Again I have to wonder why in the ever loving heck would the most sought after fugitive right now walk into a McDonalds of all places???? Makes no sense to me unless they want to be seen. JMO

It would have perhaps been preferable for his purposes to travel by car, and then bike, rather than using buses and taxis. I think it's likely he didn't have access to a car, so might have already moved abroad prior to the killing, then traveled back for the killing. His personal circle then would think he wasn't even in the country, if they thought they recognized him. Just a theory.
Good point re traveling by car perhaps being more preferable for his purpuses. He could have purchased a used car with cash. But, at least 4 problems with this idea: 1) if the car and plates are connected to him, LE would put out an alert for that car & those plates and if he stayed with the car, it'd be harder to hid; 2) the car would need to be reliable and so it might have cost more than he wanted to pay; 3) he could get away from the murder scene far faster on a bike; 4) he needed to drop at least the backpack in CP and parking might have been an issue.

John Miller on CNN:

An employee looks at this person in Mcdonalds and she believes he resembles the photos that have been put out. She calls 911. Police engage man and that's when they found all that stuff on him. One of the ID's matches the NJ drivers license name. Documents that seem to be relevant to this case. Would stop short of calling it a "manifesto." Carrying documents that may relate to motive.
Watching (my boyfriend) John Miller right now.

Sounds like this really is it, God willing.

His taste for McDonalds being what brings him down would be magnificent.
Hope the Mcdonalds employee who notified LE gets all the reward money.

I do give kudos to the NYPD, if this is the suspect, because tracking the gunman and publishing the photos is what led to this.

Praying this is over now.

The 26-year-old was picked up at a McDonald’s in Altoona after an employee thought he looked like the man in New York Police Department photos and called police, the sources said. Among his fake IDs is one NYPD believes was used by the killing suspect in New York.
Ha! Right in the 24-26 age range many of us thought.

I think if it wasn't for the silencer he'd have a lot harder time getting away. If everyone around heard a loud gunshot, they'd be much more inclined to be on the lookout for suspicious activity. Just my opinion though.
I think it would have worked in his favour because more people would have fled at the sound of shooting.

I wonder if the suspect was wearing a mask at the McDonalds and it made him look suspicious?

In my experience, in 2024, wearing a medical mask is much more common in large coastal cities than it is in smaller interior towns.
And, in a way, he's more recognizable now WITH the mask.

The NYC perp was last seen entering GWB on Dec. 4, about 7:30 am.

Sort of hard to understand why 5 days later he is on a bus through central PA, only 270 miles from NYC.

If he had taken the one of the NJ buses that day, he could have been in Altuna by dinnertime. He could also have been on a plane to LA or Paris, or Toronto, although those would all likely require a debit or credit card for payment and a cash purchase of a ticket like that would be very unusual.

So where was he for 5 days, as the manhunt spread out?

I surely do hope this is the guy and the FBI gets their man, and answers to all the questions about the murder.
For 5 days he was scouting out his next victim in Altoona, PA .....imo

Don't forget he had a weapon on him too.
Agree. Seems like a really bad idea and doesn't fit with the seemingly good planning he'd done in NYC.

I think it was a scheduled bus stop. He has to eat, no choice but where the bus stops.

Just a hunch, not fact.

the only thing i can think of would be if he tried paying with a check...lol

NYT reported that an older patron at a McDonald’s noticed the person who looked like the suspect. So this didn’t mean the suspect was asked to show his ID cards to anyone at McDonald’s, the phrasing is meant to indicate he was identified at a McDonald’s by an eyewitness who reached out to authorities with a tip

He seemed meticulous in his planning. Did a great job of quickly getting out of NYC. Then it all fell apart. Did he have help planning but they dropped him as soon as the task was done? His post murder moves all seem REALLY dumb.

Most states in the US do not register guns to owners. New York does, but most do not. PA does not register guns. This kind of gun was sold legally, and although very expensive, there are undoubtedly buyers who would buy it for its collector appeal. In most handgun sales in the US, a Federal Form 4473 is filled out, and a background check performed. The dealer must retain the 4473. My guess is that there has been a search for sales of the B&T pistol, and a dealer identified a buyer. This person could be innocent, though.

If this is an individual who has been stopped by police, and the unusual pistol found on his person or on his belongings, that's a different story.
It's an NFA weapon (or a separate silencer is) so if it were ever legal there is a Federal record of it.

Being on a bus at this point was not smart. JMO.
true...but flying and stealing a car would've been even riskier. i think the only other option would've been Amtrak but that's basically the same as the bus, he could've just as easily been identified.

For crying out loud, if he couldn't part with his expensive weapon, then bury it somewhere and return to retrieve it 6 months from now. Big mistake...Huge !

More:

Working off a tip, police stopped a person travelling by bus in Altoona, 276 miles west of New York City.

The person walked into a McDonald's where a witness recognized him from the images police had circulated, sources said. Altoona police were called and they came to get him.

The person was found with a fake New Jersey driver's license, like the one the NYPD has said the suspect used to check in at the Manhattan hostel.

Altoona police also recovered a computer and a gun similar to the one used in the assassination-style killing, sources said

The NYPD is sending detectives to Altoon

Either the suspect is beyond dumb (which is the most likely possibility MOO), or he was holding onto the gun and fake IDs because he had other 'targets' in his crosshairs. If it is the latter, I'm sure a search of the computer found in his possession will reveal what the next step(s) in his 'plan' was.

If a person in Altoona is the same guy who shot BT, it doesn't make sense to me that he was still carrying the gun 5 days after.

Unless,
1. the person they got is decoy and they tipped him to confuse the investigation.
2. The guy is not as clever as everyone thought or he didn't care if he got caught. Or both.
Or he's just some fantasist who thinks he's cleaverer than Einstein and won't ever get caught.
