MOO any point this young man was trying to make will not be understandable by anyone because his point is the product of a very disordered mind. MOO We are dealing with a person who is seriously mentally ill.

ETA people who are experiencing psychosis can exhibit erratic physical movements that are outside of their control. So his movements to me don't indicate he fakes having or having had a real spinal injury or condition. IME DM Headline was exactly what I would expect. Meant to grab attention and not based on fact. Headline read "Luigi Mangione's disturbing claim about cruel way his mother made him eat" where the article reads: Her recalled how his mother Kathleen Zannino Mangione made him eat steak with his right hand 'out of adherence to social norms.' which says nothing about complaining or cruelty.

Do I hope Mr. Mangione receives consequences for taking a life? Absolutely, he should be tried for murder. But IMO he is no narcissist, no hero, no villain, none of those things. He is IMO most likely severely mentally ill and not a safe person to be in society. Just as I didn't think to myself "Good serves him right" when Brian Thompson was murdered, so will I not create a super villain out of a man I think is very ill and a danger to himself and others.
Psychiatric deterioration is fascinating to me. As more information comes to light, my theories about his mental state continue to evolve. With schizophrenia, there is often a prodromal period of a year or so where someone withdraws. It can look like, and is often mistaken for, depression. His online posts about brain fog, his ghosting the friend getting married - that could all be part of a prodrome. I would ordinarily consider a crime with this much planning and detail to be beyond the capacity of someone with acute psychosis. However, patients with high IQs or high levels of cognitive reserve, are often able to mask their symptoms and function for longer.

I’m shaking my head in here a lot this morning. Luigi Mangione gunned down a man in cold blood. Some of y’all seem to think he had it coming. Should we start assassinating government officials that pass laws that we consider harmful? Bank CEOs if they foreclose on a home because a person lost their job and can’t pay the mortgage? Can we execute those who do us harm, as long as we have a reason? When did lawlessness become acceptable?

I saw some photos of LM in Japan, taken this year. While it was said that he declined a hiking excursion, he was able to participate in the other activities. If he was driven to murder, I don’t believe it was due to his pain level.
Watching MSNBC right now and Andrea Mitchell talking about his severe back pain. I can see now this back issue will be part of his defense----

I know nothing about guns in general or 3D printed gun's in specific. Arresting officers described the weapon as having "a metal slide and a plastic handle with a metal threaded barrel."

The 3D printed gun that Mangione used/built is called the Chairmanwon V1, the moniker is chilling. Source: UnitedHealthcare Shooting Person of Interest Had 3D Printed Glock

As I understand, 3D printed parts are; handle, trigger-guard and area holding the barrel (all plastic with no moving parts). Once the frame has been printed, the metal gun parts (barrel, trigger, firing assembly, etc) are acquired and gun assembled. In this case, a 3D printed suppressor was added.

Question: Why wouldn't the gun barrel, trigger or firing assembly have identifying manufacturer numbers to track purchase/sale? Or, are these parts made on the black market?

Gosh this one has me somewhat ambivalent.
On one hand I am and always will be a huge supporter of the law and LE and I am applauding them for apprehending so quickly, however on another hand I am a smidge disappointed. I can understand that this might be taboo and rub some here the wrong way and I mean no disrespect, but I am not totally surprised at the mass public reaction to this whole circus. On one hand I believe that nobody has the right to take the life of another and if they do they must face the consequences, but on another hand the whole healthcare "murdering by proxy" "eat the rich" etc... stuff is just so in your face it's hard to ignore and easy to understand. Look around both online and in your daily life and you will immediately come across someone who either them self or a loved one has been impacted by greedy healthcare issues. It's such a big issue and I hate to say it but this sort of thing was gonna happen eventually. Not just the alleged perp here but PEOPLE on a whole have had enough. Sure they don't all go out and commit murder thankfully (although many do resort to crime as a result) but it's not a surprise here that someone got pushed to the end of their own personal tether over it and took the most extreme measures.
Ugh I don't know, I just kinda get it and I hate that I feel that way. That said, I agree with the law and whatever the law hands to LM. I also agree with the people who aren't entirely condemning the act of "fighting back".
I am however hoping that this doesn't lead to any copycat attempts as not only is that wrong as a whole, unintended targets could get caught in the crossfire

Ultimately though my heart is with all the members of BT's family and friends... As well as those of LM and I'm sorry, but also LM himself... Also each and every single person who has been done over by healthcare companies... patients, staff and medical professionals alike.

Sorry if my own opinions here offend anybody, I'm struggling as I've not been this conflicted before and feel like a huge hypocrite <3
I came across this last night. It's a twitter comment from the suspect that links to an essay he wrote in 2014, at the age of 16.

I wonder whether he became permanently stuck on this idea. That is, does he believe that the global community is ready for another upheaval where the ideology of the few at the top should be replaced with something that better addresses the needs of the masses. Something to think about ...

In his linked essay, he concludes:

"In the turbulent times of ancient Rome, the intentions of Paganism became distorted and thus unappealing to many Romans. Paganism became simply political propaganda and means of patrician benefits, and thus only applicable to upper class Rome. The great majority of Rome, however, suffered poverty and oppression; and, therefore they sought other forms of religion. During this time, a plethora of religions and mystery cults emerged. Due to its strong sense of morality, guaranteed justice, close community, and promised afterlife, Christianity appealed to the lower classes of Rome, who no longer felt a connection to Paganism. In first century Rome, the aristocracy, who mainly practiced Paganism, stood a minimal percentage of the population. The lower classes, however, composed nearly all of the population. Thus, in spite of Paganism’s long reign, Christianity was able to rise from the midst.

