Abby & Libby - The Delphi Murders - Richard Allen Arrested - #199

my feet killed me all day yesterday. As an example.
An abusive spouse kills the love in a marriage.
Addicts kill their own spirit.
A cruel teacher kills the love of learning.

A person who has failed in such a miserable way as RA could say he killed his family - they are no longer intact, no longer doing well, no longer look forward to an enjoyable future as a family unit.

Part V - continuing observation analysis of the P's timeline and who was where at various times on 2/13/17. The below poses the scenario of RA=BG and I highlight MOO various hypothetical questions or what may have been in various parties' minds:

-- @ 1:22 PM - RA was in the car driving toward the trails/CPS parking lot, A&L still at home (BP & MP's home).
[Had LG posted something somewhere online indicating their plans coming up shortly which set RA into motion]
-- @ 1:38 PM - RA has parked at CPS and began his walk toward MHB. This IMO would be near the time he encounters the 4 Freedom Bridge girls according to the girls. He reports seeing 3 girls near the Freedom Bridge but doesn't provide a time. A&L are about to get into KG's car, yet still at home, to be driven over to the trails, arriving at 1:49
[does RA who's now already there know somehow that A&L will be arriving at the trails, particularly does he know yet they plan to cross the MHB?]
-- @ 1:52 PM - RA is nearly to the MHB from his longer walk from FB. BB is likely about 1 minute behind him on the same trail having begun her shorter walk from Mears around 1:48. A&L have been dropped off at Mears but haven't really started walking yet or are just moving extremely slowly with numerous stops.
[are A&L looking for someone they're meeting?]
-- @ 1:55 PM - BB arrives near the start of MHB to find RA already on the first platform. A&L have apparently only moved approx 1/16th of a mile now lagging well behind BB who started at roughly the same time as they did.
[why is RA on the bridge?, wouldn't his presence deter the girls from entering or are they expecting to meet someone?, is he anticipating they'll walk past him soon?]
-- @ 1:58 - BB is halfway back on her return trip when she intersects with A&L who were dropped off about 9 minutes earlier but have only traversed in 3 minutes the territory BB traversed in 9 minutes. We don't know if RA remains on the first platform. [he could've come back past the start point and hid [but why? what did he expect he was to hide from?] or he went all the way across to the abduction end [again why? did he know yet the girls planned to cross the whole thing?]
-- @ 2:04/2:05 - A&L approach near the MHB starting point and LG snaps photo(s?) toward the abduction end of MHB. RA doesn't seem to be in sight from the start point of MHB anywhere. It's not been reported where exactly BB goes during this time, only that she's back on the road leaving by 2:14 which is only 28 minutes from when she arrived at Mears.
-- @ 2:08/2:09 - A&L are partially across the bridge (halfway?). LG takes another photo back towards the MHB start with RA still not present [if hiding what would he have been waiting for if the girls are beyond the point of escape?]
-- @ 2:13 - AW, LG, & RA are all together at the abduction end of bridge. LG has video'd some footage of RA approaching but it's unsure how/where he entered the scene. [did he catch up with them going faster in the same direction as them, or did he come up from the private property abduction end, pass them, and circle back toward A&L?] [voice of apparent BG/RA does not seem out-of-breath]

I lean toward the latter idea that BG came up from the private property end and I base that on my own walking metrics - the MHB length is 1300 feet per MONON Railroad Historical-Technical Society which is 433 yards approximating one lap around a standard running track. As a similar-aged individual who walks a track regularly my "exercise/brisk-walk pace is like 4:10 per lap, my average pace is 4:25 per lap and my conversational pace gets up to around 5:00 per lap. In any event my "fast-walk pace" is just about 20% faster than my "slower-walk pace". Now if A&L took no more than 7.5 to 8 minutes to cross bridge, that is somewhat slow for 1/4 mile but not exceptionally slow considering the perilous bridge condition. I see no scenario where RA could've been going 2x the girls' pace without RA being in a running mode. MO that running on that rickety bridge was impossible for his age/weight and he'd have been short of breath by the time he caught them. Plus, without really anywhere for the girls to go, there was no need for RA to wait to enter the bridge till they were halfway across then hurriedly chase them down.

IMO I'm perplexed as to why RA would've felt he needed to beat the girls to a certain spot. For him to potentially cross the bridge alone, he almost had to have been tipped off somehow that they similarly planned to cross the entire bridge. It makes more sense IMO that he would've preferred to trail the girls if this were all planned... as opposed to him getting there first and perching himself on the first platform exposing any other random hikers (like BB) to viewing him.
RBBM

I think we can rule out that he hid. AW says something like 'is he behind me?'. She wouldn't have been able to say that if they hadn't seem him.

I think there was an encounter that was somehow creepy (what he said or didn't say, what he did or didn't do, how he looked or didn't look at them) and I think it occurred very near the mouth of the bridge.

I think he may have continued away from them, perhaps even to the very spot where BB had seen him on the platform. I think she saw him but I don't think he saw her, abd in the same way, from there, he could see AW and LG make their way past the first platform, or more accurately, Libby. I think Libby led. Out in front of Abby so she could film her. He only then had to wait until both girls cleared the platform and whatever length of bridge he could see. Wait a few minutes and then walk onto the bridge, quickly overtaking them, timed by him to be very close to the end. He knew what they didn't (yet), thst he has a gun, they couldn't get past him, they wouldn't run. Knew he'd be 100% persuasive with a gun trained on them.

