Look at the pictures when he shot it. No one in law enforcement was able to ID the gun from the pictures. There is a reason why.
The previous reports were that the murder weapon was a converted WW2 gun that is used for executing horses/livestock

I understand his friend in Hawaii has been discussing the back problems LM was having.
Pain, interference with intimacy and so on. We’ve all seen the back X-ray that may be of LM’s back.

Not saying it’s not true, but I wonder if he was still at this high pain level.

From what we see in NYC, he has this large backpack on his back, he’s bicycling all around, he’s traveling on buses and so on. When my back hurts I can’t do any of those things.

He’s young, I understand that—-but so far he’s been young all his life, and yet his back seems to have been a terrible problem. Enough that many posters have suggested he intentionally aimed at BT’s back.

So I’m wondering—-was he still in pain and that was his issue with health insurance, or was he much better yet still determined to carry out this murder?

JMO
I noticed a possible very slight limp in one of the early videos from before the shooting.

It comes down to this and perhaps a type of confusion surrounding dating in general... imo, total speculation.
'He knew that dating and being physically intimate with his back condition wasn’t possible,' Mr Martin told The Times''
Stressed enough to wet his britches. Anybody find his inmate booking info?

The medical condition the article says he has, spondylolisthesis, is linked to urinary incontinence.

Has the reddit account being quoted in the article been approved / discussed yet? I'm still catching up in thread #7, and didn't want to mention things in it if hasn't been yet.

CNN legal expert on his reaction:

Very disturbing. Not normal. Defense will have to get him evaluated.

Thomas M. Dickey, a lawyer based in Altoona, Pa., says that he is representing the man charged in New York with murdering the UnitedHealthcare chief executive last week. Dickey declined to comment further as he walked into the courtroom where his client is about to face an extradition hearing.

It’s not yer clear whether the lawyer is just representing the suspect in the extradition hearing, or if he will continue to represent him as the murder case proceeds. Dickey declined to say whether he had been court-appointed or was retained privately.

Hmm ... that was intense. Radical dude.

Must stay tuned for the exit.

Then still not accurate. He did not mean to shoot him in the leg and then the back to make sure the CEO was in pain. He was trying to use an untraceable gun that was inaccurate.

I'm assuming this lawyer wasn't selected by the family?

Wow! Did you guys see that on Reuters Live a few seconds ago? The police delivered him to court just now and he turned and yelled something loudly, sort of pushing away from officers, bellowing something about "injustice in the system and this being an insult to the intelligence of the American People."
I cannot get the full message, something about this is insulting the intelligence of the American People and their experience. I am so bad at these things. Hope somebody got the full message and can post it here.

@cathyrusson

The charge, as of now, is Murder in the Second Degree (with intent...).

See link for description see image for charges: https://nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/PEN/125.25

Could be an act so he gets to serve any sentence in a mental hospital as opposed to supermax jail, act unhinged, plead guilty to manslaughter at murder trial……

Holy crap!! What did he shout? An insult to the American people?
This case is going to become a major drama.

Just caught “an insult to the intelligence of the American people…”

I have not yet been verified (info sent), but I have been practicing criminal law in the tri-state area for over six years.

In short, PL 125.25 (second degree murder) blanket covers the intentional killing of another. It is more commonly used than PL 125.26 (aggravated murder) and 125.27 (first degree murder). PL 125.27 also covers intentional killings, but it requires some other special circumstance to be present (such as the victim being LE, a judge, firefighter, etc.; felony murder; contract killing; etc.). Aggravated murder is an intentional killing of a specific type of victim (LE, fire, etc.), but the statute significantly overlaps with first degree murder. 125.27 is about special circumstances, and 125.26 is specifically about the victim.

125.25, 125.26, and 125.27 are all A-I felonies with similar penalties.
Thank you for explaining this. Would his 'laying in wait" for him victim impact his charges somehow?

IMO it may be that he selected what he used because it had a pattern available to print, rather than for avoiding the automated shot detection system as we were guessing earlier. The pattern may have been available because someone made it out of nostalgia and/or because they were a history buff.

Amazing he managed to stay 10 days at a hostel without lashing out and being angry at anyone. Now he's the angry guy because he's caught.

I understand the average american not being able to afford healthcare. It's a travesty.
What I can't understand is the fact that he comes from an VERY wealthy family who most likely would be able to pay for the surgery for their son out of pocket if need be. This is not your average American family....IMO

We can't sleuth his family, but I don't think they were *that* wealthy (at least not by the standards of the richest people in MD nor NY nor CA or any other high CoL place.

It is my impression that his family has gone public about their own medical issues and inability to pay for two members' bills. His family owns a funeral home; his closest relatives have jobs - well paid jobs, but still jobs that require a lot of hard work (medical doctor, for example).

I'll report my own post to make sure this link is okay.

Luigi Mangione extradition hearing scheduled for 1:30ET. We'll find out how quickly this process will move to get him transported back to NYC to face a judge. I'll be inside the courtroom again to provide color since there are no cameras allowed.

Mangione has arrived at the courthouse for his extradition hearing. When being escorted inside, he yelled something about "injustice in the system." Hearing should begin shortly.

What we heard after playing it back: "It's completley out of touch. It's an insult to the intelligence of the American people.”

I have to put my phone away now for court proceeding. Will work to get video ASAP.

Yes. He’s smart enough to decide that he’s going to act crazy. He’s always planning.

On the contrary, serious pain registers on a person's face and in how they hold their body.
Exactly, there is no "guarding", no protective movement, no avoidance of contact or positions, no involuntary wincing.
