I'm guessing that those customers didn't want to get involved. But apparently the DID recognize him. But, even more important, it WAS him. I don't understand the debate. It WAS him.
I do not see the resemblance. I feel the description was too vague and one cannot be certain with a mask on.

But do you understand how it doesn't matter. They released the photo, someone called and said it might be him, and it WAS him. And the contact was made, he presented false ID first, then admitted it. The arrest follows.

He had to keep removing the mask to eat his hash brown, etc.

Yes, this exactly.

Whether any of us here would have noticed the resemblance is moot, IMO.

Some heroic person in little Altoona Pa. was able to see the resemblance between this guy and the NYC shooter that was all over the news.

That is fortunate for all of us. None of us know if he had a list of other CEOs, or anyone else.

I applaud whomever it was that noticed the resemblance.

As has been said here in NYC ever since 9/11, “if you see something, say something.”

Someone did. Thank God.

Would you mind clarifying? What are you saying does not matter?

I am not convinced that he is the person that killed Brian Thompson; I do not see the resemblance, and even more importantly, there are a variety of due process violations, which gives me reasonable doubt.

A witness ID/resemblance to a photograph is irrelevant if they have other evidence which ties him to the crime. The ID is merely the first step in identifying a suspect. He obviously couldn't be ruled out and had means, motive, and opportunity to commit the crime.

Whether YOU think there is a resemblance or not is irrelevant. It IS the same person. The NYPD had released the photo from the hostel showing the smiling person identified as the shooter. It was this photo that someone in the McDonalds used to identify Luigi in the store. And so the trail of hostel to shooting connects them and then he is found in possession of the gun. So whether we want to say "I don't think that looks like him" isn't relevant to why he was arrested at the McDonalds. Someone else DID think it looked like him.

What are the due process violations?

I am not sure what your response means in regards to what I wrote, but due process is not irrelevant. Our criminal justice system falls apart without due process. Every single person is entitled to due process.

That's nice! I still am not convinced LM is the shooter. I hope you're having a good day.

I think we may be talking passed each other on this. Whether or not LM is the shooter, will be up to a jury to decide ultimately. What is being decided now is whether there is probable cause to arrest/hold him. The chain of evidence from the hostel/shooting scene/ McDonalds is what is in question. I think it is clear the state/US is able to meet that burden at this point.

I wasn't referring to Due Process. I firmly believe that everyone is entitled to it. What I was referring to was your saying that Luigi didn't resemble the photograph that was circulated to identify him. Suspects often change their looks to try to escape. Scott Peterson for example, dyed his hair orange and grew a goatee. He didn't escape justice by doing that, and was still convicted of his crime.

I do not know what you mean when you write, "I think we may be talking passed each other."

You are stating the state is able to meet the burden of proof and I disagree with you.

I am glad we are in agreement about due process.

Thank you for explaining the concept of grooming and disguises, but I want to assure you that I am aware that people committing crimes may alter their appearance to evade detection. As for Luigi Mangione, I am not convinced they identified the correct person. They even had a Luigi Mangione Look-A-Like contest. Luigi Mangione does not look unique. He looks like a lot of Italian guys in my family. Just sharing another perspective for you. Not trying to offend anyone.

I don't think you understand what "due process" means.
In regards to the arrest, do you not think that the government has probable cause to arrest and hold LM at this point? We are not talking about conviction beyond a reasonable doubt, but just probable cause to arrest.

He may not look unique, but I guarantee that they are holding him on far more evidence than a photo ID.
