From that release:
"Investigators remain committed to exploring all possibilities surrounding the children’s disappearance"

Earlier they'd stated there wasn't any evidence of abduction (or words to that affect) so this is certainly interesting that they're now saying all possibilities. I'm not so sure I believe they were abducted but stranger things have happened. Also confirming the kids were seen in public the very afternoon prior to them going missing, narrows down the timeline considerably.

It's good to have a bit more confirmed information to go on, meaning both children were seen on May 1st.
I wonder where in public they were seen - since they were sick
Jack wasn't sick was he?
Lilly was said to have a "cough" which is not necessarily so sick that she couldn't have been outside in the yard or out in the car somewhere with her mother or step-father.

Correct, it's never been stated that Jack was sick. Only that Lilly had a cough.

If Lily was ill enough to miss school Thursday and had a lingering cough which was the reason for her to still be out (along with her presumably healthy lil brother) on Friday the 2nd, I still have to ask why they were out and about in public. Just MOO. And maybe it's just me being nitpicky. but when my kids were so ill they were kept home from school they weren't out and about, they were at home abed or involved in quiet activities at home.

I am questioning just how sick Lily was. I wonder if she was sick at all or if, for some reason, it was just easier to keep the kids home from school because of other things going on in the household, like perhaps their younger sister "M" was ill, or their mom, something that meant the household weren't getting good sleep.

The confirmation of their whereabouts on that day is important because police were previously told six-year-old Lilly Sullivan and four-year-old Jack Sullivan were at school on April 29 and were kept home in rural Lansdowne Station, N.S., until they went missing on May 2.

In particular, investigators are asking for dashcam footage or any other video from along Gairloch Road — where the family’s home is located — recorded between noon on April 28 and noon of May 2.

Since Wednesday was a school holiday, it seems like it would be common to go ahead and take the next two days off if, for example, a vacation was planned. That would give 5 days off together (W, T, F, S, and Sunday) while the kids would only miss 2 days of school. I don't know why you wouldn't just tell the school you were going on vacation though.

There was a person who said police requested video from her store ( it was reported as a rumour b/c it wasn't confirmed by L/E) . Maybe there is some truth to that, especially if they have a debit purchase to corroborate. They may have been seen getting back into their vehicle and drivng towards home, hence looking for footage from when they were no longer able to be tracked by cameras.

Is it still considered OK to take children off school to go on vacation? I remember back in the 70's it was sort-of OK in elementary. Saying the children were sick would be one way to get round it.

I don't suppose there is any suggestion that this family was on vacation at the time? Children seen with a family mbr on the Thursday (could have been on vacation somewhere else in Nova Scotia I suppose) but mother and step-father at home with baby on Friday morning?

So this release says they were seen in public afternoon Thursday May 1 with family. They are asking for dashcam or video footage for April 27-May 2 though which is still an extended amount of time?

It sure seems the RCMP might be interested in anybody driving around as if attempting to determine the children’s routine or watching for an opportunity to pick them up. If so, this would mean they were targeted by someone with some kind of connection to Lilly and Jack or the family. I do wonder if the children went to the road that Friday morning to wait for a school bus after it had already passed by.
Purely my speculation….and yes I know the RCMP early on stated there was no evidence of an abduction but maybe now they’re looking for some?

It would be interesting to know how long the police have had the information that the children were seen in public on the afternoon of the 1st of May. Is it something recently discovered by someone sending in footage or for some reason or other the police did not want this in the public domain.

By the RCMP knowing more specifics than the information shared with the public can be an easy means of scrutinizing the value of tips. For example, this would make this sort of tip worthless — tipster heard via the grapevine that deaths occurred during a big party on Apr 30 when children overdosed by accidentally consuming illegal drugs.

They could have just gone to the grocery store for supplies - cough syrup, food, pullups, etc. The kids didn't seem too sick if they were playing outside anyways.
Or to the doctor's office or clinic

“Based on the details we’ve gathered so far, we’ve confirmed that Lilly and Jack were observed in public with family members on the afternoon of May 1,” says Cpl. Sandy Matharu, Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit.

perhaps the children were seen by someone on Thursday, May 1st, by someone(s) who visited the family on the property. With Lily having been sick and held home from school, along with her brother, I can't imagine they were off the property running errands or out making visits with family so it would stand to reason, to me, that the witness(es) who saw them did so on the property. JMO

The statement from RCMP doesn't specify who or how many who's saw the children with their family on Thursday, but if it were another more extended family member who saw them I would think they might say THAT, so I am assuming the witness(es) is someone NOT within the family.

What confuses me is the use of the words "in public" does that mean the kids were witnessed off of the property with their family on Thursday? I can't see keeping your child home ill and then dragging them round on errands. Particularly when it has been reported that DM is only getting approximately one day of work per week, one parent could be at home with sick child and sibling while the other ran any necessary errands JMO. Especially if Lily was still sick on Friday, enough to be kept home from school another day.

They were seen "in public", so that would be outside of the home. Lilly was described earlier as having a cold, so possibly too sick for school because of sniffles or a cough, but not too sick to be out for a grocery run or some such public activity.

Since Covid, schools don't want to see kids if they have a cough or sniffles. So a child might be too sick for school, but not too sick for other normal, routine activities outside the home.

you may be correct. I may be correct. Only time will tell. Until then, all we've got is our opinions and speculations.

Yes, indeed. And I agree that it's very possible that the baby was sick and had a rough night, and that's why the baby and parents were still trying to sleep at 10:00 on a school morning.

I had a thought this morning going out to the bus stop with my 8 year old. Lily grabbing her backpack did made me wonder if she thought they were going to school that day. Not sure if either of them can tell time or knows what time the bus comes?… but it crossed my mind, did the parents usually walk them out to the bus stop and wait with them, I wonder? Or did the two children walk out by themselves when it was time for the bus? If the latter, I could see abduction totally being possible Friday morning. If the children thought they should get out there and go to school like usual and were just standing by the side of the road waiting around a while…

At 4 and 6, they're also really young. My opinion only, but as a parent I made that sort of call in the past, especially when kids were younger. Could they have gone to school and made it through the day? Were they technically "recovered enough"? Probably. Would they have been more comfortable with a lowkey day, more rest, not having to sit at a desk, extra fluids, bathroom without asking, etc? Absolutely.

All IMHO
I’m not speculating that these kids or one of them is on the autism spectrum though previous posts have mentioned this possibility and their mom possibly confirming her belief that one or both are.

Irregardless, only a 1% chance of abduction statistically - likely less than that in this area of NS.

I don’t think these kids were harmed by mom or stepdad.

I’m still maintaining that these kids wandered off tragically.

What sets this apart is the fact that it was two siblings were together.

This is such a heartbreaking case.
Frustrating and extremely sad as they very likely may never be found.
