Yeah, I totally agree. You don’t take tremendous efforts to leave no DNA, and bring none home with you, yet leave an object behind that could reasonably contain your DNA.

He takes it off, begins stabbing, and gets caught up in the moment. I’d have killed to see his reaction whenever he realized he left it behind.
He likely heard voices downstairs on the main floor. And kept his knife out on the way down from MM's room. And after killing Xana and Ethan it was probably time to put the knife away and leave... he probably noticed the sheath was gone. JMO

I bet the guy did the math...and with the loud noises, screams, barking dogs, he decided not to look for it in the dark rooms and hallways and decided to leave.

Right but I was speculating what he was holding when DM observed him leaving - others were suggesting a sheath. That’s where I replied to @MassGuy ’s post.

Not debating with you, just making sure we’re both understanding the context of our posts. 👍
I didn't think you were! All good! Dateline aired their episdoe a week after the Amazon warrant was secured and a few days after the Grand Jury indicted him. So I believe that their tip came directly out of a source who had knowledge of the Grand Jury.

So, per the info given in the Franks we now know that the expansion of the years for the car model by Agent Imel happened on Nov 26.

That's (per PCA):
--1 day after MPD asked area law enforcement agencies to BOLO for white Hyundai Elantras in Nov 25
--3 days before WSU pulled a report on white Elantras on campus and came up with BK's and another officer saw BK's car in the lot both on Nov 29
--11 days before the public press release BOLO on 12/7 with photos of a 2011-2013
It's nice to have this cleared up. They expanded the years on the Elantra before they had BK's name and knew what he drove. As a juror, I wouldn't have a problem with the events as presented in the judge's order and would understand the back and forth described in the emails in identifying the car. As a juror, not so much if they got the name and then suddenly, with no explanation, changed the model years. But it's clear that's not what happened.

So you don’t feel he might have had other items with him?

I feel it’s likely - he wanted to be an officer, IIUC, so maybe he was into tactical gear & the like. Chest packs, SWAT type of small utility or even camping/hiking gear for quick access to any items to aid in committing the crime or removing traces or holding keepsakes. Not really a huge sticking point for guilt though. Will be interesting to see his shopping evidence, if it makes it to trial.

I believe the Dateline reporting that Kohberger received a knife from Amazon in "April of 2022". I think the Amazon warrants tell us the exact day he made the purchase...March 30, 2022. With 2 day shipping lining it up with Dateline reporting. MOO

I believe that there's a much smaller chance that he only bought a sheath for the knife on that date. There's a lot of confusion around if that USMC sheath was packaged with a knife for the subsequent years after it's release MOO. I haven't looked in awhile. If he only bought the sheath then the knife was likely already in his possession.

All MOO
This also fits in with the warrant for the click activity, details of items added or deleted from his cart, etc. The date ranges for those are 20-30 March 2022 and 1 November-6 December 2022. That supports he bought something around 30 March and some time in November to early December.

P. 29 of the Google/Apple/Amazon one

Two phone numbers
The AT&T warrants (shortly after his arrest) was for two phone numbers. I have a post breaking down the warrant explaining why I believed (my interpretation of the warrant, MOO) that BK purchased at least one of them shortly after arriving in Pullman or somewhere along the way PA to WA in the Summer of 2022. Maybe he was headed back upstairs and that's why he came so close to DM's door, then turned and left when he saw her.

Yes! Me too. I know (IMO) that the March 2022 Amazon warrants carry significance (the knife) I wonder if the second set of Amazon dates (that surround the murder date) are related to specific things that they know or if it was just a general check now that they identified an Amazon account they might have not known about previously.

I personally think BK got fully nude, bagged everything up, and put on another jumpsuit before he got in his car. Not sure I believe the guy was vacuuming inside or outside of the house (I tend to lean towards the few interpretations I've seen here) but honestly....WHO THE HECK KNOWS!!!!

Well, he'd need a replacement sheath since he lost his.;)

Yes! If Murphy the dog was barking for 30 straight minutes (IRC reading that) and the loud thump heard on the camera was actually the victims. You have to imagine he wanted to get out of that house but probably thought about going back up after being unsuccessful finding it downstairs.

Yes! I regularly use my Amazon shopping cart as a shopping list / wish list because the actual wish list is awful.

I'll fill it up with things I think I want or multiple versions of 1 thing. Then will typically delete most of it from the cart or use "Save for Later" before I checkout.

I think LE wants to know what was in the car along with the knife so they can try and show BK's state of mind. A black jumpsuit and gloves give context to the knife that a bright orange hunter's vest would not.

Yeah - dude is a strange one it seems, putting it mildly.

Oh, he could’ve done multiple things once he was done - even just threw on a zip up suit over everything. Possibilities are many in that regard IMO.

Exactly- a barking dog could mean an angry dog, and you don't know the size of the dog. It doesn't have to be a German Shepherd, even little dogs can be vicious if provoked. And I've had dogs all my life.

Walk through this with me. You viscously stab two girls upstairs and leave the sheath to the knife behind.
Means it was not attached to your belt. Where did you have it? Hand, pocket? Somewhere else?
Means you didn't try and put it back in the sheath while upstairs (why?) and went downstairs anyway.
Means you didn't pull it out of the sheath when you got downstairs and saw Xana and/or Ethan
Means you didn't try and put it back in the sheath after killing them, either because you forgot about it, or could not find it.
Means you might want to pick up something to carry it in, unless you brought a bag.
If you brought a bag, did the sheath fall out of the bag upstairs?
Means the bag might have been on the bed.
Might there have been trace evidence of some kind of bag that was consistent with one purchased on Amazon?

Random thoughts are my business.

Sheath was likely tucked into ankle or belt/waistline if not attached to belt. Me? I’d have one of those horizontal hard sheaths which attach to the rear of a belt with fasteners & hardware or a shoulder type holster for a knife.

Some of my own posts frighten me, as if I’ve given waaaaay too much thought as to how to potentially get away with a crime. 😞

So we can definitively put to rest any notion that law enforcement did any sort of reverse engineering with the year of the car.

Those emails show that in late November, the FBI expert told his colleagues they needed to expand the model year from 2011-2016, although he was more comfortable with 2011-2013.

The FBI didn't provide BK's name until December 19, which was over 3 weeks later. They had taken over from Othram on December, 10.

Another conspiracy theory bites the dust.

Yeah - seems to be the latest trend in defense tactics IMO. AT was a bit more respectful, for lack of better words, with how she went about it compared to other defense teams (🤡🤡🤡) from recent memory.
