Posted on X Dec. 10.

@ShannonLillyTV

We’re being met with some hostility as we report live from the Gilman School this morning.

Luigi Mangione graduated at the top of his class from this school in 2016. He is now charged in the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

His family has deep roots in Maryland

I don't understand the logic behind the hostility towards reporters but also do not get the point of reporting from the school he attended when he was a child/teenager. Surely this is just causing inconvenience to the current students who have nothing to do with it? The school might have had thousands of boys attending their courses; its reputation should not be tarnished because one of them turned out to be a killer.

And I wish reporters learned how to pronounce names & surnames before going live. It just comes across as lazy and not having bothered to carry out proper research.

I think it's his real teeth. That image is 5 years old from 2019.

I googled his image. His teeth were like this in HS. I saw one pic where he could have been 10 or younger. He didn't have the eyebrows, but he had the teeth! Looks like he was gonna need some orthodontic work down the road back then.

It was from the London Times, which is a reputable source.

Since he was only 22 year old when that pic was taken, I really can't imagine him "losing his teeth" at such a young age. Especially since his family had the means to afford dental care. I think he just had lots of ortho work.

Veneers go over one's own teeth, so no need for him to lose his teeth for that.

Strange. An accident on July 4, 2023? That would have been at the time of his alleged back surgery!
If he wasn't a fulltime employee, LM may not have insurance coverage as a benefit.

More thoughts.... as the hours since being captured tick by, I wonder if LM feels like it was worth it. How deeply committed is he to his cause? While he may have felt extremely passionate about it up until the shooting, being on the run, once the adrenaline wore off, probably wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

And now, he's had over two days in a small concrete room (minus court appearances)... things start to change. Minutes can feel like hours, hours can feel like days. He doesn't have any choice about what food he gets to eat, or when. He has a very thin mattress to sleep on. Someone else decides when bedtime is and what time he gets up in the morning. He is being watched while he uses the toilet. How does this feel to him?

If we take his beliefs (what we know of them) to their logical conclusion, he decided that giving up all of his freedom and comfort, perhaps for decades if not for life, was worth the cause of beginning to dismantle the for-profit health insurance industry. Will he find that to be something he can hold on to? Will his passion and anger, knowing many people share his grievances, carry him through the long, slow hours of confinement?

Also, he's most likely on some type of suicide watch ?
There are ways he could have worked for change in the institution he railed against, without harming others.

I read upstream that the owners of the apartment that he was renting in Honolulu happened to be in Japan. They said that they did not know who was renting their apartment as it was rented out using a management company. Is it just a coincidence that LM visited Japan??

JMO.
Close connection between Japan and Hawaii. He may have met Japanese contacts in Hawaii.

"No the reality is, these [indecipherable] have simply gotten too powerful, and they continue to abuse our country for immense profit because the American public has allowed them to get away with it."

the missing word in this line is mafiosa

According to a glimpse of the NYPD intelligence analysis report in this video

mafiosi (plural noun, member of a criminal organisation)

I am surprised that an older guy like that would do something so juvenile.
He isn't breaking any laws and the school probably directed him to do his best to make their property an unattractive place for reporters to record/report from. Juvenile yes, but not parasitic like the news media can be when trying to sell their stories and scoop others doing the same.

Gilmore School is not a part of this crime or this story IMO save for the fact that years ago when LM was a minor child he attended the school. Meaning the press is insinuating themselves on and around the property of a place of education that is populated by minor children. I'd want them gone too if I was an administrator or employee of said school. and if I couldn't make them leave, well then good look recording.

Apparently, just a "bean counter" for a major health insurer is as far as LM's thinking got. He also did not think about the devastation that this would have on his own family...or did he?

JMO.

Maybe LM considered this man's life as collateral ?
Cold way to look at it... but then it sounds like Luigi is a very cold person.
Most murderers are.

Yes. I understand. I used to live in Hawaii, and there were lots of Japanese who lived and worked there on Oahu. (In fact, one of my favorite bosses was Mel Yamamoto. One of my favorite co-workers was Kazuo Iwasaki.) :)

The flight between HI and Japan is about 8.5 hours. That's a long flight, even for someone healthy. We flew from TX to Kauai one year. It was about an 8-hour flight. My husband and I really enjoyed the trip, but he said, "Never again!"

