I still cannot figure how he was allowed to escape from NY city: they have cameras on every corner for goodness sake---they tracked him here, they tracked him there, and then they lost him!!! SMH
I think he was out of the city before they knew who they were looking for. Even if they had an idea of who it was let's say within 15 minutes, they would still have to track down the footage and if he was at the train station 45 minutes after, he could have been on a bus out of there before they tracked him that far.

What if -- since DNA keeps coming up -- what if the shooter has gone through very successful gender reassignment, so that the DNA that is recoverable is not representative of the person people see in the photos and videos? If the DNA return is for a female instead of for a male, what is the percentage chance that returned information would be ignored or discounted? They would assume they pulled the wrong water bottle or the wrong coffee cup from the trash, for example.

Wow really, again catching up, he looks very happy in the smile pics are they from the hostel?
Indeed, he/she was asked to lower the mask in order to confirm the photo that was on the ID shown at check in was indeed the person standing there at the check in desk.

So I guess the eBike hasn't been located yet?

I just checked Hostelworld.com random 2 night stay in Feb 18-20 at this hostel. It's $41(10 bed room) - $55(4 bed room) per night including tax. More expensive the closer you get, and less 4 bed rooms will be available. We still don't know if and how he reserved a space without using a CC. Hostels could be fully booked ahead during high demand times. He planned so much, he had to know he was guaranteed a space somehow.
One option I can think of is someone buying a prepaid credit card for him. There are no credit checks and no identification is needed to purchase one in many countries, and then the card can be given to someone else to use. Another option, does this chain of hostels accept gift cards similar to One4All as a payment method? Lots of gift cards do not require ID or any personal info to get one either, and they can be used online.

that makes sense

Wouldn’t the name be the same as the fake photo ID at the hostel? Thats my guess at least.

Although come to think of it maybe the name isn’t the same? Because it would be fairly easy I’d imagine to search the name on the fake photo ID against the Greyhound records to find out where he bought a ticket and on what route.
Wondering if he had multiple fake photo IDs so that he traveled under another name on the Greyhound bus trip coming north.

Do you all think he would have anticipated that LE might find a video of him arriving at the bus station in NYC 10 days prior to this murder? If he didn't think this would happen, he may not have been as careful prior to his arrival in NYC.

But, it's possible that he anticipated this possibility and may have covered his tracks by getting on that Greyhound bus at a stop that wasn't near where he lived and taken another mode of transporation (e.g. Amtrak) to get to where he picked up the Greyhound bus.

Starting to wonder if this is a tactic police use. Telling the public they have no idea where he went might cause him to say ok I lost them I can slow down for a day. Mean while they were always on his heels. The police won’t release everything they have because then he could stay one step ahead just by watching news.

The Associated Press has summarized a timeline of events. It does not nearly include everything but may be helpful to those who are just now following the details of this case.

A timeline of the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson and search for his killer

I would be VERY surprised if 9mm ammo was used to euthanize animals. if you had to do it to a small animal it would ruin the body. like in a really bad way. Even cattle are killed by a bolt that retracts back into the gun. Plus the cost of the ammunition vs other more humane methods is just way too much.

My guess, he has 3-4 fake ID'S. And he definitely couldn't use the one he checked into the hostel with. M00

Ooh, this is such an interesting topic.

So he's in NJ for a family Thanksgiving and then hangs around until the murder. He somehow (coincidentally? I think not) has a fake NJ ID. That can mean many things. Stole a cousin or brother's ID? Went with some NJ BC to get a new ID?

He had time, I think to do some of this. Then checks into hostel with fake ID. Possibly buys or rents (not from Citi) an e-bike (or hotwires one or buys one).
hin
May be using another ID for bus and plane travel (maybe his actual ID, maybe another fake ID).

While I would think that the name used to register at the hostel was the same as on the fake ID (I think that's been reported, not sure enough, so IMO)...that would provide a short but ultimately not-useful sense of who he really is.

I agree entirely that he probably has several fake ID's. The ease that many ordinary citizens show of gliding into someone else's ID (borrowing a DL, for example, for less nefarious purposes) makes me think he may have exploited the timeframes allowed to flag fake NJ ID-holders.

Just a thought. Just an opinion. Based in some forensic work on fake ID's vs. DNA.

It all happened too quickly, is my view.

Yeah, there are cameras, but there aren't 24/7 monitors of every frame and no one had any idea what he looked like until after the first footage!

He was gone swiftly. BT was dead by 7 am. News didn't break until later and didn't go regional for at least a couple of hours (or national for longer than that).

He knew this, IMO.

I can't use the words "lost him" for the police, because they have done such a good job with footage and so forth, so far.

IMO.

I'm shocked they did it so fast.

NYPD didn't lose him, but, rather, he had a good head start.

If he crossed into Canada I think we would know.

He’d have to clear customs, remove his mask, passport would be recorded. Border Agents would be on alert very quickly.

How is he living? Where is his money coming from? How is he accessing it?

If he had fled the country I think LE would know that.

IMO he’s still in the US. I honestly don’t think his mission is over. I’m concerned about more murders or at the very least, attempted murders.

This guy is an adrenaline junkie. He’s enjoying the attention and notoriety.

He’s not finished yet.

What would have alerted border agents? He’d have crossed on Wednesday evening and his face wasn’t known for days. It took days to find link him to the hostel and then find that footage. His name is almost definitely still unknown – there’d have been no need for today’s release of extra photographs if police already knew his identity.

he could have booked the stay under a fake identity (fake, limited credit card?) He signed in with his fake NJ license.

I'm guessing he was prepared with more than one fake ID. And since they are fake instead of stolen, I'm curious what names and addresses he picked (or was given).

He was gone before they even knew who they were looking for. They didn’t lose him because they never had him to begin with.

They tracked him after the fact. Everything they tracked happened before the murder. Then after the murder we start seeing the tracking immediately before and after the murder.

They’re doing a bang up job. They’ll get him.

I've been saying the same thing, at home, esp since there are statements circulating on the internet that claim to be from pediatricians disgruntled at lack of coverage for the kids they care for. These are anonymous and the result of my own research, so mods may take this down.

But it did occur to me that if this perp was a doctor, things might play out differently for him, when captured. That's why I was asking yesterday if this guy appears to be college age or doctor age to WSers.

I think he looks more grad student/doctor aged. Just my opinion!
