I'm inclined to agree. With how intentional this murder was, I just lean towards all of his steps were planned out. Of course, I could be totally wrong.

If this guy has a grudge against UHC and its top executives, he might have others on his list, too. Who knows? It could end up being like the Eric Williams' case in Texas. However, he made a list and murdered those on his list at their homes or close to their homes. On This Day 10 Years Ago, a Disgraced East Texas Judge Began His Killing Spree

That makes me think that this was really planned. Why HIM? I just think that the guy was hired and the person who had the actual grudge/motive didn't commit the crime. Yes - My only experience is what I see on television! Most of my life is spent in a bubble!

That’s a very solid point and likely just one of the many reasons NYPD is taking this crime so seriously. I worked in a customer service call center for Blue Cross Blue Shield for three years. It was a very difficult job because I had to listen to angry clients yell and berate me for 8 hours a day. I hated it so much that I would cry getting ready for work, but I couldn’t afford to quit because this was at the height of the recession. Callers threatened me all the time — even though I was a mere customer service rep who had no control over whether a medical service was covered. It wasn’t just patients either. Medical facilities that were denied payment also joined in on the “you people are so [fill in the expletive + unflattering adjective]” fun. Bomb threats were not an uncommon occurrence. It was company policy that we could only give callers our first name and our employee ID, and that policy existed for good reason. If this is a disgruntled UnitedHealthcare client, I pray to everything that is holy that he doesn’t have a list.

Did I miss something about the e-bike? He's apparently carrying an e-bike battery earlier but they think/know he took a citibike to leave the crime scene. Was the citibike a back up plan?

Thinking about this post a bit more...

What company provides health coverage to NYC police? To police in surrounding areas? To the military?

I still find this case too messy. Too many things dropped to be likely police or military.
I've already said here that I have a feeling that whoever did this WANTS to be caught, albeit after a long, convoluted goose chase.

Good question. Although I would disagree that the event had been 'publicized'. The people invited to these investor days are typically working for the large, prestigious brokerage firms. And they would hear about it through their job.

Regarding the 'walking solo to the event', I would love to know more.
We don't know where BT was staying the previous evening. Was it at the Hilton? Did he go out for walk? Was he staying somewhere more prestigious and got dropped off nearby by a 'driver' that morning to attend the meeting? How did the shooter know he would be approaching that side door?

This implies possible inside info (colleagues, family). Or did the shooter check out the investor meeting the previous quarter and laid his plans from there?
From what I can see the date and time was in their website. I don't see the location being published - but correct me if I am wrong. For whatever reason he stayed at a different hotel - maybe a higher end hotel was selected for him. The event started at 9 and he was a speaker, so he likely headed in early to ensure he was situated before he needed to speak - get a lay of the stage etc. But, at his level, the nature of the business and the threats - the Company should have provided a security detail.

They no longer believe he used a citibike.

Suspect in shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO did not flee on a Citi Bike, law enforcement source says

From CNN’s Brynn Gingras
The e-bike used by the suspect who shot and killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was not a Citi Bike, a law enforcement official tells CNN.

As CNN previously reported, the suspect fled — first on foot, then on an e-bike — and was last seen in Central Park early this morning, according to police.

CNN was talking about this earlier. United has a protective team that covers all the top executives. No answer on if one was present for that event, or why he didn’t have someone escorting him.
If UHG had a protection team, then they surely would have been there in NYC for the investor day. ALL senior executives would either be presenting or 'on call'. All hands on deck! These are critical meetings for public companies.

Well this makes more sense. Those bikes are highly tracked.

I sure don't see it becoming a "real thing".
If I'm wrong, I'll drink to that!
Agreed. Sounds like a bad plot to the most recent "Criminal Minds" season.

Edited to add...it was joining this site that introduced me to "Criminal Minds" :-)

I will continue to add the the UHC team planning the event likely stayed at the Hilton - pricing and convenience. The shooter had sensitive information about Brian - when to expect his arrival etc.

Perhaps he declined, or he left before a protective team escorted the rest of the executives.

Regarding that "mystery woman" I thought that was a guard or attendant standing in front of the hotel. To me it looked to be a person in uniform, with a badge or emblem of sorts.
She hurried away as any person would. No mystery there.

Thank you. Makes sense. Strange that they thought he was on a citibike to begin with. Getting and returning a citibike is so public.

Agree. She probably freaked out

Unfortunately the clip did not load. So I am in search of another possible working link. My clip would not link “Eye witness says shooter was there all night”. It is embedded in the article I linked in my post #621. The video is about half way down the Daily Mail article. Wish me luck.

John Miller:

5:15 Upper West Side video shows suspect carrying a battery for an e-bike. He may live in that area or just started in that area.

Trying to get into cell phone. Have to get past passcode. Even if it’s a burner it will be big. Could also be his phone that he dropped accidentally.

Shell casings can be run through system to see if they showed up at any other crime scene.

Found complete bullets that could have DNA or partial print. Will have to wait for lab results, so video canvas is what they can do right now.

Seemed to be pretty skilled. Shooter stance. Two hand grip. Clears jams really quickly. Suggests someone comfortable and experienced with firearms. Could be law enforcement, military; someone not new to this.
do they know for sure that the cell phone belonged to the shooter?

The thinking seems to be that he stashed it somewhere near the scene.

I just wonder where.
Reports said he left via Ziegfield Alley, which I'm assuming is 6 1/2 Ave (between 6th and 7th). It's right by the Hilton, on other side of 54th. I think he left the bike unlocked there during the killing and then rode up 7th Ave into the park. Speculation.

Just want to say how sorry I am you had to endure such rude treatment. I'll never understand why people are so quick to yell at other people, especially when the person didn't do anything other than their job!! Not okay.

They seem to be very confident it does. Perhaps it was found near that water bottle he bought earlier.

Or maybe they have that event on camera.

I'm anxious to see the mugshot (if we will) after studying his face. Want to see the slanted to one side long straight nose, and to see if he indeed has Slavic cheekbones.
