I think Luigi's motive was just the thrill of shooting someone. He didn't think he would get caught. He probably planned this for a year or so. Let's shoot someone anonymous and who, in his mind, deserved to be killed...

What about Luigi's decision to execute a 'figure head' of HealthCare in a cold and barbaric way? His own family's generational wealth was acquired by a form of healthcare services, which provided Luigi the very means and opportunities of an overprivileged lifestyle.

If he was truly raging against Capitalism, how is it that he supported and enjoyed the services and goods of some of the most Capital consumerism out there? High dollar education, travel, clothing, backpacks, food services, etc?

LM was not disabled by health issues from denied claims, he was able to move from SF, travel to Hawaii and beyond, hang out surfing, hiking, etc. proudly showing off his well chiseled sick pack abs in his many shirtless SM posts. You don't get or maintain that physique without working out extensively.

IMO, Luigi capitalized on one of the biggest hot topic buttons for fame and notoriety. He had the resources to organize a legal protest/demonstration of our HC system in general. Instead he chose the execution of an innocent 'spoke in the wheel 'of an enormous broken system and the suggestion of a Bill in his name is insulting and disturbing. We don't glorify and honor cold blooded murderers by passing legislation in their name.

JMO
Don't worry, I'm quite sure that CA won't be putting forth this bill with his name on it. Otherwise, as a Democrat, I'll be forced to vote against it.

Like The Graduate for 2024, so privileged, so lost and his life devoid of meaning after stellar Uni degree. Floats around luxury for a while & Instead of taboo of Mrs Robinson …. LM shoots executive.

Today I am musing on the observation that we currently have two very high profile violent cases, featuring Caucasian men, in the latter half of their 20's, both very highly educated. I'm referring to LM and BK (Idaho). Both of them will be spending their summer (at least parts of it) sitting in court, probably wearing a nice shirt, looking fresh and groomed. Aside from their gender, skin tone and levels of education, I wonder what other similarities and difference exist between them. We will learn more as the two trials unfold.

there are hundreds of men in that age group that will be sitting court rooms across the nation for such charges. What is special about these two, other than their cases have garnered more attention?

Luigi Mangione files motion in New York federal case to preclude government prosecution from seeking the death penalty. PDF: https://courthousenews.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/luigi-mangione-preclude-death-penalty.pdf

That's not surprising. Why not try? Unfortunately for LM, just because a motion is filed, that doesn't mean that it will be granted. There are all sorts of motions that attorneys file for their clients that end up being denied by the judge. LM could make up some kind of sob story about how the jail he's in is disgusting and request that a toilet made out of solid gold be installed in his jail cell, but he probably wouldn't get it.

LM is back in court tomorrow but in a Federal court.

Think photos are not allowed, just reporting plus sketch drawings.

Wonder what kind of circus we will see??

No cameras are permitted in a federal courtroom. Thank goodness for small favors. moo ✌️

Is the hearing scheduled for 9 am ET, anyone know? TIA

But unlike his previous appearances — which took place in New York State Supreme Court, where he could be photographed — Mangione will be in federal court on Friday, where photography and video footage are strictly forbidden.

That means the people of the internet don't get the chance to see his appearance themselves this time, relying instead on descriptions from reporters and courtroom sketches. And as a high-profile defendant, Mangione will almost certainly be brought into the courtroom from a vehicle in the building's garage, meaning he won't be seen or photographed by the public.

In both cases the murders were planned for awhile (not impulsive), against specific targets who were strangers to them (though maybe not in their minds, but it wasn't a personal vendetta), and the victims were choosen to guarantee their crimes would get a lot of media attention. Both alleged murderers highly educated yet socially something clearly "off."

Mangione also faces state charges in connection with the shooting. He has pleaded not guilty.