Christianity can arguably been seen as the most influential religion in history. During the Middle Ages, Christianity was the supreme authority and funded the arts, determined education, and drove society in any direction it pleased, ultimately determining the mentality of modern European civilization. Today 2.2 billion people in the world are Christian, comprising 32% of the population of the world. Christianity stands the most populous religion in the world, with the next most populous religion being Islam which makes up just 23% of the world population. Christianity can arguably been seen as the most influential religion in history, and had it not succeeded, the course of the world would have been altered drastically."

That's what's confusing to me - if the reddit posts are to be believed, it sounds like the surgery went great for him and he was even encouraging other people to get it so I'm not sure what his issue was
Maybe the surgery was a success initially, but then he deteriorated again over the last year or so? Just speculating.

Luigi Mangione‘s fingerprints match those found on a KIND snack bar and a water bottle near the scene of the Manhattan shooting of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO, law enforcement sources said.

The prints mark the first forensic connection between Mangione and evidence. Investigators are still trying to match Mangione’s prints to those found on the gun used in the fatal shooting of Brian Thompson, which was found on the suspected killer when he was arrested Monday in Pennsylvania.

So confusing. Fingerprints are not something you overlook if you don't want to be identified. It is possible he wanted to be identified, but not captured, a 'hero' on the run. But if that was the case, he would have had a pretty good disguise. I just don't get what his plans were.

The fact that LM stayed in the northeast and made no attempt to disguise himself still baffles me. 5 days - take the bus to Little Rock, Omaha or Des Moines. Get a job using your real identity for a while, lay low and reinsert yourself into society. Massive blunder to stay in the NE still wearing the same mask etc. Would love to know if he had seen the released pictures of himself from CCTV around NYC.

Thanks for posting. With LM's seemingly careful planning and with there being so many ways to obfuscate one's fingerprints, it's surprising to me that he left fingerprints.

The United States is the only developed country in the world that doesn't recognize health care as a basic human right. We need to fix that and we can.

YES!

I do NOT condone shooting the CEO, but I do understand WHY many people are upset with the state of our healthcare and insurance is a profit over people trillion dollar business.

Thanks for the update.

This is good news !
It places LM at the scene.
His defense atty. can't deny that at least.

It sounds like the lawyer is already preparing a, 'LM didn't kill Brian Thompson' defense.
Imo.

The "McDonalds story" has been corroborated by many people. Someone simply recognized him.

I'll be curious if any at McDonald's will receive the tip money.

All LM had to do was the wear surgical gloves.
Or the blue or black ones that mechanics sometimes wear, to do the messy work on car engines ?
Omo.

I guess he didn't plan on them finding those items.

Deputies recovered a video showing where those items were discarded, and both were collected as evidence.

I have wondered if our dude had some degree of somatic preoccupation. He told his friend in Hawaii that his back pain/misalignment of his spine began in 'childhood.' Then he fretted about having serious 'brain fog after he had attended a frat party during college. Then came Lyme disease and IBS.

He reminds me of people who frequent doctor's offices with a laundry list of complaints yet rarely take their doctor's advice.

Just something I thought about lately and I'm probably wrong.
That's an interesiting thought. He also mentioned he was experiencing the cognitive decline since he was 15. Sounded like he was also giving advice on steriod stacking but I could be wrong. He seemed to have a lot of physical and mental issues per his reddit history imo

thank you for articulating what I have been thinking about this person. While many experiencing a stage of psychosis may believe they are receiving messages from angels or God and dive head first into religion (ala my aunt who ran off to join the moonies during an episode), IMO those with especially high IQs or otherwise exceptionally gifted end up diving into an odd combo of tech and social conspiracies (ala the unibomber). And yes, I think those people are particularly adept at making the severity of their symptoms for longer than those who may not be so blessed.

Watching MSNBC right now and Andrea Mitchell talking about his severe back pain. I can see now this back issue will be part of his defense----

For the lawyers on board:

If the defense seeks to use his medical / surgical issues as a defense, would this then make his HIPPA rights void, and allow the prosecution to also examine his medical/surgical records?

Picking and choosing this information could be very contentious.

Thanks for the link !

Re-watching his outburst -- LM jumps up a bit into the air and rears his head and shoulders forward whilst yelling, as he's taken into the building.

Even with his spinal pain, aka his ankylosing spondylitis (I've also seen the 'spondy' spelled as 'Spondyethelitis'), he looked like it's not debilitating.
Granted the pain sometimes comes and goes, according to my neighbors' husband; but it sounds like the defense is going to use that as his main prop ?
I wouldn't put it past Luigi to exaggerate his issues.
He's also thrown shade at his mother.
What or whom else is LM going to blame ?
Just pointing that out.
Omo.
The surgery resolved the pain, he said. Within a week, he knew he had made the right choice. This was in the NYT's analysis of his Reddit posts, which were at that point only accessible in a scraped archive. (Never mind, wasn't sure if everyone was caught up)

Agreed. If I were the CEO of Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, etc. i'd be hiding under my bed right now. This is a mind numbing thought process to me.

I am sure they have beefed up their security, at least I hope they have. After the assassination of Brian Thompson, corporate executives need to re-examine their security operations. There are a lot of crazies out there.

Just ran an itinerary on Greyhound from GW Bridge Station in NYC to Omaha - 37hrs. Stops in Newark, Pittsburgh, Dayton, Indy, Chicago etc. etc. Easy.
