Oh I don't like it when a child with autism goes missing near water 😞 Really hope this lad is found safe somewhere, but it's not looking good

It sounds very odd that 7 went for a walk and 6 came back. How old is the oldest? I know that info isn't released, but if the oldest was 8, it's understandable. If the oldest is 16, it's odd. Police are looking at all possibilities at this time.

Yeah but even an 8 year old is usually taught to keep an eye on the child with extra needs. Kind of a natural process in the family.

I agree something seems weird, hopefully it’s just the reporting

Very curious about the 6 siblings.

To directly answer your question, it appears it wasn’t noticed he was missing until he didn’t return with the others but nothing more than this has been released -

Officials say Macdougall was camping in the area with his family.

He went for a walk with six of his siblings a short distance from their campsite but became separated from the group.

“Darius was not among the ones that returned,” said Sgt. Mark Amatto, detachment commander of Crowsnest Pass RCMP, in a Monday news conference. “They went back to the site, searched for a good time before calling 911 and search and rescue was deployed immediately.”
I wonder if they split into two groups, and each group thought Darius was with the others? Poor kids, I hope they don't blame themselves

Jeez this livestream quality is horrible. It's a video call. CTV is the only place I can find carrying it (CBC and Global aren't) and they aren't transcribing.

This is likely the summary of the update. Not anything really new. It’s optimistically believed that Darius may still be alive so the search is still in high gear plus the search area has been expanded, as it’s likely unknown exactly what area he became separated from his siblings. Searchers are confident nothing was missed in water, searched a second and even a third time.

The article says
- last seen when he went for a walk with 6 family members
..none of whom were adults fwiw
- today search teams expanded into new areas...
- also again covered some previous search areas
- current search radius = 3kms from the campsite & it will gradually widen to 6.6 kms

On the topic of how Darius became separated, I noticed this reported in Lethbridge Now whose reports have quite detailed, more than others. Did he just go off on his own, adamantly refusing to go back to the campground with the others because he wanted to go somewhere else? Instead my imagination had him lagging behind, maybe taking his time while looking around, not keeping up with the group until he was nowhere to be seen. It doesn’t make any difference, a child going missing is equally frightening either way, just curious about the circumstances.

He was last seen around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, when he was with six family members walking near Island Lake Campground, the five-year-old is alleged to have gone off on his own.

I'm going to join this thread, just breaks my heart. I keep checking for updates.

Not sure if mentioned already, military may assist in this search. Thinking they might have more high-tech equipment and understand the terrain better.

Rescuers in southern Alberta are looking at bringing in reinforcements from the military in their search for a missing five-year-old boy who vanished Sunday from a campground.

Adam Kennedy from Alberta Search and Rescue said talks with the Armed Forces and other groups have focused on which resources would benefit efforts to find the boy.

"Our emergency co-ordination centre out of Leduc is in constant consultation with all resources that might be able to provide support to the searc

Also from article above, I hope they searched every nook and cranny and around that bible camp where searchers are sleeping.

You just never know with little kids and where they might hide, even right under the noses of adults! Wishful thinking on my part of course...

"Searchers, some called in from out of province, have been on rotating shifts and sleeping at a nearby Bible camp. Several declined to talk to reporters Wednesday".

I was hoping he would have been found yesterday, it's not looking good the longer the search goes on imo.

I had a similar scenario with him lagging behind, but that doesn't sound like what's happened now 🤔

That is a short article with not much to go on, but it's worth the read, imo. With the last persons seeing DM being children, the difficulties for LE are delicate.

I hope today is the day to find him.

Another update today @2:30pm MT but let’s not get our hopes up, it doesn't seem as if he’s been found. That’s just over 2 hours from now.

Mounties will be providing an update Thursday on the search for six-year-old Darius Macdougall.

The boy — who RCMP had previously said was five but now say is six — remains missing after becoming lost in the southern Alberta wilderness on Sunday morning….
…..Adam Kennedy from the Search and Rescue Association of Alberta said Wednesday the current search radius is three kilometres in all directions from the campsite, and is gradually being pushed out to 6.6 kilometres.
