From my perspective, the two cases are not even remotely comparable.

The Diddy case is Prime Example #1 of why we can't trust a jury to reach a rational, unbiased, evidence-based conclusion. The Diddy case is precisely why I view this plea deal as a win for the good guys.

Diddy will be able to party away and soak up all the baby oil his skin can absorb.

BK is not going to be laughing in prison.
He's either going to be sitting in solitary staring at 4 blank walls closing in on him, or he's going to be looking over his shoulder in a state of constant fear and hyper-vigilance.

Not the same cases, and certainly not the same outcomes. JMO.
Tbh, Diddy is a rich celeb who is also black. It's just OJ all over again. BK is a nobody outside of what he did. I don't think jurors in Idaho of all places will be that lenient on him.

I'm glad that Prosecutor Bill Thompson provided a summary of the evidence, but the number of unanswered questions is mind boggling. For instance, who said ''There’s someone here''? Was that Kaylee? That was the pivotal moment the residents realized something very wrong was going on.

They didn't put Chris Watts in "protective" custody. He seems to be living his best life in prison.
Watts was moved to a federal facility for his safety.

How about when he stood up to answer the judge at the very beginning? He was acting like he was the star for all to see. So glad the judge told him not to.

So only one more appearance in street clothes - for his official sentencing, and then it's convictwear for the rest of his awful life?

Dahmer started out in protective custody, too.

Eventually, that went away.

And we all know what happened to him after it did.
Prisoners have a choice to be placed in protective custody for their protection. Dahmer chose not to. Really don't think he wanted to live, jmo.

She shouldn't be touching him AT ALL. Maybe instinctive because she's still human, but he's not. And he's not 12 either.

He did this because he could.

He chilled that whole room.

JMO
Maybe it was her expression of "you did the right thing". Nothing to do with affection, empathy, or kindness.

well thats good news, having lightly followed this thread I am not surprised tbh. It all seemed so clear cut and I even mentioned AT seemed to be handling a already lost cause. A few questions though, was there anything recent that tipped the teetering tower? surely not the dd witness unless she did indeed see him and was willing to testify but i havent read that, also wondering what it means for the sentencing? if he pleads guilty i find it difficult to believe he will get a reduced sentence of life without parole for simply stating the obvious at this point?

props to the families and friends, may justice and what little it can do for you be done.
The DD driver got picked up on a dui (prescription meds) and told the officers that she was the door dash driver who saw BK at the scene. IMO, that was the nail in the coffin. I wondered if Anne Taylor’s antics were attempting a strategy to set up an appeal.

I thought leaking that video was wrong. The DD driver had a right to privacy instead of having a target printed on her back. My guess is the Prosecution leaked it as a way to scare BK into accepting a plea deal. The evidence we are aware of is damning and I think they have a lot more.

It looks to me like he was about to lose his cold composure at that moment and she was trying to calm him with a staying hand so he wouldn't flip out and go after someone/anyone physically and do more damage, as in "there there now, you've done great so far, don't blow it now" (your facade of being cooperative).

It reminds me of a referee in a boxing ring holding back one of the boxers when it looked dicey about them losing their cool and forgetting the rules, like their blood lust might take over and they'll go nuts, cuz playing nice is uber alle (Over All in German) difficult for them.

I was surprised to hear the judge recite the mandatory minimums for each charge. Was he doing this because it is relevant to sentencing, or is there a possibility that, even if the judge sentences 10 for the burglary with intent to murder plus 4 consecutive life sentences, BK could - with the granting of parole - serve only 40 certain years (plus whatever the minimum for the burglary with intent to murder was)?

I think it’s just due to Judge Hippler’s very thorough and cautious manner. He doesn’t want anything to be overturned through some loophole.
Just as he repeated the date, the address and county for each crime, just as he inquired several times of Bryan making sure he understood all the ramifications of his plea deal.

Also thankfully that he asked in several ways if Bryan was satisfied with his defense team and its work. That is to forestall any future claims by Bryan of poor and inadequate representation.

The sentence does not allow for parole nor any leniency going forward, and four life terms running consecutively does not provide for any mitigation of his sentence. His sentence will end with his death.

JMO and what we learned in court today.

He won't tell because people want to know. He buzzes off power and will hold onto anything that gives him it.

He's textbook.

