He can’t be a former employee. He would have been recognized by now.

Agree, but possibly a contractor? Depending on what area they were working in, let’s say IT or security, he could work remotely all the time and not have much interaction with the company. He could even be a subcontractor - several layers removed from recognition, but still with access.

I’m in the ideological motive camp - against the for-profit healthcare industry, with UHC as the biggest and the worst offender, and BT as the symbolic head.

Originally I thought potential hit by estranged spouse before info regarding the words on the bullets and 10 day stay came out. I personally have never seen the level of planning and commitment in that type of crime, and that’s usually done close to home.

I agree with those that believe he will be caught, eventually, but when is the question.

It would have perhaps been preferable for his purposes to travel by car, and then bike, rather than using buses and taxis. I think it's likely he didn't have access to a car, so might have already moved abroad prior to the killing, then traveled back for the killing. His personal circle then would think he wasn't even in the country, if they thought they recognized him. Just a theory.

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed>

I saw hats, T-shirts, and other merchandise with the slogan "Deny, Defend, Depose."

Whether the killer wanted to make a political statement or just divert LE, he's garnering quite a following.

Scary, kind of.

And where do you buy the ammunition for such an unusual gun. Veterinary? It would seem an easier task for LE to track down potential suppliers.

Has there been discussion here about the possible source for the ammunition?!
It just uses standard 9x19 (aka 9mm Luger/9mm NATO/ 9mm Parabellum) ammo. Probably the most common centre-fire pistol round on the planet.

I also don’t think he is a hitman. This is personal to him.
I agree. But I think he's just some Walt who bears a grudge against, BT, the company, the health insurance industry or modern society in general.

But others responded by pointing out that there was a different sort of jam issue as well besides the need for cocking, and that no gun when working properly disgorges unspent rounds on the sidewalk
Just wondering- did the gun drop the unspent bullets or did he??

This was personal. Didn't have to be from MN, but it certainly was personal given the time it took to plan it out. That firefighter lawsuit out of Hollywood, FL kinda makes it sound like a short drive to ATL from FL, get on a bus and then shoot him. That takes dedication and sounds personal. Thought I read somewhere that the Firefighters lost their lawsuit against the the 3 CEO's. Class action lawsuit right?
Agreed, most definitely this is personal. The statement made that the shooter being from MN is interesting, hopefully they’ll share why they think this.

I think its strange how the CEO had no security. None.
Not unusual -Steve Jobs had no security, Bill Gates who gets an incredible amount of social media hate doesn’t, Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg don’t have bodyguards either and they are far higher profile than BT

NYPD have offered a $10,000 reward and the FBI have offered a $50,000 reward.

Why do you think United Healthcare haven't offered any money as a reward, despite being a multi-billion dollar company?
It seems employees are disposable in their eyes

The search for UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson ’s killer since Thompson was ambushed Wednesday outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel has stretched beyond New York City. While still looking to identify the suspect, the FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction. That’s on top of a $10,000 reward offered by the NYPD.

I'm still on the theory that BT set up the murder himself. I think he was on the phone with the hitman as he was walking out "I'm walking out this door with a bright blue blazer on." I honestly have a lot of respect for the resources the NYPD and the FBI have, and to have this guy vanish without anyone knowing who or where he is is quite baffling. I think he must really be a professional hitman. This was a very thought out plan -- not an emotional, revenge filled guy.
I doubt BT would say “shoot me in the leg first, then 3 times in the chest with weapon reloads”, it took a lot longer to kill him than a headshot to the temple

Maybe something has been posted to the contrary, but if I had been the assassin I would have checked out BT on Tuesday. Very stocky guy, mid western face, bright blue blazer, not a business blue, more a golf club blue, to my eyes. Murderer probably thought he'd been pretty lucky to see his target was dressed like that. Also, I get it that Wed. was the 1st day of mtg, is there any proof bt didn't visit the mtg room on Tuesday?
Great question! You’re right, typically the venue is reserved the day before, maybe beginning Monday afternoon. If so, presenters would have been there preparing before Wednesday.

You also can’t fly with a firearm.
You can fly with firearms if the proper arrangements are made. They must be in a locked, secure case, and in checked baggage only. They must be declared at check in and examined by the TSA.

Yeah, you can, but not as carryon. Plus there are time consuming, and attention drawing procedures, sometimes big "fire arm inside" stickers on the checked luggage. No way a hit man would choose that, no way a personal grievance stalker would either, imo. I've flown with a gun before, but they make you feel guilty, and get all "important" about the checkin, and every one in the line is watching. Maybe all airlines don't permit it, and I doubt you can fly into Canada with a handgun and without a bunch of red tape, but it's possible in the us and international to/from Alaska.

I don’t think so. What would be the point to set up his own murder even if he’s under investigation etc.?

That is a good question.

A video I watched suggested that he'd staggered them in the magazine and the reason for him manipulating the gun was to eject a live round from the chamber (meaning it would end up on the floor) rather than clearing a mis-feed.

Definitely looked to me as he was clearing a malfunction, though and the former reason just seems to be unnecessarily complex when you can just drop them.
