Abby & Libby - The Delphi Murders - Richard Allen Arrested - #205

On Day 9 of testimony, Stacy Bozinovski, an Indiana State Police forensic scientist, took the stand. Bozinovski spent the first part of testimony outlining her qualifications and giving the jury a crash court in DNA collection and analysis.

Bozinovski worked on DNA evidence in the Delphi case and did the report in March 2017. It included an analysis of the rape kits administered on both girls.

Bozinovski said the kits were tested and no semen was detected. Other swabs detected the possible presence of male DNA. The amount was insufficient, however, and Bozinovski didn’t do a confirmatory test because she wanted to make the most of the sample.

No male DNA was present on vaginal cervical swaps, she told the court. She did find male DNA in genital swaps and fingernails but said that was not necessarily an unusual result. It could have come from shared clothing and yielded very little DNA.

There was no DNA evidence showing the girls were sexually assaulted.

Bozinovski said hair found in Abby Williams’ hand—a key point the defense brought up in opening statements—appeared to be from one of Libby German’s family members. Testing performed in 2024—just earlier this month—showed the hair came from Kelsi German Siebert, Libby’s sister.

It was a 1 in 8 trillion match, Bozinovski told the court.

She [Bozinovski] soon turned to the cartridge found at the murder scene. The state’s firearms expert, Melissa Oberg, said she turned the cartridge over for DNA and fingerprint analysis before gathering the ballistics data.

Bozinovski said she attempted to collect skin cells from the cartridge. She also displayed the cartridge to the jury for the first time. She said it was difficult to get DNA from cartridges because of their small size. The DNA found on the cartridge was insufficient for further analysis.

She added that the State Police Crime Lab no longer tested cartridges because of the difficulty in capturing results.

Other attempts to glean DNA from items recovered from the murder scene found most of the material came from one or both of the girls. Some hair found on one of the girls’ shoes was “not consistent with human hair.”

Nothing Bozinovski said during her testimony tied DNA evidence to Allen or any other individual.

And what about the scarf at the crime scene?

Wouldn't it be something if KA gets on the stand and testifies that is actually hers?

That is totally speculation on my part but I wouldn't be surprised if they have something big like that.
KA would be very very shortsighted to admit that in court. If they cant prove perjury or rather if they cant prove that it is or is not her scarf she can say whatever she wants. I put nothing past anyone.

Just imagining the jurors thinking back to the first mention of this in the opening statements and wondering what is on their minds as they hear this info.
I hope they are learning who the DT is and what to and what not to expect from them. I think the jurors are smart enough to see what DT meant to insinuate about the hair and other things and the fact that they were being deceptive. All those insinuations and misstatements will add up to a lack of trust in anything DT has to say. big fat cow MOO

Maybe one day technology will progress enough that the miniscule traces will be testable, but yeah..
As it stands that's all exactly as I expected.

Let's move on to next evidence, but glad they had the chance to cover DNA.

Witness outlined her qualifications and gave the jury a crash court in DNA collection and analysis. Results - rape kits (no semen), KG’s hair on Abby’s hand (1 in a trillion match), cartridge (insufficient DNA).

Gloves.

Gloves explain that.

I agree. Attempting to deceive does not equate to refuting of evidence.

She is testifying for the State. Also when LE asked her about items in the home she readily admitted he had a gun and knives and a Cartthart jacket. LE could have shown her a photograph of a scarf and asked if she recognized it without her knowing where it came from. Just a thought.

Bring forward this from the trial:

"The FBI’s Evidence Response Team (ERT) collected the evidence found in Deer Creek, Olehy said. The items were being watched by the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team.

The ERT collected several items of clothing believed to belong to the girls. Those items include a grey zip-up hoodie that Abby borrowed from Kelsi (German) Siebert, Libby’s sister, a tie-dyed t-shirt that Libby was wearing in a photo taken of her and Abby in Kelsi’s car on their way to the trails on Feb. 13, 2017, a black girls’ cami, size 28 girls jeans found inside out, a pink no-show sock, a dark blue or black no-show sock, a left Nike shoe, and a white bandana or handkerchief. The grey hoodie was completely submerged in the water."

I always remind myself that the final scene isn't necessarily how it was planned to end.

The captor had time afterwards to manipulate the scene as he saw fit. Dragging, positioning, posing. Concealing with branches. Removing what only he would know from the crim scene.

We don't know what he intended to do or how he intended it to end. By gun, by blade.

I happen to think he overestimated his power and underestimated theirs, as limited as it was, and like I said upthread, I think he lost control and then he lost all control, and even he must have felt a bit of shock over the chaos of the previous minutes.

Disappointed there wasn't a DNA hit, but it was outdoors, his head was covered, he may have kept his mouth masked, and IMO he never did what he abducted them for. Thwarted.

Digital forensics in a lot of ways is the new DNA so I'm eager to hear the CAST report, and whether that non-human hair was tested and what the results might show.

The most damning testimony so far (paired with LG's recording) is the defendant's own admissions (and that's before his confessions!). He put himself on the bridge.

If you look at that still of BG he has his hands in his pockets, but you can see just a little bit of light area from his sleeve to his pockets. Is this his wrists?

Did he have latex gloves on when he took his hands out of his pockets and held the gun at the girls? Did they see this?
