I think that Zelenskyy was treated firmly and fairly. He made a fool of himself and knows that going forward he needs to do better. JMO.

One mistake he definitely made was not taking an interpreter. Even if his English is perfect. An interpreter gives the time to think through and lowers the impulsivity. It was not difficult to predict that Trump would remember Hunter. One had to be prepared what to say. After all, after so many years, Zelinskyy has turned into a seasoned politician. The future of your country depends on US new President. Who may not have the best memories of the past but is exceptionally pragmatic and in whose eyes, everything has its cost.

Maybe a second person for the negotiations would have helped, too. I am a little bit upset that Zelenskyy's nerves gave up, although I can well understand how it can happen.

He was a GUEST, in a foreign country and should have been treated with respect. Not treated like a lesser being or third world nobody!
President Trump is not the only President that has given President Zelenskyy a reality check. It’s just unfortunate it played out in such a public way. imo

President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump on Feb. 28 to finalize a critical minerals deal between Ukraine and the United States, the president confirmed in his evening address on Feb. 26.

Previously, Trump announced that Zelensky would sign the deal at the White House on Feb. 28.

"Our teams are working with America, we are preparing for talks this Friday," Zelensky said in a video posted to his official Telegram channel.

"An agreement with America. ... I will meet with President Trump. It is important for me and all of us in the world that America's assistance is not stopped."

Following a series of intensive negotiations, Washington and Kyiv agreed on a deal to establish a fund to which Ukraine will contribute 50% of proceeds from the "future monetization" of state-owned mineral resources, including oil, gas, and logistics infrastructure.

Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers approved the decision to sign the mineral resources agreement on Feb. 26, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said.

The agreement does not lay out any concrete security guarantees in exchange for U.S. access to Ukraine's mineral resource revenues. Zelensky told reporters that although specific measures are not included in the current agreement, guarantees will be discussed in future negotiations.

What other President has spoken to him in the way that Trump did? and Belittled him? I can not think of any. It just isnt what you do to your allies.

President Zelenskyy's Full Address To Congress

Excerpt from the transcript:

When I was in Bakhmut yesterday, our heroes gave me the flag, the battle flag, the flag of those who defend Ukraine, Europe and the world at the cost of their lives. They ask me to bring this flag to you, to the US Congress to members of the House of Representatives and senators whose decisions can save millions of people. So, let this decisions be taken. Let this flag stay with you, ladies and gentlemen. This flag is a symbol of our victory in this war. We stand, we fight and we will win because we are united – Ukraine, America and the entire free world.

Complete transcript:

"I hope my words of respect and gratitude resonate in each American heart."

"Thank you very much - great honour".

Esteemed congressman and senators from both parties.

"Against all odds .........Ukraine didn't fall. Ukraine is alive and kicking".

"The Russians only stand a chance to be free, when they defeat the Kremlin in their minds".

I feel sorry for him. He had huge support and respect from the US, then there's a change of administration and it must be a huge shock to him, the way he was treated.

Very pro Trump IMO

Tbh though he should have expected it. Trump had made it plain he was against him and it was always obvious how it would go. Sure people didnt expect the hissyfit last Friday but even so...and thats another thing tbh. Even before Zelensky went there Trump had been calling him a dictator and other names. Again very unprofessional. It was never going to be easy for Zelensky in the White House after that.

At the same time as he was calling Zelensky names he would not hear a word against Putin.

The whole world is moving towards more authoritarian leaders. Putin, Xi Jinping, Modi, Erdogan, Orban, now Trump. We don't know how the things will be in Canada or France.

It reflects the economy, but also, one can view it as cyclical pendulum movements. It will swing in the other direction in a while.
WRT the US, I think this shift is primarily due to the bad decision to allow unlimited political contributions to candidates. Billionaires can now craft their own version of a government and society, then purchase the president and legislators to make it reality.

Five billionaires don't know beans about running the US government.

Yes it seems odd Zelensky was walking into a Lion's Den when there had been proclamations from Trump that Ukraine started the war! When everyone knows Russia invaded Ukraine!

It could be seen as very brave or very foolish - or a bit of both - but he was determined to try and gain the support needed for his country - the country he represents. JMO MOO

BBC Fact Checks what Trump has said

"US President Donald Trump has appeared to accuse Ukraine of being responsible for the war with Russia, in a flurry of claims from his Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida.

BBC Verify has fact-checked Trump's claims.

Claim: Zelensky is a 'dictator without elections'

Zelensky won 73% of the vote in the second-round run-off.

Trump appeared aware that it had been a frequent Russian allegation used to undermine Zelensky

Claim: 'I hate to say it, but he's down at 4% approval rating'

A survey conducted this month found that 57% of Ukrainians said they trusted the president, according to the Ukraine-based Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, external.

Claim: 'You should have never started it'

Ukraine didn't start the war. Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, having annexed Crimea in 2014.

Trump started this negative propaganda about Zelensky (mirroring Russian propaganda) in the immediate run up to Zelensky's visit to the US. Zelensky still tried to get a deal. JMO MOO

Agree. 100%. But it was done in 2009 i think, and the irony, not even on a conservatives ' watch, although I think it was not any party deal. The problem is, Supreme Justices are life-long tenures. So we have what we have.

But in general, the world has moved to the right. Everywhere. "This, too, shall pass."

And I have one with President Trump. JMO.
And I'm quite certain that Canadians, Greenland and Panama would recommend a revisit of the meaning of 'diplomacy', 'statesmanship' and 'democracy'.

Theatening to Annex other sovereign nations is not what democracies do. Constantly referring to the Prime Minister of another nation as the "Governor fof the 51st State" or a "Dictator" (when they are not) is not funny, is not diplomatic and is a threat.

So I do not think you have what you think you have. IMO.

Yet those people are sticking up for Zelensky not Trump.
I don’t think all Ukranians are sticking up for Zelenskyy. It might be 50-50. imo

One pensioner, Valentina, speaking in Kyiv’s independence square – next to a memorial to fallen Ukrainian soldiers – said Zelenskyy had made a big mistake.

“I think he should have stayed silent and just listened to Trump. Trump wants to stop this war,” she said. “There is a lot of grief in our country. Every day people are getting killed. I was disappointed. It was night in Kyiv when the meeting happened. I just cried because the war will now continue.”

A teenager, Andrii Semeniuta, said the country was split “50-50” in its view of Ukraine’s president. Asked what he thought of the Oval Office exchanges, he said: “I can’t judge. It’s a difficult moment. I don’t think Ukraine will get its territory back, unfortunately.”

I agree, Zelensky feels bound to seek what is best for his people: Ukraine first! That is his job. If the WH invites him, he doesn't turn them down.

Which doesn't mean being cynical or manipluative, and trying to play games of flattery and charm. As he said when Trump told him he has no cards "I'm not playing cards".

IMO, what Trump was demanding was: first suck up to me, then suck up to Putin...

The things he said about Zelensky were all pretty much wrong tbh. Firstly he has a similar approval rating to Trump. Secondly he was elected President. When they were invaded ALL Parliament said there would be no elections during the war. Therefore he was elected. Thirdly Putin invaded them. Zelensky did not start it which raises the question why is he trying so hard to turn people against Zelensky by lieing?

Soldiers and many many others say differently. Saying that 50/50 is way higher than Trump claims.

I wish Trump would allow the press to broadcast his calls with Putin.
