Thanks, Arielilane. Great post. Brilliant that LE plans to be searching video from the stations along the Greyhound route to NYC. If he got on the Greyhound bus somewhere between Atlanta and NYC, LE is likely to find him in one of the videos looking the same as when he got off of the bus in NYC and they will have significantly narrowed their search in determining who he is and where he came from.
He spent 10 days in NYC, and it's possible, given the bus route, he spent time in DC. If so, I wonder what he did there.

Excellent post. Very helpful. With all of his careful planning, I've wondered if this guy researched how to obfuscate his fingerprints and planted other people's things (e.g. water bottle in the alley, protein bar wrapper, coat in backpack in CP) with others' DNA and fingerprints to throw LE off-course.

In spite of all of his self-perceived cleverness and extensive planning, I appreciate you reminding us that no matter how careful this guy was, LE has the capability and 20x the usual number of investigators working on this case and they will eventually catch up with this guy.

I did dig around on the net because I was curious too. I found things like glue pads and tape circles to cover your fingertips...etc...
I don't know if they work, but they're out there to buy. I thought it was rather interesting.

yup, I did NOT expect the NYPD to allow him to escape.
Agreed especially so quickly. If their timeline is correct he was potentially out of the city within 45 min of the crime.

I did the same… my Google search history thanks to this case looks interesting to say the least right now. Lol

Here is some info about the B&T Station SIX-9. Its predecessor was the VP9 (VP standing for veterinary pistol). The predecessor to the VP9 however was the WWII era Welrod, a clandestine sidearm associated with covert operations.

Wouldn’t the name be the same as the fake photo ID at the hostel? Thats my guess at least.

Although come to think of it maybe the name isn’t the same? Because it would be fairly easy I’d imagine to search the name on the fake photo ID against the Greyhound records to find out where he bought a ticket and on what route.
I wouldn't be surprised if he had multiple fake IDs, one for each time he needed to show an ID.

My intuition says that the authorities don't have a clue as to the shooter's identity, origins, or current whereabouts, and that Brian Thompson's murder will go down in infamy alongside The Black Dahlia, The Zodiac Killer, and the Tylenol Poisonings as one of America's most notorious cold cases.
The shooter used the most low-tech of methods (paying in cash, traveling by bus, lodging in a hostel, using an e-bike as a getaway vehicle, etc.) to evade and flummox the most high-tech surveillance and detection. He is a real-life will-o'-the-wisp who has vanished back into the ether from which he emerged...
I hope you are wrong.

That said, LE has captured him on some of the thousands of surveillance cameras blanketing Manhattan, allowing police to build a timeline of his movements.

It’s just too perfect.
This is exactly what Ive been thinking lately…it just all worked out too perfectly that I’m having a harder and harder time believing this was an angry/disgruntled customer or employee and not a hired hit…

Just so much planning went into this.. it’s wild.

I was wondering if he took his sheets & towels away with him …. Sheets would be dna goldmine …
he might have brought a sheet or a bivy with him- some people never sleep on hotel sheets either. I am not sure how much transfer he could avoid esp. with hair. He never seems to be wearing gloves but I am not sure if me might have had something on his hands. Or he might have decided he was on a mission, and if caught, well, whatever. IMO.

Up to 14 people in some of the rooms of this specific hostel. View attachment 550224HI New York City Hostel - HI USA
I just checked Hostelworld.com random 2 night stay in Feb 18-20 at this hostel. It's $41(10 bed room) - $55(4 bed room) per night including tax. More expensive the closer you get, and less 4 bed rooms will be available. We still don't know if and how he reserved a space without using a CC. Hostels could be fully booked ahead during high demand times. He planned so much, he had to know he was guaranteed a space somehow.

a short addendum, i'm suspecting a little confusion in our comments, by bolt action firearm, we're considering a bullet system being held in place by the bolt, similar to a rifle action. i just looked, the other method of euthanasia (perhaps you refer to) is "penetrating captive bolt" which seems to drive a bolt as opposed to a bullet. all new to me :) but just thought i'd add this...
Oh yea should have specified. But that was more about what is used and I think that kind of stuff is too granular in a case like this. This isnt going to be unsolved it will probably be over in a week. Too many people interacted with him for him not to be caught. Also bus stations and even some busses have cameras on them so tracking his location wouldn't take long at all. One video from police already said they have his name. This will be over in no time

Followed many cases here over the years. Such a great community!

Not sure if it's my older age, or distrust for official narratives, but I'm seeing this all a bit differently and I'm not certain we'll ever know the truth in this one.

I can't help but think how cool and collected this perp was. I find it hard to believe it's their first time committing an egregious act. The main question is who paid for this?

