Oh I don't like it when a child with autism goes missing near water Really hope this lad is found safe somewhere, but it's not looking good

It sounds very odd that 7 went for a walk and 6 came back. How old is the oldest? I know that info isn't released, but if the oldest was 8, it's understandable. If the oldest is 16, it's odd. Police are looking at all possibilities at this time.

Yeah but even an 8 year old is usually taught to keep an eye on the child with extra needs. Kind of a natural process in the family.

To directly answer your question, it appears it wasn’t noticed he was missing until he didn’t return with the others but nothing more than this has been released -

Alberta RCMP members are continuing to search for a five-year-old boy who went missing in the Crowsnest Pass area over the weekend.

Officials say Macdougall was camping in the area with his family.

He went for a walk with six of his siblings a short distance from their campsite but became separated from the group.

“Darius was not among the ones that returned,” said Sgt. Mark Amatto, detachment commander of Crowsnest Pass RCMP, in a Monday news conference. “They went back to the site, searched for a good time before calling 911 and search and rescue was deployed immediately.”

I wonder if they split into two groups, and each group thought Darius was with the others? Poor kids, I hope they don't blame themselves

This is likely the summary of the update. Not anything really new. It’s optimistically believed that Darius may still be alive so the search is still in high gear plus the search area has been expanded, as it’s likely unknown exactly what area he became separated from his siblings. Searchers are confident nothing was missed in water, searched a second and even a third time.

On the topic of how Darius became separated, I noticed this reported in Lethbridge Now whose reports have quite detailed, more than others. Did he just go off on his own, adamantly refusing to go back to the campground with the others because he wanted to go somewhere else? Instead my imagination had him lagging behind, maybe taking his time while looking around, not keeping up with the group until he was nowhere to be seen. It doesn’t make any difference, a child going missing is equally frightening either way, just curious about the circumstances.