That Libby managed to capture that in any capacity is truly outstanding.

No, I don't think that is possible because of the entire video/audio. Right after we see the image of BG, we hear the girls talking about wanting to get away, and then HIS voice and the girls say 'he's got a gun' ---

There is no time for some other mystery man to pop out of nowhere.

Besides that, RA never mentioned seeing another guy on the bridge. The other witnesses didnt talk about any other guy dressed just like RA.

I don't think there is much room for reasonable doubt. The video timeline is too tight. IMO
How do we know the video / audio was not cut or spliced in some way? I assume it is altered in some way as we have not seen / heard it in its entire full state. I imagine there is going to be far more video / photos from that day as I suspect the kids probably took quite a loot of footage as that is what many social media connected people do - footage and upload for likes and engagement etc (mooooooo). Its possible there is a lot we don't know. I'm of an open mind, patiently waiting to hear the State's case.... and the arguments against it.... MOOOOOO.

I'd be surprised actually if the jurors were permitted IG, whatsapp as those are social media sites... Is there actually any link etc that would tell us one way or the other what the jurors would be permitted to do on devices that are internet connected? MOOO.
I'm sure the court system has experience dealing with sequestered jurors, including how to handle use of devises, but I have to admit I'm disappointed at how little WSers think of jurors' integrity. They are given instructions and know the restrictions, yet it seems like WSers expect jury members to act like middle-schoolers trying to be naughty without getting caught.

These are adults who knowingly agreed to do their duty.

I didn't say they lack integrity? I am surprised if they'd be allowed social media sites due to information that may just randomly pop up as they scroll? I'm not suggesting they'd go actively looking to break the rules! Mooo.

They know what the video shows - they may not know if that man was already on the other end of the bridge, or if he followed them entirely across - maybe they have his entire walk across that bridge for all we know... guess we'll know soon.

Has anyone ever asked and answered:

"Who, after committing a murder, would risk being seen in broad daylight walking along a public road all muddy and possibly bloody?!"

A killer with experience wouldn't really make that mistake as it would mean too much exposure and risk involved, but if it was someone that happened across an opportunity by chance...

I hope this trial answers a lot of questions.

Remembering RA's interview with Holeman/2022:

“Jerry Holeman: ‘I don’t think you’re a bad person.’

“Rick: ‘What kind of good person kills two people?’

“Rick Allen: ‘You’re gonna pay for what you’ve done to my wife. You want to (expletive) with me, (expletive) with me but you leave my wife out of this. (Expletive). Leave me out of this.

...So RA clearly knows the damage that has been done to his wife and family because of the murders of two young girls. And Holeman hasn't struck RA's wife or engaged in any angry outbursts with RA's wife. RA clearly recognizes you can seriously hurt someone in ways that wouldn't seem "literal," (i.e., physical).
(snipped)

The claims that RA stated he killed his family come from a May 2, 2023 report of Dr. Wala.

According to Dr. Wala's testimony she stated that on May 2, 2023, RA had a lot to say that day.

He wanted to know why he shouldn't kill himself.
Other inmates were allegedly trying to get him to kill himself. He asked Dr. Wala if he should kill himself.
This is when he stated, I've killed my family. I've killed my best friends but I won't kill myself because I'm too much of a coward.
(Not verbatim)

(snipped)
So to me, this shows the situation taking a natural progression. When RA was still in a position to blame LE, he did so. But once that option became too problematic, imo he blamed the person he knows is really to blame, and that's himself.

JMO, it's figurative. And it really won't help the D.

Just reading through and following along, debating the bits we know or think we know with one another here sure makes me think about what jurors may go through as they deliberate and come to their verdict! Such an interesting discussion but such a horrible, sad, heartbreaking crime! : (

FWIW, the only time the case pops up on my screen is when I'm here on WS. Perhaps as locals, they run a greater risk, idk. And I don't think they will take that risk and will be willing to stay away from potential pitfalls. If something "pops up," my guess is they would close the screen and not read whatever it is.

If someone accidentally breaks the rules, I'm assuming they would alert the court. If someone purposely breaks the rules, I think they will be discovered and given the boot.

Ok the coat ok, she told LE he owned one the same color and make. The car, ok who was driving it that day. Guns, ok. Bullet in described as keepsake box, maybe ok. Do you think they'll ask her whereabouts on Feb 13, 2017? <modsnip: No source to comment> Do you think they'll ask her about the confession phone calls and play them while she's on the stand?

Yes about her whereabouts. No about the phone calls. <modsnip: Quoted post was modsnipped>

As always, JMO.

I agree. I hope I get to be on a jury someday. I have never been called for jury duty and the clock is ticking.... :)

Just thought of something. We have a horrible tragedy in my family tree. I'm a couple of generations after it, yet it haunted me as a child and still does. In a way, that act SO LONG AGO, "killed" our family in the sense it caused pain for generations and we sure have no love for the ancestor who caused the pain. Perhaps alone behind bars, RA spent time thinking about similar ramifications in his family because of what he did. Even future grandchildren of his will be affected and his name might be held in disdain down the line.

He could describe that as "killing" his family. (Note to the family - you are not killed and your strength will inspire descendants. As a descendant, I know that to be true.)

Off topic but I thought I saw someone here say the jurors were staying in Lafayette or being transported to Lafayette/ did I misread? I can’t find it again