Wow, harsh -- Andrew Witty the CEO of the insurer’s parent company, defended its practices in order to “guard against” what he called “unnecessary care in an address to employees just days after the shocking execution of UnitedHealthcare CEO -- Source: UnitedHealth CEO says insurer will continue to prevent ‘unnecessary care’ in leaked video as sick trolls warn, ‘Dude’s next’
Something caught my eye in this video. When the shooter draws his gun to shoot Brian Thompson he looks to be right handed. Didn't he complain about his mother trying to force him to cut his steak with his right hand as if he were left handed? It's about 35 secs in. I guess my point is LE would have noticed if he were left handed in the way he shot the gun and probably that would have shared this during the manhunt. Maybe his drama about his steak and his mother was all made up. JMO

Sharing a Time Line anyone on WS can copy and add to (within and on WS). I have added an observation at the bottom of the post which came as a result of putting the time line together.

Mangione graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020, a Penn spokesperson confirmed to CBS News. He received a Master of Science in engineering with a major in computer and information science, and a Bachelor of Science in engineering, majoring in computer science with a minor in mathematics, the spokesperson confirmed.

What we know about Luigi Mangione, suspect charged in UnitedHealthcare CEO's killing

From January to June 2022, Mangione lived at Surfbreak, a shared penthouse catering to remote workers at the edge of Honolulu tourist mecca Waikiki.

Inside Luigi Mangione's life as a charming tech grad in Hawaii

After Penn he won a job in late 2020 as a developer at TrueCar, a car resale site based in Santa Monica, California, where he worked for the next couple of years.

Then something changed. In 2023 he was laid off, in a year in which TrueCar cut more than 100 workers. In March that year he stopped posting on X for nine months.

Why Luigi Mangione Went Dark in 2023 and Returned Transformed

Kenny told CBS New York that the motive might have been related to an accident that sent Mangione to an emergency room on July 4, 2023.

2024

The Ivy league tech graduate charged with murdering UnitedHealthcare chief executive Brian Thompson in Manhattan made multiple visits to Japan earlier this year, according to those who spoke with the alleged gunman.

During one of his visits on Feb. 25, the suspect, Luigi Mangione, now 26, entered a restaurant in Tokyo where he sat at the counter, according to Obara Jun, a Japanese poker player who saw Mangione struggle with ordering in the restaurant.

———-

An Observation: He may have been in a coverage gap from the time he was laid off until the Accident requiring the ER visit.

Now he has to pay the bills….
You can add that his surgery supposedly took place in June, 2023.

There was an acquaintance of LM who lived in the same high-rise building in Honolulu who said Mangione was working at a place called 'Hub Co-working' which I think was in Nov. and Dec. 2023, but not entirely sure.

Someone waaaay upstream posted a thought on why they believed him to be neither left or right leaning, but in fact, more men's rights or possibly anti women. I'll see if I can find it. Or, maybe the original poster will see this and repost.
It was a UK based journalist that he met in Japan.
Besides the Umabomber review, I really didn't see anything that stood out.

He seemed more "tech-bro" than anything to me based on his twitter.

A lot of left handed people do things right handed. Golf, Bat, Shoot. I'm left handed, but do all those things right handed.

I eat left handed, or at least hold my fork in my left hand.

This is a good article, published today (12/11/24) - featuring messages between LM and a friend in April to June of 2024. They also had video calls. Its quite in-depth, with some already known info, but also new details from this person he was communicating with.

John Miller CNN Live:

Looking for insights when this turn came, that was a turn towards obsession and violence.

November 18, mom reports him missing to San Francisco Police. Last place she knew him to be living. Last time she spoke to him was back in July.

She made multiple calls to his cell phone that ran into his voice mail, which was eventually full.

Called True Car (employer), and that number was disconnected.

Stayed in youth hostel why he was in San Francisco.

Evidence is starting to surround him. Prints match. Gun matches. DNA isn't in yet as far as he knows, but that will be the third piece. Then the video.

I bet he’s suffering from back pain while sleeping on a jail mattress and a metal bed.

Got it. Link to support data point 1:

Martin confirmed that Mangione underwent spinal surgery in 2023 and that when he asked him how it went, his friend simply replied "long story" without elaborating. They had texted in April and discussed catching up on the phone but did not. Martin said he hadn't heard from Mangione since then.

Note: Martin is a friend in HI

Regarding data point 2: Nov/Dec 2023 I can’t find anything. Are you referring to the below?

From January to June 2022, Mangione lived at Surfbreak, a “co-living” space at the edge of touristy Waikīkī in Honolulu. (If there is another article that references a Nov and Dec 2023 event I have not found a link for it.

Same here. I shoot a pistol with my right hand but shoot long guns left-handed.
