or use his McD's wrappers... at what point were they discarded?
Even if they have a DNA sample from the time of his arrest, the prosecutors will want a swab directly from LM. It’s the only way to show with any real certainty that the DNA found on evidence collected matches LM’s DNA.

According to Alex Caprariello's clip [linked above] LM interrupted his attorney [T. Dickey] and his attorney got real sharp with LM and stated no, no, no, dont speak at all!

I suspect, LM, is extremely angry he got caught. moo
I also saw T. Dickey claim they had "bonded" with one another and he was willing to continue representing him in New York. Not sure if he is licensed in New York but could represent him as pro hac vice.

Did he feel somewhat safe in Altoona, or was just so exhausted at this point that he just wanted to shower and sleep but no room was available at the motel?

Was he looking up local criminal defense attorneys on his laptop at the McD just in case? Did he do this wherever he went?

I'm two threads behind, so my apologies if this has already been hashed out (I'm sure it has).

In thinking about what happened to him to provoke this crime, I believe he is a narcissist (not a new theory) who on paper and in pictures was pretty darned perfect. Then he had the back injury but the surgery did not completely fix him. Now he's not perfect. He has chronic pain and some loss of function (per various reports). UHC is responsible for his flaws.

This is all down to narcissistic injury, IMO.

Ok now back to thread 7. :p
I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t even have UHC insurance. His “manifesto” called them out because he thinks they are “largest company in the US by market cap, behind only Apple, Google, Walmart.” And a quick google search would’ve told him this is incorrect.

Want to bet LM is going to refuse a sample being taken from him ?
If the judge rules it, he could be forced to give a swab.

However and imo -- it's a good bet he's going to tie up the court system for some time.
Imo.

do the 3D printing machines have a "cache" like a lot of other machines? maybe a record of the parts printed by whom and when.
Between agreeing with @MassGuy on it is a moot point here and moving on, followed by you chiming in from a different angle @acutename I wondered if this “Ghost Gun” was part of his elementary level efforts to make a point.

I just found this article: (The point I initially was attempting to make is LE has the resources and intelligence to figure it out it and copycats shouldn’t be fooled.)

I expect he will refuse (as is his right), but he will ultimately be compelled to give a swab. He seems like the type to delay his case as much as possible, but we will see.

I would think there has to be digital evidence somewhere. Maybe his IP address where he downloaded the print files. Possibly drivers for the printer, memory cards or flash drives used on the printer. JMO

I, for one, would love him to have a vigorous defense. It is his right because that is how we do it here. Then, I think he will be put away for life which as I see the facts right now is the right thing.

I am not sure he will continue to have so many people back him as I think the mental health issues he has will over shadow his belief about corporate American greed/high pay execs. People will move on from him. However, as the income/wealth gap continues, across the spectrum of people, there will be more and more dissent and calls for change. Personally, I need change in the healthcare realm because I can't afford 10k a year high deductible plans nor can I afford to pay much higher premiums that will still require significant cash outlays. Something has to give. No excuse for murder but certainly a spotlight on the issue. JMHO.

I thought he went off the grid in June 2024? That’s the last time he tweeted and the reports say he was missing for months.
Possible he was off grid in “recovery” of some sort and perhaps the costly recovery not covered …

Hey there,

My theory is either he didn't really expect to get away successfully or that he possibly planned to strike again.

The former is consistent with sloppiness about leaving evidence behind and not making much effort to disguise face when checking in to hostel (why wouldn't he grow beard then shave on day of shooting for example).

Retaining ID and gun would be consistent with the latter, but maybe he wasn't counting on such identifying imagery being available, particularly the smile and taxi shot. He could of had a plan in place but when those images were published realised he was highly likely to be soon identified. In this case there would be no real advantage disposing of these items because if he was identified and questioned he'd likely be caught either way.

