I have always wondered this. If he was inspired or encouraged by someone he'd made contact with? Mentored? It's well known that many dominant personalities (abusers and bullies) are hierarchical in their thinking and are able to admire the person they view to be 'above' them.
We can probably see this in BK's interactions, he was harsh and unforgiving on his juniors / peers at uni but maybe the reason his tutor (the one who recommended him) thought he was a great prospect is because he was hardworking and respectful for her.
Did he send that photo to someone? Will we be able to know that from his phone records?

There are online groups let by people who really enjoy control over human lives, in all forms. Some of them we often read about. Someone’s kid fell victim to one group. Instructions and all.
People like Rosa or Rupnow probably feel both desperate and angry. We don’t know where they posted; if they did, they marked themselves as vulnerable kids. Whether they kill others or themselves, there is control.
But with BK, who is an adult, the strategy would be different; an answer online, people befriend one another and discover a similar hobby. Maybe it was presented as “a long-distance pact”, “you do it in your town, and I’ll do it in mine”. “We’ll read about each other’s feats.”
IRL, the other person probably doesn’t plan to do anything, he enjoys control and even more control by proxy.
But BK’s question, “did you arrest anyone else?”, can’t get out of my mind. Perhaps he expected the “long-distance buddy” to be arrested and thought, maybe he snitched on me, this is how LE found me?
One can see many twists, and if BK were not caught, he could continue, too.
The issue is, I don’t believe that BK is going to plead guilty. If he does. we may know more, but with modern technology, some things are not recovered.
