Yes this was a big deal. US citizens were boycotting companies that would not pull out of Russia. My grandkids had a fit cuz we wouldn't need a McDonald's or Subway for months.

Putin that's all gas and rare minerals. He selling them to his Good buddies China, North Korea, Iran and others. Some European countries are still buying a small amount of gas.

He may be hurting, but he still got those nuclear missiles. He could start selling those off. I'm sure Iran in the market. The US just blew up a big site over there that had potential/suspected to manufacture a nuclear weapon. He's got options.

Whoever negotiate with Putin is going to have to be on cordial terms. He's not going to negotiate with somebody that's been out in public bad-mouthing him.
You can't call in the terrorist one day and pick up the phone and ask him to negotiate a peace till the next day.

I'm sure you can find many many more articles telling how bad the US is. And even more of Trump. I don't know why anybody would want to do business with us or be our allies.

Moo
So, if I understand what you are saying (and I might not, so feel free to correct me) , US should be nice to Russia because they have minerals and nukes.
by definition, if you have to throw 'friends' under the bus, you will do it to save your 'family'.

Every country in the world deals with similar problems. They have certain resources but not others. But the good countries (yes, I know it's just relative and no country is perfect) do the best that they can and fight for their friends.

We, here in Canada, have potash that represents 86% of America's supply. It's critical to growing crops. But instead of sucking up to Canada, Trump is trying to economically destroy Canada by imposing ridiculous tariffs and convincing Americans that Canada (and practically every other nation) is ripping them off. He is suggesting that Canada become a 51st state. But we know it is just because he wants our resources. Canada has stood by the US. We took Americans in that in flight during 9-11. We joined the US in Aghanistan, because we were their friends.
And now, this is how we are being treated. We are being blackmailed and being blackballed. This is NOT how friends treat each other.
But Trump paints everyone else as the enemy. And the USA is always the victim. Think about it. Does that make sense?
Ukraine is a true victim, and yet here is the US treating them like dirt. The US doesn't have to provide more money, let alone any American boots on the ground, yet the bravado bullying from Trump and gang was embarrassing. What has the great nation of the USA come to, where everyone except Russia is bad?

Has that been confirmed by DOD or the White House? The article I saw said unnamed source. I'm always suspicious of unnamed sources.
Trump's pretty up front. I think he would announce it if it were true. He's already got the label Putin lover.
It might be true...

Well unless Ukraine makes concession do you think Putin will sign a peace agreement? I'm hopeful, but realistic. Ukraine doesn't have any bargaining power,
Putin has nuclear power.

They may stand with Ukraine? It's easy to say we stand with Ukraine. The main question is are they going to put their soldiers into war with Putin? Are the citizens of your country going to be okay with that? There will be large casualties.

The US is not willing to put our soldiers in. The memory of our soldiers from Afghanistan is still too fresh in our minds.

Moo
But we in Europe have put our soldiers into your wars previously, because we are your allies. We will do it again for Ukraine, even though 'the memory of our soldiers is fresh in our minds'.

It's about the bigger picture, Putin is the aggressor here. He is a threat to ANY country that is not an allie. Which side is America/DT on again?

One of the congressman denied it. Chuck Schumer indirectly accused him. Notice how delicately it's worded. Donald's been suing people. He putting all the money towards building his Presidential library. Moo

I'm not understanding what you are referring to. What money are you referring to? I posted the link that says Hegseth stopped all cyber operations against Russia. And the fact that Trump wants Russia back in the G7, disbanded the FBI Foreign Influence Task Force, reducing enforcement of the Foreign Agents Task Force, and terminating an initiative to protect Ukraine's energy grid. All things that Putin wants. It could not be more clear. Donald Trump isn't interested in a library, we all know that, he's famous for not reading.

UK has offered up 23,000 peacekeeping troops. France has not given a number and now want a 30-day cease fire prior to sending in peacekeeping troops. I thought there would be more offers during the European summit this weekend.
I think we're going to have to wait and see if the European group actually sends in troops. I posted an article earlier today that said they needed 230,000 troops per Zelensky. That seem like an awfully large number to me.

America's on the side of peace. We want the war to end. It will take compromise. Zelensky not going to get all those things on that long list he read off in the White House. Yes Putin is a threat to Europe. The US has many more threats than Putin. We have some real bad guys Iran, North Korea, China. We have planes and are actively in combat in the Red Sea right now. We just bombed Iran last week.

There's a big picture here. The US is actively in combat in several regions of the world today. How can you ask us to take on Ukraine? Our military is actively fighting terrorists.