Disgruntled employee? Distraught family member? Foreign entity? Domestic entity? The conspiracy theorist inside me looks at the complex picture this single act paints and the questions born from it.

Is it an attack on health care as a whole? Public sentiment coming out of this is showing a move towards Medicare for all or a single payer system. There's a huge grievance towards the for profit health care industry. Who stands to benefit?

How is it possible that in 2024, a person can travel anonymously using cash? Is this a case that may lead to legislation to close a perceived loophole? Who benefits?

Is an electric bike a motor vehicle? Nobody has an answer for this, and municipalities have struggled with enacting laws. Does this case shine a light on the need for restrictive legislation? Should a plate and registration be required on these bikes, so that a criminal can't travel anonymously?

My opinion- Perp given assignment and plenty of time to plan ahead. Foreign actor traveled to an international airport and met with handler. Received cash and weapon. Boarded bus heading towards NYC.

Arrives NYC. First stop is Hilton then secures room. Following day hits the thrift shop, purchasing used clothing, backpacks, jackets. Spent the next the days making practice runs and making sure to show up all over town wearing different outfits muddying the waters on surveillance images.

Handler makes contact when BT arrives in town. Time for last couple trial runs and final exit strategy. DAY before, perp rents a bicycle from bike shop across the street from hostel. Bike is secured and battery removed.

Morning of, perp gets out early. Rides bike to 6th Ave and secures it. Continues on foot pacing by Hilton. Took a stroll inside sub station as a red herring. Ordered Starbucks, and calmly strolled back towards Hilton.

Discarded water bottle or coffee cup in trash pile as they are confident that DNA cannot be traced back to them. Minutes later received call from handler that BT was on the move along with what he was wearing.

Perp makes contact, briefly follows, takes position and fires first shot striking BT in calf. Why not one shot to the head? Instructed to fire more than once due to shell casing messaging. Fires multiple shots, calm, despite apparent malfunction.

Was handler in SUV? Perp continues, discarding phone and putting a hat on. Retrieves bike and cruises towards park. Discards back pack in park along with outer jacket and monopoly money. Rides out, catches cab and heads to bus station.

Bus station doesn't lead to Atlanta, yet investigation thinks they returned south. My opinion, they took bus to Niagara Falls. Discarded firearm there, and proceeded into Canada. Either still there, or secured flight to home country before NYPD could piece together the photo collage he provided from 10 days of travel.

I'm not certain we'll ever get the real story here. What i am certain of, Americans are disillusioned with the current state of health care, and some entity is going to pass laws for our own safety that keep better tabs on our travel itineraries.
LE and FBI have not released information they have. They keep it close to the vest. I have no doubt they will capture him.

The mayor has since walked that back.

I didn't believe it when he said it, but even if he knew, he should not have said it.

With your math, it does look like he showed up at the last minute. Creating a bill for 200.00 a night.
Hmmm.......

I still cannot figure how he was allowed to escape from NY city: they have cameras on every corner for goodness sake---they tracked him here, they tracked him there, and then they lost him!!! SMH

My guess, he has 3-4 fake ID'S. And he definitely couldn't use the one he checked into the hostel with. M00

Yes, it is different. There is a huge difference between an annual shareholder’s meeting and an investor conference. The United Healthcare team was not trying to “solicit shares” or do anything that would cause current shareholders to lose money or value. Pretty much every publicly traded company holds investor conferences to try to interest investors.

Selling existing company-held shares to institutional investors does not upset current shareholders, as the company is not creating new shares. They are selling existing shares held by the corporation. it happens all the time. It’s not a “bad look”.

Jmo

I think NASDAQ/NYSE disagrees - which is why they are required to do such things as notify NYSE if there is insider sell-off - or meetings with the public involving investment.

The big difference is that when I buy shares unsolicited, it is marked by my brokerage (which is one of the big, compliant ones).

Soliciting shares is under constant review by court. A powerpoint can make it solicitation, if it contains certain (possibly unverified) facts about earnings.

You yourself admit they are "trying to interest investors." I translate that as "trying to sell them shares." They aren't trying to sell t-shirt (although they probably do).

This is about what the attendees are told, and surely, attendees are interested in buying - do you disagree? You think people just show up at an event like this, kind of random-like? Who are these interested institutional investors of which you speak?

At any rate, the announcement of where and when such a thing is held is supposed to be public. Not necessarily press release, but certain compliant with the rules of public trading.

I'm not speaking about methods of selling shares.

I am saying that this particular meeting was not secret.

If it was closed in some sense to regular investors, they still had ways to find out about it. This is something that is probably best researched on our own - but I am convinced that this particular meeting (a chance to sell shares - you can disagree - was for potential investors).

Someone (or many people) knew about it and disapproved.

IMO.

He had left the city within the hour. The tracking came after.
