Nothing substantiates BK's mother wanting her son to turn down a plea offer. She very well may want him to take a plea bargain to avoid death row. Not pleading guilty opens the door to likely conviction and death row.
( Sources close to Kohberger's family tell me that Kohberger's mother Maryann is encouraging her son to plead not guilty, in the face of mountains of evidence.)
No offense to you
but I see this article as gossip more than news. BK has a constitutional right to decide for himself how he wants to plead. No judge would allow a defendant's attorney to plead guilty for their client against their client's wishes.
Even if the judge allowed AT to plead guilty for him in open court while he stands silent - BK would still have to acknowledge, under oath, that this is what he wants.
If BK wishes to plead guilty then this will be done in open court under oath for the record in front of the families, including signing his guilty confessions right there.
It would be made clear that BK understands that he would be giving up his constitutional rights to a fair trial, and the chance to appeal his guilty verdicts. He could still appeal his sentence.
Then at sentencing he would have to listen to victim impact statements and he would be allowed to address the court and have his say if he wanted to.
