UPDATE: We have the letters!Luigi’s lawyers say that they “inadvertently did not see” them in the socks and that it was an innocent mistake.“We are rooting for you! Keep your head held high.”

Do NOT ever allow him to wear socks again. Now that we know he uses that as a vehicle to smuggle contraband items.

Get rid of the fashion crim.

Put him in an orange jumpsuit and shower shoes or slippers.

If a member of the fan club was able to access clothing brought in by his lawyers, why isn’t there a huge investigation?

If you can tuck a note, gag, into his socks that are being protected??? Cmon!

Call me a skeptic.
Or they can put him in one of those green suicide smocks.

Just an update on United Health Care from Minnesota. Two days after the shooting UHC erected a temporary fence around the previously open facility. It is now permanent with a guard. AND, UHC is paying the City of Minnetonka (where UHC is located) to patrol their facility. Seems UHC isn't feeling very secure.

Can't say as I blame them . . .

wait, i’m confused about what happened here

supporters put notes in LM’s socks in court? while he had guards around him all the time? or were they planning to do this but he wasn’t wearing socks?

i’m probably misunderstanding the situation, could someone explain?

LM uses socks as a vehicle to smuggle items? His adoring (unhinged) fans do apparently. LM himself is not in a position to smuggle anything into prison. MOO.

I am more curious who Joan is and just how the person who placed the notes into the socks thought "Joan" would get it? Is there a Joan on the defense team? On their staff? Who is Joan that the other note was meant for? Is Joan the person who secreted the notes in the socks and inadvertently stuffed the thank you note meant for her in there with LM's? Is it the Joan who acts as spokesperson for the defense team?

ETA
A second heart-shaped note was addressed to an unknown person named Joan, the filing says. The spokesperson for the defense is named Joan, but it’s unclear whether the note was intended for her. She couldn’t be reached for comment Wednesday.
Hidden heart-shaped notes were found in Luigi Mangione's socks, prosecutors say

okay, i think i get it now!

in case anyone else was wondering..
someone (unclear who exactly) gave the defense team a pair of argyle socks for LM to wear in court
• the socks had cardboard packaging and two notes were hidden between them: one for LM and one for someone named Joan, who is apparently on LM’s defense team
• LM’s defense team apparently doesn’t notice the notes and gives the socks to LM to change into when he’s at the courthouse
• the notes are discovered and the prosecution too is made aware of this at some point
• LM tries on the socks but doesn’t like how they look lol so he doesn’t end up wearing them anyway

the note to LM is signed with r/freeluigi, which is a subreddit dedicated to LM. i took a look at their page and the people there seem pissed that one of them apparently decided to do this, as it seems like it will only be negative for LM for this to happen.

i thought of LM’s support as mostly positive for him, but it seems like it can easily take a negative turn too.

IMO, a jailer neglected their duty.

Where was his concern about Brian Thompson's sons? His wife, parents, and others who loved him?

Spare me, this spin by Mangione and his attorneys is sickening.

talking about LM’s support and public image..

it’s interesting how, from what i can see, a lot of the initial reporting was about how the “mysterious” killer on the run was “uniting the country”, with people from different backgrounds all agreeing that healthcare systems need to change. now it’s much more along the lines of “the coldblooded killer and his googly eyed fangirls”.

what LM symbolises, at least in the media, has definitely changed imo. it would be interesting to see another poll among the general public - especially once the trial kicks off.

Has any person come forward to say they were in a relationship with LM …

There have been “friends”
Complaints to friends about pain & sexual dysfunction and relationships “not possible” which is a bit dramatic, really, considering the many people in relationships where illness, disability is lived.

And now the “fans” and school girl love notes (if this story is actually true and not a PR strategy)

I’m thinking his legal team in leaning into and promoting the virgin heartthrob image because the deranged Ivy League 1%er rich-boy murderer is less sympathetic. IMO

Agreed.

Slow day for NYP.

LM has absolutely no concern for anyone but himself. jmo

A proposed California ballot initiative, named after alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO killer Luigi Mangione has been recently submitted to the California Attorney General’s Office.

The initiative would make it illegal for an insurance company to “delay, deny or modify any medical procedure or medication” suggested by a licensed physician in the Golden State, which could have serious consequences such as “disability, death, amputation, permanent disfigurement, loss or reduction of any bodily function,” the document stated.

@detective.moon Thanks for your post w link & quotes.

Pdf of the initiative *
refers to "any medical procedure or medication recommended by a licensed physician..." bbm
News article**
refers to "any medical procedure or medication suggested by a licensed physician..." bbm

We need our med. professionals and/or insurance professionals for help w terminology on this & other points.

Do physicians transmit, for (pre?) authorization or claim for payment, to med insurers -
suggestions for procedures or medications?
Or recommendations?
Or orders?
Or what?

If it became law, what effect would this proposal have?
Besides med. insurers employing more physicians or engaging them as independent contractors in CA? And increasing cost of doing business in CA, due to paying for legal fees to defend more cases and paying damages to plaintiffs? Charging higher premiums in CA to make up the difference? jmo
Besides ^, IDK, ICBWrong.

Disgusting that they'd name it after a murderer. I think I'll have to vote it down if it makes it onto the ballot.
