I really feel sorry for his parents and sisters.
Can you imagine raising a miscreant like this when it’s your own son or brother who you have loved and supported?
That’s got to mess with all of them- thinking “where did I go wrong” when there likely was nothing they could have done to change this murderous freak.
Then thinking “how did this happen to us?”
How mortifying for them in every way.
And now they have to watch this circus that most likely will end up with him receiving the death penalty and experience the final loss of their own beloved miscreant.
No amount of counseling in the world can undo their shock, embarrassment and sense of guilt and loss.
It’s very sad.
All imho
Miscreant. That is the exact right word. And AT missed her opportunity to tell us we can't use it.
So fits him.
Dark triad. Can't help but to wonder if he was a bedwetter and whether all family pets and neighborhood animals survived him...
Every serial killed (which I believe him to be, just stopped from continuing) starts somewhere. Would there have been more? Does he have a hidden history somewhere?
From where did he get his confidence, that he could kill someone in the dark?
He had the opportunities, the support, the cognitive function to make other choices. Successful with women, doubtful. Successful with friends, unlikely. Suited for teaching, apparently not, but he could have forged a life for himself, the same way many people do, making the most of his skills while highlighting the least of his shortcomings, and staying on the nice side of the law. But instead this fantasy of his must have fermented in his mind -- going back HOW FAR we can wonder. Anger, injustice collector, hot prowler on steroids? Attempts to be a Marine or a police officer -- genuine interest or more of the same? Wanting to pervert the nature of those occupations? Purchased a death knife in the spring, presumably before knowing whom he'd kill with it.... worse, while he was being disciplined and corrected for his poor teacher-assisting, he was apparently shopping for his kill clothes.
Makes me shudder. They talk to him about how he relates to students, in particular female students, they instruct him on proper, neutral grading. How he must have been grinning on the inside, knowing he was going to "show them".
And how did his poor performance as a TA inform the timing of what he did? Pressure mounting?
Eventually I think we'll see a timeline. When he bought the knife, when he bought coveralls, when he started surveilling 1122 King Road, what else he bought and when.... and what each of the victims were doing around those same times, whether they crossed paths or didn't... and then, on the 12th into the 13th, as he circled the neighborhood, as they settled into bed, fatal convergence.
Bet he never felt so powerful.
Sickening.
