Appeasement didn’t work so well for Chamberlain. He only had the British channel to protect him, though, not the entire Atlantic.
Talking about the British..we are now just some random country apparently MSN

US vice-president’s comments on proposed Anglo-French deployment to Ukraine prompt outrage

The shadow defence secretary and other MPs have reacted with fury after JD Vance appeared to describe a proposed Anglo-French peace deployment to Ukraine as “20,000 troops from some random country that has not fought a war in 30 or 40 years”.

While UK politicians are largely united in agreeing that a US military presence in some form will be necessary in any peace deal, there was immediate outrage about Vance’s apparent dismissal of a UK military that fought alongside American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Johnny Mercer, the Conservative former armed forces minister, who is no longer an MP, called Vance a “clown”.

Mercer, who served in Afghanistan as an army officer, said: “I read JD Vance’s book, making the mistake of finding him quite interesting. By his own admission he spent his time in the Marines ‘writing articles and taking pictures’. Perhaps if he had got his hands dirty serving his country like so many of his fellow American and British veterans, chasing his own country’s crazy foreign policy ideas, he might not be so quick to dismiss their sacrifice.”

Ukrainian border reports confirm aid has been paused, Polish PM says

Adam Easton
Warsaw Correspondent

Border reports from Ukraine confirm US aid into the country has been paused, Polish Prime minister Donald Tusk has said.

Tusk told a news conference ahead of the government’s weekly meeting in Warsaw that information had been received from both the border and the international hub for supplies to Ukraine at Jasionka airport near the city of Rzeszow, south-eastern Poland.

“Today, a decision about suspending American help for Ukraine and to possibly start lifting sanctions on Russia was announced," Tusk said.

"We have no reason today to think that they are just words. Reports coming in from the border, also from our hub in Jasionka, confirm the announcements of the American side.

“The situation is serious. I don’t need to convince anyone that it requires special concentration from the government,” he told ministers.

In London, the prime minister’s official spokesperson has said that Keir Starmer spoke to US president Donald Trump on Monday, but refused to be drawn on whether the conversation happened before or after Trump announced the US suspension of military aid to Ukraine. The spokesperson declined to comment directly on the US pause of support.

Earlier Poland’s foreign ministry spokesperson Paweł Wroński said the Trump administration had made the move without consulting allies.

Europe's nightmare has arrived. The Euro unwavering support of <modsnip: name calling> Zelensky has brought them to the brink of all out war, where they will have to fight the Russian bear alone.

Of course he did it without consulting anyone else. Trump cannot face being told he is wrong and, ultimately, can't face being told "no". And he knew fine well what the reaction would be.

Spineless in the extreme.

Whereas you won't even get the opportunity to fight. Trump is gifting your country to Russia.

It saddens me that so many people cannot see this.

Vance accused of 'disrespecting' British troops

British politicians have criticised JD Vance for an interview he gave to Fox News last night.

One line has picked up significant attention in the UK: Vance said that the US-proposed rare minerals deal - which remains unsigned - was a "way better security guarantee than 20,000 troops from some random country that hasn’t fought a war in 30 or 40 years".

His remarks were interpreted by many UK media outlets, politicians and armed forces personnel as referring to the UK and France - the only two countries which have so far said they would be willing to send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine if and when the war ends.

"It’s deeply disrespectful to ignore such service & sacrifice," shadow defence secretary James Cartlidge writes on X.

Similar remarks were shared by the former veterans minister, Johnny Mercer, who also calls Vance a "clown".

Lib Dem MP Helen Maguire, a former captain, says Vance is "erasing the hundreds of British troops who gave their lives in Iraq + Afghanistan from history".

In response, Vance writes on X: "This is absurdly dishonest. I don’t even mention the UK or France in the clip, both of whom have fought bravely alongside the US over the last 20 years, and beyond."

Yet those were the only two countries which had made public statements at that point 🤦‍♀️.

Of course he meant the UK and France. He just isn't educated enough to know the facts. Basic historical information that was front page news for decades when our soldiers were dying!

At least when Russia takes over their politicians will be on tight enough leashes that they won't be making such idiotic comments.

Note that he doesn't clarify who is he talking about, if it's not the UK or France.

What a mess but hey trumps progressing on renaming the Gulf of Mexico, an effort for a President we never knew we needed.

In world news beyond the White House work on personal retaliations and vanity projects.

How dare President trump not do his preparation for the Ukraine meeting making President Zelenskyy have to fact check trump crushing trump publically for his lack of knowledge.

Where are trumps aids to assist in preparation and groom him for success?

Where was the Secretary of State to sit close and whisper advice in trump’s ear offering facts and deflecting the goofiness?

Vance; he choked on presenting his version of facts and policies intelligently.

Vance spun his wheels with his bad manners of commenting on others manners in a social setting.
He brought nothing to the room but poor conduct and a glaring weakness of character.

trump's losing the floor to chaos confirms again his weakness to the world.

Individuals are not open to unruly oddly timed instructions from rude people who do not show them basic respect.

trump reads easily like a children’s first book. Zelenskyy is in a war for survival.
Zelenskyy saw right off what trumps approach was going to be with that crazy greeting.

Trump rudely greets Zelenskyy at the White House door pointing and laughing at him to the press and uncouth comment on Zelenskyy’s clothes:

Ukraine's military says it hit Russian oil facilities

Vitaliy Shevchenko
Russia editor, BBC Monitoring

Ukraine’s military says it has carried out a number of strikes against Russian energy infrastructure overnight.

In a post on social media, the Ukrainian general staff says its drone forces, acting together with other parts of the army, targeted an oil pumping station in Rostov region, causing explosions and a fire.

Separately, Ukraine targeted the Syzran oil refinery in Samara region, causing a fire, the general staff said.

In the third attack, Ukraine targeted a gas pipeline at Sokhranovka in Rostov region, the report said.

This is why we need the laugh reaction!

Unprofessional? Yes. But truthful.
Hahahaha, guess whose Premier this is?

ETA, thankful he apologised but get how it might just slip out, he may even be surprised it got picked up, he being just the little old Premier from little old WA, Aust. Wonder if Albanese (PM) counselled him. Definately deserves an appreciative 🤣 IMO.

Trump and Zelensky yet to comment on aid suspension

Trump and Zelensky point at each other as they speak in the Oval Office

News of the US decision to pause military aid for Ukraine was communicated to us overnight by a White House official.

Since, we've heard reaction from world leaders, politicians and experts, as well as Ukrainian civilians and soldiers on the frontline.

There are some notable absences, however.

US President Donald Trump is yet to comment. He's up and active on his Truth Social platform, but silent on Ukraine.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky shared details of his call with Germany's incoming chancellor, Friedrich Merz. But, again, no mention of the suspended aid.

Over in Moscow, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told the BBC's Steve Rosenberg that the pause was likely to be the "best" contribution to peace - but no word from President Putin.

Had a productive conversation with the leader of the CDU party, which won the Bundestag elections,
@_FriedrichMerz. We coordinated our positions and I appreciate his support.

Ukraine highly values Germany’s efforts to restore European security and protect lives in our country. We remember that Germany is the leader in supplying air defense systems to Ukraine and plays a crucial role in ensuring our financial stability.

Agreed with Friedrich Merz on further cooperation and contacts.

Pentagon denies halting cyber operations against Russia, Bloomberg reports.

The Record previously reported that U.S. Cyber Command was ordered to suspend offensive cyber and information operations against Russia.