Europe needs to step up. It was the topic of conversation at the summit this weekend.

Yes you sent soldiers in the Afghanistan war. I am very grateful. The 9/11 attack was horrific, thousands died. We were attacked in our own country on our soil. If a European NATO country is attacked yes we are going to be there. We were 100% support you. But we're not going the send troops into Ukraine. Trying to understand how many places the US is an active combat, finding terrorism. Your leaders get it.

I know I read the whole article. A congressman denied it. It's an unnamed source. You're free to believe it. I choose not to. I don't think that kind of information would be leaked out of DOD.

More than likely a rumor. Now they may have switched over to a different system. I do know they have upgraded several systems under Elon. A lot of our computers and equipment is very antiquated. Our social security system is running off of a computer program designed in 1980.

Just follow the actions. I just watched a Fox Business news clip of an interview with Carlos Gimenez where they said that Pete Hegseth has ordered a halt to offensive cyber operations immediately. Gimenez ( a Republican Congressman from Florida) said he thought that would be a terrible mistake and doesn't understand why 'we would be doing that, as the Russians are attacking us every single day. ". Interviewer: It looks like we are tilting toward Russia's side. Gimenez: Well that would be a mistake.

Everyone can see what's going on. Trump's opening the door for Putin and oligarchs.
It's sad but true. I'm sorry that that must be difficult to accept.

I'm not ready to give up any country. Look at the map. Just a matter of time until he invades another country. He's always going to be a threat. As long as he has nuclear missiles he has the upper hand.

I'm not ready to go to nuclear war right now. I'd like for my grandchildren to be able to live on Earth. I'm not sure people understand how severe the world situation is. It's not just Russia, it's China, it's North Korea it's Iran.

Moo
So you're saying that we should do anything that Russia (a country of 145 million people) wants, because they have nukes. Well the US has nukes too. And the US discouraged other countries from getting nukes because they would be able to counter them. So... Should we just turn the entire world over to Russia, or should we fight them and keep them in check? Don't Ukrainian grandchildren deserve to live in a free country? Don't Polish grandchildren deserve to live in a free country? Don't your grandchildren?

We should end the war, negotiate a peace treaty. And that's what our government is working on.

Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014 just after the Sochi Olympics (The Crimean Region of Ukraine)
RSBM
Sochi's never belonged to Ukraine, also Sochi's never located in Crimea.
Sochi is a largest resort city in the Black Sea cost of Southern Russia.

Your linked article contains the information from Rachel Maddow’s show tonight that I recommended earlier (it’s written by a producer of her show). She listed all the pro-Russia things he has done. As she usually does, she tied it in with some interesting history.

Thank you for re-posting the link, branmuffin. Somehow I missed it the first time.

From the article:

Late last week, a publication called The Record ... published a report that seemed hard to believe. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the outlet reported, “ordered U.S. Cyber Command to stand down from all planning against Russia, including offensive digital actions.”

Here is the report from The Record:

February 28th, 2025
Hegseth gave the instruction to Cyber Command chief Gen. Timothy Haugh, who then informed the organization's outgoing director of operations, Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Ryan Heritage, of the new guidance, according to these people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the matter’s sensitivity.

While the full scope of Hegseth’s directive to the command remains unclear, it is more evidence of the White House’s efforts to normalize ties with Moscow after the U.S. and international allies worked to isolate the Kremlin over its 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

How robust of a link do you need? Russian children's commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova, who "says" the children were brought to Russia by friends and relatives? I am not sure that the Hague believes them, presumably The Hague has proof that is not the case.

There are plenty of other links out there. I tried to select, for robustness, just a few of the very credible sources.

On March 17, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Lvova-Belova. They were charged with being responsible for the deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia -- a war crime under international legislation.

More Than 700,000 Ukrainian Children Taken To Russia Since Full-Scale War Started, Official Says

Or maybe the UK Foreign Policy Centre is robust?

Right now, thousands of Ukrainian children do not know if their parents are alive. Tens of thousands have been taken to Russia, while hundreds of thousands have been lost in a broken system.

Three years into Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the world has witnessed the forced displacement of millions of Ukrainians, the abduction of thousands of children, and the fragmentation of families on a devastating scale.

Or the United Nations?

Kateryna Rashevska, legal expert at the Regional Center for Human Rights, then reported that Russian Federation agents have taken at least 19,546 children to that country from Ukraine since 18 February 2022. Among other violations, Russian Federation citizenship is imposed on them, and they are forbidden to speak and learn the Ukrainian language or preserve their Ukrainian identity.
