion, but I’ll share.
I don’t think he was flirting like we think he was. He had to show his face to get the room. I think he knew that.
Makes me wonder if it’s LE tactic to try to rattle him (kinda like tickling the wire) to make him appear stupid and not in control.

The way the media and pundits talk about this flirting moment is telling.
He could have been checking in and going along with the flirting and then she says “let me see your pretty face” as she’s checking his ID, instead of “please pull your mask down so that I can confirm your identity”.
It could be as simple as that.
She’d had to confirm especially since this hostel doesn’t allow guests with residences within a 75 mile radius.

Thank you….I feel the same.
He looks surly in the Starbucks picture and in the other hostel pic.

I posted somewhere far back that I believed he only showed his face because otherwise he wouldn’t be allowed to stay there. He had to match the (fake) I.D.

Then he, for the second it took, pulled out a disarming smile. No proof naturally, but it seemed to me that his smile has worked for him before.

It’s to his disadvantage that the camera was inevitably going to record him, but he did his best to minimize his resemblance to any “murdery” looking guy.

Of course only my opinion.

He might think he’s in the clear and think the NYPD is bs-ing to make him nervous.

It’s not as bad as Diane Feinstein with the Nightstalker, but it’s less than ideal.

Oh, I don't know......the USA has had more than it's fair share of assassinations: Martin Luther King, JFK, Robert F. Kennedy, John Lennon, Ronald Reagan (attempted) to think of a few just off the top of my head......

4. That's nothing, really, in the bigger picture....

I find it fascinating that unsolved murders with a video of the murderer often go into “is it a man or woman?” territory. Missy Bevers, Liz Barraza, Scott Ratigan all have compelling videos, but we can’t decide the gender, let alone precisely who they are. I hope all of these murders are solved someday.
That's what I asked my husband when I saw the two photos from the Hostel. S/he looks female in one and male in the other. My husband says that it is definitely a male (and he is always right - according to him!)

I even think that the guy at Starbucks might be different than the guy/girl at the Hostel (and so did one of the guys on CNN).

Now, that I saw Timothee Chalamet on ESPN picking the college teams, I agree with those posters who say the suspect (at the Hostel) looks like him.

Timothee is 28 years old. So, I am guessing the suspect around the same age.

eta: Both my husband and I think the Missy Bevers' killer is female.

JMO.

Do we have a video of the shots? Maybe he wanted to shoot low to avoid hitting others. Knee shot to get BT lower down, then a body shot.
Maybe the shooter knew the gun was not operating well with the suppression, so he shot the CEO first in the leg to hobble and slow him down. This gave the shooter more time to manually rack and slap the gun to make his next shot.

Okay! Thanks for that info.

I was in the park last weekend and exited at 65th.

I suppose it doesn't matter, but I will likely mosey around and try to find the spot where he left the backpack. ;)

Maybe because this crime does not feel American? Maybe the shooter is not American, that's why it feels off.

Curious why the crime doesn't feel American to you?