I won't give him any of that. He has absolutely no power. He's a coward. He's a complete failure. A wimp who ambushed drunk and sleeping kids. He's not smart. He's no criminal mastermind. He was caught pretty easily because he is in fact an idiot who left a trail of evidence leading investigators right to his parent's doorstep. He got his family SWATTED and put in zip-ties. Who cares where the murder weapon is at this point? It's not a crucial piece of evidence anymore. No one needs it. There's no trial. There's no questions or doubt about his guilt. He was taken away in handcuffs. He's going to PC for the time being but even if he gets out of there, he going to be doing Hard Time. He'll be locked in with the other animals who have killed people or worse. He won't be up against sleeping and drunk children. We already know he can't fight. Nope, no power for him in The Can. He'll be a just another 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 who trucked-up and will be spending every second of the rest of his life staring at walls and bars, being told what to do and when to do it. He's nothing but a failure.

How does LE even know in what order the victims were killed?
BK isn’t talking, so what kind of evidence indicates he went upstairs first, then Xana, then Ethan?
My point is, until BK is required to confess in detail, we have no idea what went on in the house, except he killed four people.
We also don’t know what drew him to that house.
The one requirement missing from the plea deal that should be there, is his detailed confession. Everything else, I think is for the best.

He looks like a wild animal, as he IS.
I know what you mean, but actually no normal wild animal behaves like that. They kill to eat or feed their young or to defend themselves and their young. (A rabid one might behave abnormally.)

When I see that thumb-up selfie, I think of Voldemort from when his features were turning more and more snake-like. Epitomy of evil. Fictional character of course.

ITA. And bbm, I don't understand why a complete detailed confession was not mandatory (for the victims families at the very least) and the WHYs weren't included. They SO should have been imo.

Original of the photo is News Nation: https://www.newsnationnow.com/crime/kohberger-court-plea-deal-hearing/

Left out the original source so correcting and reposting.

Whoa! We need to see this photo.

I said he looked primal and that this was an entirely different person from the livestream.THIS is the image of a murderer. JMOO

IMO and IME, not to poo poo anyone, however from watching him in court in other hearings, I've noticed that is the face BK tends to have when listening intently to being directly addressed by the judge. I have also seen AT touch his arm like that in a previous hearing to get his attention when he is listening to someone else.

If he had been acting aggressive in that moment, I can guarantee that one of those two officers would have had their hands on him, not the casual stance they have in that image.

I went back and looked at the video. Right as the camera was turned off after the judge announced court was adjourned, BK and AT stood up. Right as the camera turned off, she put her hand on his upper arm as the two officers were walking towards him. BK kept his eyes on the judge as he stood. I believe this shot was taken a second after the cameras went off.

IMHO, in that photo it feels to me that the the judge was giving BK some final instructions and the officers were waiting for the judge to finish. I believe AT put her hand on his arm to let him know the judge (from her experience) was likely going to give him some final comment and to wait there.

*shrug* Sorry.

I read the Hardy Boys mysteries, too! I love I found someone else who started out with those types of books ! lol !!

I’m kind of jealous you worked with law enforcement, and I always wanted to go to crime scenes , and gather evidence !! I understand it is way worse and far more horrific than I can imagine. And I should be glad I have not exposed my mind to such horror in real life .
Glad to see you are a long time Websleuth-er, too !!
Here's 1 more Hardy Boy alum, with Nancy Drew. The Bobbseys. Anything else within reach.

The defense had that information in discovery. It wasn't new to them.

AT had to defense to present.

The State weighed lifting the DP. Solid plea, no appeals, no risk of mistrial, acquittal. Weighed against the feelings of varied family wishes. Including the survivors.

This may well have been BK's intention all along. Force the preparation, then plead guilty at the end.

Human being, devoid of humanity.

True. I'll go with a rabid wild animal then, in order not to insult nature and wild animals. Good point!

I genuinely think that she bonded with him🙄 He groomed her to have control, it’s so disgusting. The looks that they exchanged between them throughout the case were a bit chummy. Regardless she shouldn’t be touching him. Yuck.
Nah. She needed him to trust her as his advocate, and that requires her to appear to him as his friend.

My impression of the picture is that he is reacting to something called out to him from the audience, and she is touching him as this professional trusted friend, to calm him. It is her controlling him, not the other way around.

AT is a very skilled advocate for terrible people, and she is able to develop a relationship with them while maintaining proper internal boundaries. Her relationship, however it looks, is professional not personal.

When this trusted advocate told him that despite her best efforts he would likely be convicted, that there are people who care about him, and that to save his life he should offer to plead guilty, he took that advice. Without the relationship she developed with him, he may not have.

I did not say he was "acting aggressive". I said he looked primal. So, agree to disagree.

I was just looking for the evidence of what it looked like when he/the murderer chased you down in the middle of the night. JMOO

So often he has looked small and docile at the table. Not there. Just saying. He looked a bit like a boxer waiting to throw a punch.
