Actually, I don't care for Starbucks as a company, but I have to admit, I do LOVE their coffee! I rarely order it, only if someone asks me to meet them there, and then I have the secret pleasure of savoring what seems to me to be a little cup of heaven!

Wherever I go, I try all the local baristas. Starbuck used to be OK, never great, but now you have to order espresso to understand...well, if you like it, I am not going to spoil it for you. Tully coffee in Seattle was much better quality, but it lost. It is bought by Keurig now, and it is not Tully. I think Tully failed to make a profit because their coffee was good.

I don't think that you're going to find a lot of "notations of people dying due to insurance claim denial" for several reasons, one of them being that not many people want to, or are able to, go to court against an insurance company's sharks who are on retainer for millions, for defamation. Etc. (Also, it doesn't have to happen that a company denies a life-saving drug and the patient dies a month later, directly due to not having the drug. The point is, very, very, many people have their lives wrecked by delays and denials in the insurance industry. In my book, your doctor -the person who is actually educated and trained to provide medical care, isn't the one giving it- it's the CEO of abcinsurer who got an MBA at Harvard, and the others in the pharmaceutical-insurance-federal complex.)

These companies are hugely powerful and profit-driven. I recently read here about someone seeing "hundreds" of complaints online about UNC. Hundreds? Millions would likely be more accurate. The hatred people feel at these ginormous insurance companies is palpable. And UHC is on the top of the heap for being the target of it. (With good reason, IMO.)

Another person here pointed out how awful it is to rage at the poor employee on the other end of the phone and it is. But, WHO does one rage at? Do you think Brian Thompson is going to answer the phone? Can you talk to a live person and get any individually-oriented response to your individual problem at your insurance company? I can't. I'm lucky if the Chat-bot isn't too busy to take my call.

All of this is to say that no one should have gunned down Mr. Thompson on the street. However, there is rage. Absolute rage, and rightly so, at the handful of elites who control the lives of tiny, powerless, often elderly and sick people, all the while ensconced in their cushy lives, with their millions and billions.

United Healthcare treated my sick cousin with great cruelty. Fortunately, she survived the numerous denials of care and lack of facility approval. She's not with United anymore. It is easy to imagine a family member angry about the treatment of a parent or close relative. Whether that is the perpetrator's underlying motive is not yet known.

Wow looks like it was a 1 day event. There was no time the day before to run a test run. The shooter was so brazen. How did he know that Thompson would be staying at the hotel across the street - and know exactly where to stand at what time? It seems to me he had to have some personal details about Thompson's accomodations & schedule that day.

I wonder if the shooter ran a test run on Tuesday morning to know exactly the route Thompson would take and know exactly what his coat looked like,etc.

This is still such a sticking point with me.
How did the shooter know to be exactly where BT was at that time of the morning?
The conference wasn't scheduled to start until 8am so, yes, it stands to reason that people would be arriving earlier but BT was shot at 6:44ish arriving to the meeting location.
How did the shooter know that and know it with enough certainty that he was 'in position' 5 minutes before BT arrived?
Wasn't BT just staying at a hotel close by - like across the street?

Big update from CNN:

Sources say they found video at the hostel. Kept his mask on most of the time. One moment where he has no mask on but hood is up. This image was taken either at check in or check out. That image may be released.

Was in a room with two other people. Unclear if law enforcment has been able to learn anything from those people.

Able to capture fingerprint off of recovered items. No identification has come back yet.

Brian had another home since 2018. This was my original suspicion all along. That's a long time to be separated without another partner(s) being involved. Would he be worth more dead than alive? Just a question. I am back to my original speculation...that this murder was a hire from someone close to the home front...As always, I could be wrong!

All along I have thought that, if Brian had been receiving "credible" threats, he would certainly have a bodyguard in NYC of all places. My husband was a VP for a major corporation. The top executives flew on different flights and always had hired local protection.

I remember Tully! I'm from that great coffee capital, Seattle. I wouldn't claim to be an expert on coffee, though. I just know that Starbucks has always tasted really good to me. Perhaps my taste buds need some fine tuning....

This was not an an annual shareholders meeting that shareholders must be given specifics about so they can attend if they want. This was an annual Investor Conference that was for Analysts and Institutional Investors. That conference is not required and would usually only be for those invited.

This, and most annual shareholders meetings are virtual post-covid now. UHC’s AGM appears to be virtual, so shareholders don’t have an option to attend in person. Investor days usually have 100-300 institutional shareholders and analysts invited, but for the public it’s all online.

Very common to not mention location in these announcements for security purposes, but someone clearly figured it out. Maybe they hold it at this location every year?

The brick building behind him is the Hi New York City Hostel at 891 Amsterdam Avenue, which is between 103rd and 104th Streets. It’s a short walk/ride into the northwest corner of Central Park and also close to 9A for access to the GWB. If he really was an international traveller he might have gone to Newark Airport. At the very least he’d be in New Jersey very quickly by car.

So sorry to hear about your cousin's ordeal.

I have a relative with a child who has a chronic condition, which is stressful enough, but she has essentially a *JOB* dealing with the insurance and spends so much time on the phone it is heartbreaking. The paperwork seems designed to be confusing. She is up to the task and is a strong, smart person with support, but I can see how insurance issues would push someone past the breaking point. I really can see it.

I happen to think this murder was a hit, but I do understand the more personal motive idea.

Exactly, who knows the details of any executives travel plans, accomodations and schedule, a very small amount of people - family, executive assistant and coworkers and that's it. Which leads me to believe this was a personal motive.

So sorry about your cousin. Sadly, real people, with real lives, with illness and pain, who have families who love them, are often treated "with great cruelty" by giant corporations whose preeminent goal is profit. The lives of the people who run those behemoths are utterly disconnected and removed from those on the end of their decisions and actions.
