Column: The human side of layoffs
After restructuring, companies focus on the positive for investors and shareholders, but the human toll also is important.
I had the same experience as you as a lefty. I was curious about steak etiquette… so I checked out a few articles and it seems that dominant hand rules over left vs.right, at least according to this article. Etiquette Matters When Cutting Steak With A Fork And Knife - Tasting TableObviously, I don't know how old you are, or where you were educated on the early years. But I'm up there, starting school on the mid 50s, but I didn't experience any of the "forcing " that others are stating. I was always pretty ambi, but writing was always lefty. no one ever tried to change me.
He’s a defense attorney. That’s what they do. I kinda like the guy. Smart, confident but regular. His answer to the ever present stupid question how is he doing was perfect. Calmly said..use your imagination. I think he has reciprocity in NY. Maybe he will stay on. Oh,and another thing. When asked if this was his biggest case he said, all my cases are , DUI’s to whatever. All important. Paraphrasing. MOO.LM’s attorney, Dickey, on CNN saying he hasn’t seen any evidence so can’t comment but the evidence will be challenged and his client will “definitely plead not guilty.”
How is he so certain about a NG plea when he hasn’t seen any evidence? I can’t stand when attorneys gaslight people. Like the Shaggy song “It Wasn’t Me…”
Agreed. Ridiculous and so wrong.By all accounts he came from a loving family. They had money but lived modestly. Very low key people. Unlike how they are presented in the news.
Saw the local news in front of Gilman School. It was rather funny. A maintenance man ran a leaf blower behind them so they had to shut it down. He graduated 8 years ago!Kudos to the maintenance man. JMO.
Reporters are showing up his high school, long after he completed high school and 2 university degrees, to stage a report about the shooter. It's theatre, and disruptive to students. They had to shut down the school because of the way he was leaf blowing?
As I understand it, you are given steroids after this type of surgery and that gives you a false sense of healing. I recall my brother being warned by his surgeon that even though he may have felt better, he was not. He was told the steroids would make him think he was better and ready for activity but he could do himself harm if he did not restrain himself and abide by the recovery protocol. He appears to comment about how he was vastly improved after the surgery after a week and was doing well. Poster Jamie737, above, helpfully mentions that even early recovery from this complex and painful surgery takes 6-8 weeks.
He seems to be to be the impatient type, who won't follow orders for rest or rehab, but jumps ahead into activities without proper caution. I would wonder if he actually did some damage or more injury by prematurely returning to activities. All coached by his reliance on posting boards about his disease.
Can a legal expert please explain why LE would be looking into this?A little more information on July 4, 2023.
New York Police Department Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, may have filed an insurance claim for back pain last year.
“So we’re looking into whether or not the insurance industry either denied a claim from him or didn’t help him out to the fullest extent.”
He added that investigators believe Mangione’s injury may have been sustained on July 4, 2023.
Wouldn't they have worn off by the first week? You don't want to get too high of dose because it can slow healing. I believe it's to control the initial inflammation and swelling. I think I got that with my knee. I think it lasted about three days.As I understand it, you are given steroids after this type of surgery and that gives you a false sense of healing. They're not just guessing here; I definitely believe they have information to this effect. It'll be interesting to learn the specifics, and whether it was UHC or another company.A little more information on July 4, 2023.

Not a legal expert, but it would go to motive. Can a legal expert please explain why LE would be looking into this?

I would be rethinking my whole belief system if i were them. Taking a cold, hard look at what one represents can be ego destroying so maybe thats why they dont. I would not be able to look at myself in the mirror if even 1 person died because i chose to deny care in order to line my pockets. (i am not condoning murder. However i do believe that people would not be as outraged about this if LM had murdered someone who was on the fringes of society vs an upper middle class white man) IMHOSadly, this case is going to change nothing in the system. The CEOs are doubling down on security as if that is the issue. They are paid big bucks to think like this? Baffling.
I don't live in the USA, so I'm unclear on this point ... but I understand that some states require that the prosecution presents a motive during murder trial, others do not.Not a legal expert, but it would go to motive.
It's not something that has to be proven in court, but juries like to know that answer.

I don’t even see the back pain as a plausible motive at this point. We don’t have evidence of a “John Q” situation. I think LM went after someone he believed to be a symbol of corruption and greed. Another person posted the pathway to violence graphic a few times. I think the back pain may have been an early, early antecedent, but it got swallowed up in his thought disorder and radicalization. Not a legal expert, but it would go to motive.