On your second point I thought perhaps inside info either from conspirators or compromised email would be necessary, however his manifesto references social engineering so maybe it was as simple as phoning hotels in the area posing as his secretary or something and asking to be put through to BT's room because his phone isn't working. If they complied you'd just hang up and know where he was staying. Not sure this would actually work but it's possible.

I really think, anyone well versed in technology, could easily be able to track BTs locations.
This has already made all high level executives need and will continue to demand much more security going forward.

I can't imagine he transported the gun from Hawaii, as that would involve taking it on a plane. I think he built it somewhere on the mainland after his surgery (likely in Pennsylvania or Maryland). We know he disappeared for a while, so the question is where he disappeared to.
His movements are somehow always shrouded in mystery it seems. Rural PA might be a choice location to do some of his target practice to perfect his gun handling techniques.

I doubt he went home to Maryland after he went radio silent with his folks this year. Most interesting to me though was the People mag article where his mom said he had displayed 'concerning behaviors on several occasions" prior to her reporting him missing.

Suicidal thoughts, perhaps?

Altoona not a transportation hub. Only a handful of Greyhound s schedules accessing it, milk runs from Philly and Pitt, all arriving/departing mid-day.
I’m assuming he was planning on holing up here but there was no room at the Inn? Was he hiding out all Sunday night in near-freezing temps waiting for McD’s to open, providing the basic resources of all desperados; heat, WiFi, washroom and Happy Meals?
(I believe the clutch of fellas nursing their coffee for two hours—a franchise feature—and scrutinizing the customers first grew suspicious wondering, ‘What the heck is he doin’ in here for such a long time?)

No excuse for murder but certainly a spotlight on the issue.
And both of these statements will have their day in court.
In the long run,
I think many of us are going to be thanking him, silently even if we know he is in the right place for the rest of his life.
I think we will all be testing our own moral compass on this.

I wonder how LE tracked LM down to going to the motel since it seems like they are the ones who called the motel asking if he’d stayed there. Unless they just called a bunch of places in the general vicinity

@TheSourceCNN

BREAKING TONIGHT: Luigi Mangione's new defense attorney joins @kaitlancollins as the CEO shooting suspect fights extradition to New York and has an outburst heading into court today.

Watch the interview:

Thanks for the link !

Re-watching his outburst -- LM jumps up a bit into the air and rears his head and shoulders forward whilst yelling, as he's taken into the building.

Even with his spinal pain, aka his ankylosing spondylitis (I've also seen the 'spondy' spelled as 'Spondyethelitis'), he looked like it's not debilitating.
Granted the pain sometimes comes and goes, according to my neighbors' husband; but it sounds like the defense is going to use that as his main prop ?
I wouldn't put it past Luigi to exaggerate his issues.
He's also thrown shade at his mother.
What or whom else is LM going to blame ?
Just pointing that out.
Omo.

i wonder if any other health insurance CEO was going to be in Altoona in the coming week or so?

MOO any point this young man was trying to make will not be understandable by anyone because his point is the product of a very disordered mind. MOO We are dealing with a person who is seriously mentally ill.

ETA people who are experiencing psychosis can exhibit erratic physical movements that are outside of their control. So his movements to me don't indicate he fakes having or having had a real spinal injury or condition. IME DM Headline was exactly what I would expect. Meant to grab attention and not based on fact. Headline read "Luigi Mangione's disturbing claim about cruel way his mother made him eat" where the article reads: Her recalled how his mother Kathleen Zannino Mangione made him eat steak with his right hand 'out of adherence to social norms.' which says nothing about complaining or cruelty.

Do I hope Mr. Mangione receives consequences for taking a life? Absolutely, he should be tried for murder. But IMO he is no narcissist, no hero, no villain, none of those things. He is IMO most likely severely mentally ill and not a safe person to be in society. Just as I didn't think to myself "Good serves him right" when Brian Thompson was murdered, so will I not create a super villain out of a man I think is very ill and a danger to himself and others.
