I suspect the shooter was a relative of a patient who died who blames United Healthcare for denying a service.

Although there is no evidence of that at this time, this is a not uncommon occurrence. Hospital and doctor's office shootings are well documented with similar motives.
Thompson was CEO of the insurance division of United Healthcare, so I think your theory makes the most sense.

I think it’s going to be something along those lines. This person may have been angry with the company, and targeted the head of of the company in order to settle a grudge.

Someone close to him would have probably just hit him in his home state, where it would be much less risky. This person may have known he’d be there thanks to press releases.

It would still probably require advanced surveillance though, and I don’t know how he’d know that this guy would be outside his hotel at this particular time.

The report of the shooter firing from a distance and hitting him multiple times (I am assuming this was a handgun) tells the shooter is trained/experienced with his handgun.

That's an interesting point of view. I was thinking a true hit would be very close range.

Disclosure: I know nothing about how to do a hit.

Just thinking the Minnesota connection - plenty of deer hunters in that state who could hit a target from a distance.

Two avenues..

1. Someone holding United Healthcare responsible for a death and wanted revenge.

2. An investor who feels scammed, duped etc. He was at an investor meeting. Investors and company peeps would know he’d be there.

I’m following the money right now.

Deer hunters could easily do that with a rifle. But I doubt this guy was walking around Manhattan with a rifle, so I assumed it was a handgun. And they are very very different to shoot. Of course we don't know what the reporter meant by "from a distance."

Was there in advance milling around.

Used a silencer.

Used a bike to get away.

Well well well. So definitely a targeted hit. Also sounds like a Pro.

Might be a HIRED targeted hit.

What kind of a gun would that be? It looks big for a handgun but he does have a silencer attached.
It’s so blurry that it’s just impossible to tell. That silencer likely added considerable length to that gun.

You can see that backpack is much longer than usual too. Probably cycled into the alley and quickly put the gun inside.

This guy will show up on video in the days leading up to the conference/meeting. Might even get video of him inside the Hilton.

I can’t imagine he didn’t scope out the area in advance.

That photo just isn't clear enough to make out much. The shooters "grip" is confusing to me.

Pistol w/silencer, the dark/black portion at the end appears to be on the sidewalk maybe a grate.

UnitedHealthcare stock is up about 15% since Jan 1. It's unlikely it's a disgruntled investor.

Maybe that’s why I’m questioning. It looks quite long but obviously the silencer is adding to the length. It just looks strange.
