the DNA doesn't do them much good if he's not in any criminal database. i guess they can use it eventually to do family tree analysis. that would help if he has a close relative who happened to do 23 and me, etc.
The DNA is to have on hand once they take him into custody to make sure they have the right guy. Or, if like the Kohberger case, they think they know who he is and go through the suspect's trash to get DNA to test to be sure its the same guy.

Do we think it's a good or bad sign that the NYPD declined to comment today?
That's a pretty standard play in investigations like this. They spoke initially, and they did a sit down with CNN a couple days ago, but they've been mostly quiet outside of that. All our information is coming from police sources, and not them directly.

I actually hope we don't see any more releases or press conferences; that would mean they don't need help.

Yeah, I'm more surprised the family hasn't offered anything
It is still early -- five days isn't really much time in a complex investigation like this. Both the corporation and the family may yet add money to the reward. Right now, they may be expecting an arrest sooner than it will actually happen, and should it be delayed then they may up the reward.

People keep talking about this weapon being a device to euthanize animals but I've also heard talk of other types of weapons. But nothing verifying the claim it truly is a device used by vets. I always like to read comments in the news articles that generate a lot of responses and I really like this response from a person who is very familiar with weapons. From a NYPost article dated December 7, 2024

There are two components to suppressing a firearm. The first is to use "quieter" ammunition which is that below about 1000 fps (varies depending on altitude, humidity, etc.) and the second is to "muffle" the burning gas, like with a suppressor.

The suppressor doesn't (typically) slow down a bullet, so if it is super-sonic, it'll still make the "crack" sound. If you use sub-sonic ammunition, you still have the explosive "pop" of gasses as the bullet leaves the barrel.
For a "silenced" firearm, you need sub-sonic ammunition and a suppressor to muffle it.

And sub-sonic ammunition (like 9mm) uses less powder so the bullet flies slower, but this also means reduced power to cycle the action (fling the slide back) so you either "stovepipe" it requiring clearing, or just won't feed the next round. Either way, you cycle the gun to clear and chamber the next round
IMO, the firearm is just a suppressed pistol based on how he clears the malfunctions. Probably a homemade or fuel filter suppressor, which explains the horrible cycling. The way he was clearing the malfunctions by racking the slide are not consistent with the action of the B&T pistol that has been speculated about.

Apologies, it was his two sister-in-laws.

"He was a wonderful person and a wonderful father, and we are heartbroken and shocked.” — Maria Reveiz of Des Moines, sister-in-law

"He was a good person, and I am so sad." — Elena Reveiz of Omaha, Nebraska, sister-in-law, speaking to the New York Times

I'm not suggesting he committed the perfect crime, but he is almost smarter than you're giving him credit for.

How do you know he drank from that bottle, and that it's his?
Similarly, why do you think he used that particular phone (he could have had two and kept the one that touched his face)

I'm very confident he took precautions to avoid leaving DNA behind him. And he is playing with the police.
Sure he took precautions, but he had no chance of being successful. That backpack being left behind for one, and the fact that there is nothing he could do to remove his DNA from a room he stayed in for 10 days.

What I wonder, and I'm sure it's been said but I haven't read every post, is how he was able to be in NYC for a long period of time, over Thanksgiving even, and no one noticed he was gone. Maybe he is a foreign exchange student?

Yikes, I was about to respond to this but got lost in the last thread, so I’m screenshotting.

In my opinion, those who know me well would absolutely recognize me.

My family probably wouldn’t turn me in, but I don’t know what friends, neighbors, colleagues, people who work in stores I frequent etc. would do if they knew I murdered someone (they SHOULD turn me in).

Awhile back someone was pondering if the suspect was actually a pair of twins. This because he looks the same but slightly different in the photos, and because of the many changes of clothes.

I’m convinced it’s just the one guy.

I happen to be an identical twin. If my twin or I had done this, just one of us, the police can still distinguish which one of us was the culprit if fingerprints were discovered.

My sister and I look just alike except to those closest to us, and everyone else gets us confused. However, like all identical twins, we do not have the same fingerprints.

Fingerprints are formed by how the developing baby touches the mother’s womb, and is unique even in identical twins.

Only one person shot BT. On the very, very, very off-chance that there are twins here, the killer could still be identified this way.

true, but how are they gonna find him if the best clue they got is his DNA? seems like they are at the mercy of waiting for a good tip.

This is what I've been wondering the whole time. I still think the most logical explanation is he's a student, his family is not local and they did not expect him to return home for Thanksgiving, and school was on break so it was not abnormal for him to not be on campus.

Yes, I think the timing was planned because BT was in town for the conference, but I can't help but think the 10 whole days (!!) he spent in NYC was planned purposely around a pre-planned break from school wherein him being away would not have been suspicious at all.

his DNA might be in that room but it's mixed in with God knows how much other DNA... it'll take a long time to disentangle that ball of wax.

I agree. There were many schools with breaks and it's not unusual for students to be gone early or later or whatever.

He did stay in a hostel. He could have slept in a homeless shelter, or in a protected corner in the subway, or abandoned building if he was super concerned about DNA. I know it's winter and very cold, but I do think he could have scoped out a spot somewhere. Doesn't seem he was too concerned about DNA (why?), nor about being around people (other than always wearing a mask).

Would anyone be so nice as to tell me the most recent updates on the case?
I decided to took some time for myself and when I popped up here there was 100+ pages worth of reading! I can’t manage that! LMAO

The last I’ve seen, people were arguing on the verbiage of what Mayor Adams had said about having a positive ID of the suspect.

most recent update is they found his backpack in central park. all it contained was a jacket and monopoly money. they saw him boarding a bus that went to atlanta, but he could have gotten off at any stop along the way. also we got new photos from him in a taxi he took after the shooting. that's about it I think.
